Since pinned posts are all the rage and something we can finally do on tumblr now... This is a good enough excuse to organize all my writing into a masterpost for easier access. Looking back at this shitpost and glancing through my AQ screenshots again.... gotta love when Sumeru writers agree with my old fic thoughts as well lmfao

I rewatched some parts of the AQ again and I don’t know how to express how this conversation sounded 10x funnier in CN towards the end lmfaoo

When Kaveh frets about a potential thief breaking into their house while they're away and says "What if there's a thief who shares my aesthetic taste (in paintings) ?!", what Alhaitham replies in CN is more like "Then you can just treat him to a cup of that expensive (bourgeois)* wine of yours" just to sass Kaveh back about using the wine as rent payment hhjfkfkdgjkss Alhaitham continues to be the funniest man in Teyvat, he's such an infuriating brat ((positive, derogatory)) I love him XD *okay, Alhaitham didn't literally say "bourgeois" of course, but the emphasis is that both the wine and the painting Kaveh bought were very expensive, and speaks of his refined and sophisticated tastes lol

I usually play the quests with JP dub first since I love the seiyuu voices, and also because playing in CN while reading EN subtitles can be too distracting/hard for me to focus since my bilingual brain tries to process both at the same time. But I always enjoy rewatching everything again in CN because I love the flavour of Kavetham with their original voice-acting (honestly my favourite characterisations beside JP dub).... The way both of them have zero qualms just gossiping about the Pillars when they're right there before devolving into bickering again LOL. I think it's interesting (amusing) how Kaveh is almost always the one who seeks out Alhaitham's presence and opinions first (as Alhaitham rightfully points out in another scene later on). From his hushed, but still-friendly (conspiratorial, even) tone at the beginning here, it's obvious that Kaveh wanted a conversation with Alhaitham and probably expected to exchange a moment of shared amusement with Alhaitham then; that Alhaitham would at least agree with his assessment about the Goat King's disposition. But when Alhaitham offers a differing opinion, Kaveh jumps to the worst assumption (as he's still prone to do, it seems) that Alhaitham is using this moment to criticise his personality, even though I feel like Alhaitham wasn't actually doing so?? Lol. But then, Alhaitham being Alhaitham, also didn't try to convince Kaveh further and somewhat did end up pointing out one of Kaveh's flaws—projecting on Alhaitham by making everything he says about himself (Kaveh).... which then really ticks Kaveh off to almost lose his cool completely hhjdkjksssj why are they always like this, stop iiiitt lmaooo

And that sudden hand-flick.... paisen, I know you like being touchy with him, but you can be really catty and mean to your kouhai sometimes....

Still really loving how Alhaitham simply lets Kaveh lean all the way into his personal space like that. He hardly even flinched when Kaveh batted at his shoulder too, as though he's already too used to this odd show of skinship between them lol.

Still can't believe Thoth officiated the Kavetham arranged marriage renewal rites in King Deshret's Mausoleum. "Arranged marriage" whAT?? I mean, Nahida un-divorced them and made them do it to save Sumeru and I'm not even half-exaggerating about that part:

I love Sumeru LOL.

But okay, jokes aside, I really love how this whole section was written, with all its (not-so-hidden lol) subtext and ambiguity. Especially feeling unhinged over Thoth's earlier speech about the enduring friendship, love and affection between Deshret, Nabu Malikata and Rukkhadevata (now only remembered as Nahida, after Rukkhadevata's existence was erased and rewritten) and how it parallels the way Kaveh and Alhaitham's own complicated friendship changed over the years; how they're still in the process of figuring it out and mending old wounds because despite all the hurt and pain of their fallout, a lingering emotional connection still persists between them, and the feelings of deep concern and affection remain regardless.

And I absolutely adore Thoth's line about finding "wisdom between in the tangible and intangible, to convey the incommunicable through the simplest of mediums", and all while having Kaveh and Alhaitham work together again to decode and re-code Deshret's ancient runes and architectural technology. The subject of the very same collaborative research they had left unfinished and incomplete in the past due to their clash of perspectives and (seemingly) irreconcilable differences—now given a second life to continue, and for them to metaphorically pick up and fix the torn pieces of their thesis together once more now that they've had time away to grow and mature individually. To evolve from "Our views are aligned, and they are complete" to embrace a newer, and perhaps more all-encompassing perspective together in their pursuit towards wisdom and enlightenment: "Our views are contradictory, but it is through contradiction that more speculation and philosophy may be born."

It's all just so poetic, like their secret third thing hhhhjfjdks.

I wasn't expecting Gilgamesh to actually be killed off so soon prefacing this by saying I know almost nothing about the Fate series while watching FSF lol but I adore this role reversal. And I suppose that's what happens when you've scorned a goddess' proposal in your past life roflll.

Still breaks me a little inside though, to see how Tiné still tried so hard to heal Gil's wounds even though he'd already fallen in battle, and how she seems to blame herself and was prepared for Enkidu's rebuke for failing as Gil's Master .... :')

"Gil and I spent irreplacable days together. An eternal farewell and the sadness that comes with it are already done and over it. If I were the one laying there, Gil would not be shedding tears. Nor would I want such a thing."

*thinks again about the Epic of Gilgamesh and the many, many verses of Gilgamesh weeping, crying his eyes out and ripping his clothes, his hair off when Enkidu died* :__) I kind of really dig this interpretation of Enkidu remaining calm and much more accepting of their friend's death in contrast to Gilgamesh's outward show of grief and mourning in the original epic truly foils/mirrors of each other lol. Granted, in this universe, this isn't their first reincarnation in the Holy Grail Wars (I'm assuming). And as Enkidu said, they've both already long made peace with that eternal farewell and sadness that always comes thereafter at the end.

I really love the Higuruma moments in episodes 8 and 9 (truly Poetic Cinema) but I'm still wheezing at the mood whiplash and contrast between Yuuji and Megumi’s fights hhjfjdkdksjsj. But Takaba’s also one of my favourite characters in the Culling Games arc so lmfaoooo

Cross-posting my thoughts from priv twatter over here too. I'm not only wHeezing at how this man is dead set on making sure that Paimon is on her way to graduating as a proper scholar (she is his protégé to be the future Grand Sage lmao), but also at how the tone of his letter here reminds me way too much of the official correspondence emails I too write for work LOL. “I am writing to you in my capacity as—” Sumeru pLS STOP GIVING ME RL WORK EMOTIONAL WHIPLASH CHALLENGE HHJSJSJSGHS Also, “I’m enclosing here the (…materials…) Paimon’s Vahumana advisor would like her to read…” the pain of the supporting staff having to contact and disseminate academic information to the student on the faculty’s behalf instead of the faculty doing it themselves uGLY LAUGHS….. but since it’s Paimon, Alhaitham likely offered to send her the information himself anyway (he already took the initiative to register her for enrolment to the Akademiya and even sent that application for her to be a Driyosh loool). If it were some other stranger or anyone else, he would probably refuse and say it's not in his job description as the Scribe to do this XD

Still, this letter is so fucking cute... The way Alhaitham thinks paving the way for Paimon to eventually become a full-fledged Driyosh would benefit her the most because it exposes her to a wealth of knowledge/skills and suits her adventuring lifestyle with the Traveller. He is truly his grandmother’s child.

I'm just so endeared by this continuity (in the JP & CN version of the first image, he specifically only states that Paimon should register for access to the House of Daena's book collections—he never mentioned the Traveller at all, so I assume he either doesn't think we/Traveller qualify or he simply doesn't care lmfao), how it always amuses me and make me smile, heh. I only wish they had more of this interaction together on-screen properly, instead of it being mostly off-screen and somewhat hidden if you don’t know where to look. But well, I can’t expect too much from hoyo-style writing l o l.

Also still crying at the fact that since he has completed levelling her up by sending all those Talents books for the past 3 years, he’s now gifting her with EXP mats afgjfkgfjjd

Something something about the way Alhaitham quietly, subtly shows compassion and affection for people and his friends through action that can be seemingly roundabout and random at first, but is actually meticulously planned and done with so much care and thoughtfulness.... :")

And on a final GARBAGE-delusion note: Since Alhaitham actually refers to the Traveller as Paimon’s family now (because they’re close and have always been together), that means he too sees and accepts Kaveh and Mehrak as his own chosen family because they’re almost always together and standing beside each other now, yes? yES. hnnmm the Feels in my kokoro............
