The Breaking Point
Woah look at this another story
pt 1/?
Everyone has a breaking point, especially those who seem like they don’t
Word Count: 1310
TW: Intrusive thoughts
Boleyn let out a frustrated scream as she swept the papers of the desk in the garage
Why can’t I do this? It should be simple for me to figure out. Why is this so hard?
Thoughts swarmed though her head as she took deep breaths and slowly gathered the papers that were strewn about the floor “I can do this. It was just one mistake” she reminded herself
“No!” She said suddenly “You’re smarter than this, Boleyn. Mistakes are failures and you aren’t a failure!”
She sat down in the chair at the desk she was working at and forced herself to take deep breaths “This is okay. I can figure this out” she put her head down, closing her eyes and continued breathing steadily. She smiled slightly as the thoughts disappeared though sadly the peace was only temporary. The thoughts suddenly came back with twice as much velocity as she replayed the scene from earlier. She yelled out again as she shot up, flipping the desk as she went and knocking the chair over
“They’ll like you. People have always liked you. You just need to push harder. Examine every element. Eliminate the variables of yourself that they don’t like and everything will be fine. Push harder, be smarter.”
Many Days Earlier..
She had just finished explaining (lecturing more like) fire safety to Kitty. After, she went back to the room she shared with her counterpart, Anne
As she walked into the room she noticed Anne sitting on the part of the roof her window was connected to the roof, watching the sunset and decided to join her
Boleyn hoisted herself out and sat next to her “Do you know how sunset’s work?”
“Nope.” Anne replied with a sigh, knowing Boleyn was going to give some long explanation that made her sound like a science textbook
“Well, because the sun is low on the horizon, sunlight passes through more air at sunset and sunrise than during the day, when the sun is higher in the sky. More atmosphere means more molecules to scatter the violet and blue light away from your eyes. If the path is long enough, all of the blue and violet light scatters out of your line of sight. The other colors continue on their way to your eyes. This is why sunsets are often yellow, orange, and red.”
“That’s-” Anne started but got cut off
“And because red has the longest wavelength of any visible light, the sun is red when it’s on the horizon, where its extremely long path through the atmosphere blocks all other colors.”
“Fascinating” Anne said with a tight smile before climbing back through her window “I just wanted to watch the sunset” she mumbled under her breath “Is that too much to ask?”
Over the next few days Boleyn was starting to drive everyone insane. Anytime someone said something remotely similar to a question she would immediately jump in even if the words weren’t directed at her then at the end of the day she would go to the garage for a varying amount of time and sometimes the others could hear banging or the sound of items falling along with the occasional phrase yelled in french. Anne obviously understood the words and it obviously bothered her but she refused to translate
It was at such a time as these when everyone was downstairs in the living room with the exception of Boleyn who was in the garage again
“Is this normal behavior for her?” Jane asked “If you’re talking about her being the most annoying version of siri to ever exist than yes, It’s very normal” Howard responded without looking up from her phone
Cleves rolled her eyes “She’s always been eager to show off her wit and explain things but I don’t think she’s ever done the garage thing”
“Well it’s getting annoying to be one upped every time I say something” Cathy crossed her arms
“There’s a very easy way to make this whole thing go away” Howard said
Seymour flicked her lighter on lazily “Burn down the garage”
“Well I was suggesting murder but-”
“No to both of you” Aragon stepped in, giving them both a stern look
“Whatever. I think we can all agree the other divorced bitch needs to shut the hell up once in a while.” Howard crossed her arms
“She’s just doing what she needs to cope” Parr said quietly, shifting uncomfortably when everyone looked at her
“Go on” Jane said gently
“She wants people to like her and she thinks the only way that will happen if she shows off how smart she is”
“The irony is that she’s smart but she believes such a stupid plan” Seymour scoffed
“Well I think Parr is wrong. No one’s so idiotic that they would try something like that” Howard rolled her eyes
“People deal with things in different ways” Cathy said “Like with grief-”
She was cut off by Boleyn walking in “There are five stages of grief. Denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. These stages were determined by Swiss-American psychiatrist named Elizabeth Kübler-Ross. She wrote a book on it I should get you all a copy it’s very fascinating, anyways-”
“Thanks, Boleyn, we got it” Cathy said in an annoyed tone
“Good.” Boleyn said “I’m always open to questions”
“Yeah but our schedules aren’t always open enough to hear the answers you give” Howard mumbled under her breath
Seymour and Cathy caught it and they both laughed
Boleyn felt her face warm with embarrassment, knowing they were laughing at her “Fine! Get yourselves killed by using water on an electrical fire as you were going to yesterday. Or stick a fork in the damn toaster while it’s plugged in. You’re all dumbasses and cretins I don’t know why I try to help you all. You’ll all get yourselves killed either by Anne and Seymours antics or results of petty arguments.” she swept towards the stairs “And goodnight Lady Catalina, you’re the only one I trust not to get herself killed.” she said the last statement in an angry tone as she marched upstairs and slammed the door to Anne’s room shut
Everyone was quiet for a few moments before Anne cleared her throat “It seems I’ll be sleeping on the couch tonight”
And that brought her to now. She was pacing around in the garage, occasionally reciting facts to herself, just to remind herself she was right
“Work harder, eliminate the variables. Don’t get upset again, they didn’t like that. Don’t let your emotions control you. You’re nothing with them holding you back”
You’re nothing anyways
“That’s not true”
You’re in denial.
“I’m not. I’m a people person. People like me. There's no reason for them not to. I’m smart and I can join any conversation or topic of interest due to that”
They think you’re annoying
“They thank me every time”
It’s all just sympathy
“N-No.” Boleyn started compulsively organizing the garage, hoping if she did the thoughts would go away but they didn’t if anything trying to ignore them made it worse
You’re a failure. You’re nothing. You’re just a lonely bitch who thinks she’s better than everyone. You’re too stuck up to see past your own ego. They don’t want your facts. They don’t want you. You should just leave, they'll be better off without you. No one will miss you. It’s obvious they all hate you. You’re nothing but a failed wanna-be queen
"NON CE N'EST PAS VRAI!"
She slammed her fist into the wall as tears streamed down her face. She felt something in her hand crack but she couldn’t feel the pain as she sunk to the ground in tears
You are weak
“I am weak” She echoed in a whisper as she pulled her knees to her chest and buried her head in them
