Bad news for anyone who writes with me: I have damaged the tendons in my right wrist. It takes me a very long and frustrating time to type a sentence.
Merlin laughed along with the knight. “If you can convince him to come along, I’ll be thoroughly impressed.” The warlock paused, smiling at the fondness in Percival’s voice when the man spoke again.
“She’s got you completely wrapped around her little finger, you know.” He grinned. “Be glad that Gwaine isn’t in charge of assignment duties. He’d have you ferrying those children all through the lower town all day and all night.” Merlin laughed again.
“Though actually, I’d hate to see what he’d assign to me. I’m convinced he still holds it against me that he had to help clean the entire army’s boots to pay off his tavern tab when he first arrived in Camelot.”
"You're the one he actually listens to," Percival says with a laugh. "Whether he'll admit it or not is a different matter."
They've all got ways and means of trying to talk Arthur around -- appealing to his vanity, or to his better nature, or teasing him into it -- but whatever Merlin does, it seems to have the most effect.
"Well, it's better'n guarding the cells, at least," he chuckles. "And trust me, he does. Gwaine, cleaning boots? Not exactly his usual pastime. Not sure he'll ever quite get over it -- and it's worse 'cause you saw him do it. I think he'd rather have done it alone so there was no one to witness his shame."
"I’m sure you can handle them. You’re trained for it, after all.
—Of course. Trustworthy is my middle name.”
"True enough, I am.
--here I thought your middle name was 'clumsy'."
“Come, it isn’t that bad—”
"I've eaten my fair share of bad meals in my time, but I can guarantee that one was the worst."
Merlin heard the underlying emotion in Percival’s voice and he couldn’t help but feel a bit guilty though what he had said was intended as a joke.
”Good. It’s probably best that both sides of a friendship value it,” he said with a small chuckle. “You and the knights,” he started, voice suddenly quiet and thoughtful. “You’re like my family away from family, you know?”
He hadn’t an idea as to why he was sharing something personal when it could be turned into a joke, but he felt it was important for the other to know.
His expression softens at that, changes to something that's half understanding and half gratitude. His gaze drops. It'd be easy to pass that off as a joke, to turn it into something funny -- but he can't bring himself to do so.
"Me too," he admits. "After -- well, I didn't have much until I came to Camelot." A gentle smile, half-pained, flickers across his countenance. "You're all my only family."
And God, he's grateful for them. He hadn't thought, after the death of his mother, his friends, that he'd ever have a family again; and yet here he was.
Merlin Meme: Six Side Characters [2/6] → Percival
Kiara had lost count of the number of pain remedies she had made by now, and so although rather time consuming, it hadn’t taken that much effort to complete.
With the glass vial tightly clasped in her hand, she had made her way down to the lower town before the sun had completely set. Walking towards the tavern on her own wasn’t overly dangerous, but doing so in darkness would certainly put her on edge, and so she set out to avoid that.
Taking a deep breath as she stepped into the tavern, her eyes scanned across the busy room, easily spotting Percival in the crowd. Carefully dodging a rather rowdy group of drunk men, she made her way over to the table he was sitting at.
“Percival?” she smiled slightly, reaching out and resting a gentle hand on his arm to get his attention. “I have the remedy, just drink half of it tonight and the rest tomorrow morning. It should get rid of most of the pain,” and with that, she began to turn away; not wanting to interrupt his evening.
The touch on his arm, has him turning his head, smile still pasted across his face from the joke that's just been told. At the sight of Kiara -- looking a little out of place in the tavern, full as it is of rather rowdy knights and townsmen -- it only widens a fraction. The vial is accepted in his hand, and he thanks her, but as she begins to turn away, he stands, catches her shoulder.
" -- it's getting dark," he observes. "Can't let you walk back on your own; I'll go with you." He's a little drunk -- but just a little, so that the ale is keeping the easy smile on his face and a warmth in his blood. "Nothing to ward off drunks like another, very large drunk," he jokes.
The sun licks at their skin on that fine Saturday afternoon, there are other people around them, but Merlin doesn’t care that much because he’s enjoying the flickle sun that graced them that day. Percival’s lying next to him and Merlin’s looking up to the sky when he speaks, voice warm and calm, so Merlin turns to look at him.
” ——Gwaine and that girl? Doubt it. You know how he is and she isn’t much of his type.”
Not that he knows what Gwaine’s type is, but he knows their friend and knows she is just a fling.
He snorts, at that, tipping his neck so that he's facing Merlin, the sarcastic half-smile that's stretching across his lips accompanied by a laugh.
"Every girl is Gwaine's type," Percival points out. The man is like a magnet; wherever they go, his crooked smile and charming manner has girls lining up to give him their number.
