TO THOSE MAKING NATIVE OCS

I see this a lot, no one has actual names, or any reference for names, that are legit Native American, varying among the tribes, for their characters.

Babynames.com and shit like that will give you names made up by white people.

However, I’ve got your solution.

Native-Languages  is a good website to turn to for knowledge on a lot of native things, including native names. If you’re unsure about the names you’ve picked, they even have a list of made up names here!

Please don’t trust names like babynames.com for native names, they’re made up and often quite offensive to the cultures themselves.

Azzy, surprisingly. He doesn’t seem like it, because he opens up to new people very fast, and tries to prove his own trustworthiness to them. But it leaves him vulnerable to people taking advantage of his trust, and it’s happened enough that he’s wary of it now. He also has a VERY hard time trusting older adults, because of his childhood/previous home life

izuku’s horse is small and katsuki made fun of him for having a ‘useless’ horse and calling it ‘deku’. meanwhile katsuki’s horse is strong and fast but stubborn and ill-tempered and prone to biting (which katsuki thinks is hilarious at first) and throwing his rider.

shouto’s horse is sired by Enji’s champion race horse, Endeavour, and he has mixed feelings towards the horse bc enji’s a dick and uses his ownership of shouto’s horse to control his son

denki’s horse is just a straight up dumbass but he’s obedient and pretty gentle. eijirou’s horse is also kinda dumb but also incredibly sturdy and friendly and great for teaching kids to ride. mina’s horse is hyper and super outgoing, and sero’s just puts up with everything.

all the students board and ride at the same stables and the staff/instructors are the pro-hero teachers (the horses are all named after their hero names i dont make the rules. actually I do and that’s what i’m deciding)

prime early drama is a junior horse show; where izuku is in the running for first place overall after he and his horse train hard to keep up with everyone else and they figure out their strengths and weaknesses well. and shouto confronts izuku and says that he’s going to beat izuku, except izuku can tell that shouto focuses more on himself than on his relationship with his horse and its affecting their performance. 

before the last course of the show, izuku goes to confront shouto this time, and accuses him of not caring about his horse and neglecting to form a bond and trust with his horse. “she’s your horse, isn’t she!?” and shouto is like, oh shit, she IS my horse, and katsuki wins except he then gets disqualified because his horse charges at shouto’s and shouto almost gets hurt because of it

but then afterwards shouto starts actually paying attention to his horse, who he so far has even neglected to give a name beyond calling her “horse” and katsuki and ground zero get special behavioural lessons from Hakamada Tsunagu, rider of the horse named Best Jeanist, who is known in horse-riding circles as one of the most charismatic riders. he has his own line of fashionable horse-riding gear including so much denim it hurts.

shouto’s horse, thus far named ‘horse’, is a bay paint, and she has heterochromia like shouto except she has one brown eye and one blue

theres one horse in the stables thats always making noise, screaming and whinnying and what have you. she’s a palomino named Siren, and her owner and rider is one of the instructors at the stables and also a radio host nicknamed ‘present mic’. her best friend is a smaller and quieter but quick and even-tempered black mare named Blink, who belongs to one of the barn’s managers and instructors, aizawa shouta. 

blink was named by yamada; if he didn’t take things into his own hands, blink would still be called ‘horse’ to this day. when shouto first started boarding and riding at the UA stables (he refused to ride at enji’s barn but enji was adamant that he kept riding so he compromised and let him go to UA), aizawa spent weeks bugging yamada about forcing him to name his horse. 

“so you make me name my horse something other than “horse” but you won’t say anything about shouto doing it??”

“i cant force a kid to name his horse! especially not todoroki enji’s son!”

aizawa mutters about double standards and for a while, shouto thinks that the instructor hates him, and blames that on his famous dad. after the first junior horse show that shouto participates in, where izuku yells at him about accepting his horse, shouto starts actually considering different names for his horse, and by then aizawa is less grumpy about the name thing anyways.

izuku has a history of taking falls badly and aizawa starts calling him “problem child” because every second week he’s spraining his wrist or bruising his hip, and once in a while he ends up at the hospital with fracture ankle or something. once he gets kicked in the face and needs to get stitches on the inside of his cheek, because katsuki was out sick for a few weeks so izuku took over care for his horse, and when he was cleaning his hooves up he kicked him for no reason other than being irritable. (izuku, of course, laughed it off and said it was his own fault. he kept smiling even though it hurt cause his cheek was all screwed up. damn lucky he didn’t break his face bones)

thinking about the haunt hero and about how rough they have it at school

tw bullying, familial abuse (its not graphic but better safe than sorry)

they have to soundproof their room in case of night terrors, other students avoided them at first bc they don't have full control over their quirk, they used a quirk suppression device during the written portion of the entrance exam which SUCKS because it spikes their fear/stress since their quirk is an outlet, and without their quirk active, it just builds up

they feel guilty about going out in public bc their quirk can be disruptive, and they got bullied about their quirk not being a "hero" quirk. they have kind of a shitty home life bc stress disorders run in their family so their parents split when they were young and they feel like it was their fault (it wasnt sweet baby child it wasnt ur fault i promise), and they live with their mom who has terrible coping mechanisms and took out her frustration on her clinically-anxious child with a somewhat destructive quirk which generates more frustration, then fear, then quirk... all their furniture in their bedroom is bolted to the floor and the doors/drawers all have deadbolts and/or latches, and theres no decorations because anything loose gets thrown around during night terrors and their mom got tired of having to patch the drywall

Laying awake in bed at 2am thinking about backstory for bnha ocs like

she has no people name yet only her hero name, but can I get a round of applause for Standing Ovation? -pre-recorded audience cheering-

Her quirk, Encore, lets her force people to repeat an action they’ve done in the past minute or so (at base level). She has to be able to see them and know which action she wants them to repeat (she must know about it from first or second hand knowledge, either seeing it herself or being told it happened), and then give an audio cue (verbally or by clapping) for the quirk to activate. There’s a chance of it failing, but it decreases when she’s clearly seen the action she wants the target to repeat, when the target can clearly hear her, and when she makes eye contact (thus she draws attention to her eyes with her hero costume).

She was part of the drama club in her middle school, at first just doing odd jobs around stage (but never acting; she kind of has stage fright) until she picked up bigger jobs like script editing, assisting with costume + set design and production, and ultimately directing a play in her final year. She has a cheerful and enthusiastic disposition, enjoys helping others and making them happy, and more than anything wants to become a hero to make a difference in a big way. Despite not being an actress, she’s quite dramatic, often intentionally exaggerating her reactions to draw attention to herself or try to shift the atmosphere of a conversation a certain way.
