life update
hello, it's been a while. during the whole course of quarantine, i was unsuccessful on being productive. others say it's totally fine but i really can't help but feel bad every time i can't finish my to-do lists. my sleep schedule is also pretty f-ed up (i'm writing this with 0 hours of sleep).
but if i won't get over this slump of mine it will just go on and on and i don't want that to happen. i made this post to keep myself accountable.
despite the negativity, i managed to transfer to another school and will be attending there starting this school year. i'm a bit worried though since in a big city so i might not afford renting my own space so i might live in the school dorms which i dont like because i really cant focus with other people around.
but here goes my accontability pledge...
i pledge to do the following religiously:
- always follow my preferred and healthy sleep schedule
- don't check up on others' social media
- don't waste time on irrelevant people, things, or events
- get my life together!
Don’t mistake silence for weakness. Smart people don’t plan big moves out loud.

academia things that genuinely make me happy:
large textbooks filled with extra papers which hold the answers to the problems you thought were too brilliant to be thrown away, or the simple short summary of a part you were struggling to understand before
having your textbook absolutely ruined by highlighters and sticky notes all over it, those little tips and ideas you picked up from the lesson. anyone who opens that book immediately knows that you’ve studied the crap out of it and know the concept by heart. “this is the most annotated book i’ve ever seen” is literally the highest form of compliment for me.
solving math or chemistry problems to a soundtrack album or ambient sounds, extra points if it’s in afternoon lol
when you’re so focused and keen on getting to the final answer that your hand physically can’t keep up with your eagerness so you end up with the most incoherent solution. but you’ve finally got the answer right!
being self-taught in a subject or a few chapters of the textbook, and still smashing the quizzes and the exams
coming up with a new solution to the problem, or seeing the problem from a new perspective, and finally being able to solve it because of just that.
confidently walking out of the exam room. 0 doubt in your mind that you crushed it!
actually feeling how you’ve grown academically, and how much more knowledgeable you are compared to the beginning of the semester
casually and confidently having conversations with a professor about your studies, exchanging ideas and discussing the existing theories, methods, on-going research and all
all of this is everything i want in life- god
a school day in my life (before quarantine)
i want to share my daily routine before the quarantine happened. making this post motivates me (somehow) since i find it hard to be productive during this quarantine. nonetheless, i hope that i’ll be back on track :))
4:45 am (wake up)
to be honest, i used to wake up at exactly 4 in the morning. however, i’m anemic so i need more rest or else i’ll faint in school. so even though i’m sacrificing minutes of potential study time, i had to revise my schedule. i have my alarm go off at 4:45 so that if ever i’ll give in to the snooze button i will be awake on or before 5 am. usually i don’t slack around though. once my alarm goes off, i rise then drink water. here’s a tip to not get sleepy and get back to bed: take a shower once you wake up. and don’t use your phone once you wake up because i swear your schedule is going to be messed up.
4:50 - 5:00 (bath)
i take a bath for around 10 minutes then i wear comfy clothes. classes start at 8 and i just live in an apartment near my school so there’s really no need for me to rush. 5:00 - 7:30 (study)
after i finish bathing, i proceed to my study table and open my laptop. first thing i check my emails. then i proceed to study. it’s either i finish studying some topics or homework i haven’t finished last night or i do some readings for future lessons.
7:30 - 7:45 (prep)
this is where i start to change into my school uniform and fix my bag. i do a mini cleaning of my room and get ready to leave.
7:45 - 8:00 (walk to school)
i just walk while listening to music. the music is just to calm my mood to start my day well. i actually have the choice to go to school early but i’m not the type of person who likes to talk with others. i can’t study in our classroom since my classmates are quite loud. i personally avoid going there early so i won’t waste my time studying ineffectively because of the loud people around me.
8:00 - 4:30 (classes)
there are breaks in between but i don’t want to really go through my schedule or else my post will be very long. but yes, i study during my breaks and utilize most of my time in school to study and not make waste of it.
4:30 - 5:00 (dinner + walk home) i eat dinner at my school’s cafeteria since i don’t know to cook. to be honest, i can eat at my apartment but i’m really serious with managing my time. i can avoid using time by washing the dishes by eating at school. 5:00 - 5:30
if there’s not much to do for the following day, i unwind during these hours. i usually nap, read a book or watch something. but if i’m really busy, i utilize this time to study. (this mostly happens lol) 5:30 - 12:00 (study)
some people might think my schedule is unhealthy but honestly i rarely feel burned out. i don’t feel tired studying because i really love studying. do whatever works for you tho :) 12:00
i drink my medicines then read a novel until i fall asleep --- i hope everyone is fine. i hope this crisis will end as soon as possible. have faith everyone :) p.s. do not hesitate to ask me anything drop me messages here (school/study related or whatever hehe)
what i did to improve my grades
a little back story, when i was still back in 7th grade, my grades were not high but they were not also too low. just around the middle, i guess. but my grades started rising when i entered 8th grade and eventually went higher again now that i’m in 9th grade. i hope this post will help people who are aiming to increase their grades. 1. i fixed my mindset to always aim for 101%
for any school requirement, i always put into mind that it will always affect my grades. don’t hesitate to put extra effort. be extra if you want.
2. never be unprepared for quizzes, tests, exams, recitations, etc.
a habit i regret in 7th grade is that i slack off thinking that i already know a topic. never follow the whisper of laziness saying that you already know this and that so you don’t have to study. a quote my mo told me is “never leave any stone unturned”. even if it is an easy topic, do not skip it when studying for your exams.
3. i made rules for myself to follow
i always post this on my wall
- do homework on the day it was announced
- make notes or reviewers for a topic on the day it was discussed
- finish projects on the week it is announced (this is not applicable if it’s a group project though)
- spend my break periods to do something productive in the library
4. i always took down notes
never assume that this topic will never go out on a test. one time, i was the only one who took notes on a lecture because my other classmates thought it was just a mere chit chat with my teacher. but guess what, my teacher gave a quiz on that topic so a win for me :))) just don’t rely on the materials your teacher distributes, sometimes they include stuff included in the test that are not mentioned in the slides.
5. advanced study
this is so cliche but this saved me so many times (especially during hard topics). i believe almost everyone is given a course outline every start of the academic year. a course outline (some people call it course syllabus) is a paper where all topics on a specific subject are listed. i use my course outline as a guide to advance study. studying in advance gave me an advantage so that topics will be easier to understand when it is discussed by your teacher. when you already studies in advance, your teacher’s lecture will just serve as a ‘refresher’ for your knowledge.
6. i trained myself to make studying a habit
back then, the thought of studying feels so tiring. but when you set it as a part of your routine, you’ll love it! to be honest, i can’t imagine my life when i can’t study in a day. it will just come to a point where you won’t force yourself to study. it will be something you will love <3
7. always track your deadlines, exams, and other important dates
a digital or physical planner will work. back then, i missed some requirements because i relied on my classmate’s reminders. so pro tip: never rely on another person. be responsible on your school work. personally, i use a digital and a physical planner. i update them both (i know it might sound tiring for some of you but it’s not for me). i use my digital planner so i can access my requirements anywhere and anytime through my phone. however, there are classes where phones and laptops are not allowed so i use my physical planner to track the important dates down. i use the muji weekly planner so i use the weekly spaces as my to do list area. i will expand on how i use my planners in another post someday. at the end of every day, i update both. filled calendars and planners are very satisfying to view so that’s the fun part.
8. do nongraded or optional tests
for some people, when they hear that a homework is optional and nongraded... they don’t do it :’) for me, i use them as an opportunity to learn more. and you can ask your teacher any time for help. it’s also fine to make mistakes since it’s nongraded so it won’t affect your grades haha (but for real, making mistakes is fine --> even i myself struggle with this)
9. i reflected on my faults
reflecting on your faults are very effective to reset your mindset. at the end of every quarter, i write all my bad habits and then i write solutions on what should i do to do better. i hope this post is helpful :’) i just typed this in one sitting so i’m sorry haha. also follow me on instagram @studyliaaa stay ; stay safe everyone!
what’s in my schoolbag
i want to post content so this is the fastest one i can do before i go to bed.
→ my actual bag
i currently have this red or maroon-ish backpack that i got as a gift last christmas. i forgot the brand but it was a local brand so i can’t link a store or something.
→ laptop
this is an essential to me! i like to bring my laptop everyday so that’s the reason why i got the 2019 macbook air which is very light and thin!
→ note-taking notebook
this notebook is for taking notes during class. i use it for all of my classes (i just indicate the subject and date). it’s not the organized type of notebook because i really just use it to take down veeery detailed notes so my handwriting must be really messy to make sure i take down every single detail. but of course, this notebook would be my reference for my typed notes and the rewritten ones.
i don’t use any particular brand but usually i buy those cheap notebooks (around a dollar i guess) but in good quality.
if ya’ll want to know my note-taking system, please leave me a message !
→ notebooks for chemistry, physics and math
here’s a little leak out of my studying secrets. in subjects that require a little solving, i have a separate notebook for each one of them. so for me, these subjects are chemistry, physics and math. with solving-related subjects, i find it more effective to rewrite notes rather than type them.
chemistry - i use the muji paper notebook (link here)
physics - i use the veco plain journal notebook
math - i use the veco grid journal notebook
(i’m from the philippines so i buy veco notebooks in nbs)
→ clearbook
this is where i compile all the handouts given by my teachers. this is where i also store other important school papers that i might need. if i need my printed reviewers for that day, i also store them here.
→ summary binder
to have a sort of general idea for the topics i learn at school, i make a reviewer wherein only the important stuff (ones mostly to go out on exams) on a particular topic are included. so basically its like a binder version of a cheat sheet. this binder comes most handy during my exams so that common concepts are easy to refresh.
i use the muji b5 binder (link here) and b5 loose leaf (link here)
→ pencil case
i currently have a pencil case from kumon and i like it :) (i think the specific pens and other stuff i use would be in another post hmm)
→ water bottle
i have this one.
→ planner
i was not really into physical planners but my mom bought it as a christmas gift. now i like using it. but honestly i love it so much!!! best planner for me.
i have the muji b5 planner (link here)
→ phone
i don’t use my phone too much but for communication purposes and to access some productivity/organization apps
→ chargers
self explanatory
→ earphones !!
this is a must! have! for me! if u know me irl, i wear them all the time (not even exaggerating)
→ wallet
i honestly don’t know why i have them bc i’m not rich. just for the sake of having one ig.
→ umbrella
oooo very handy! if you don’t have a pocket umbrella, definitely you should get one. saved my soul so many times
→ book (not for school)
it changes every 2 weeks or so... just to keep myself busy during breaks in the library or while i’m waiting for the food in the cafeteria.
i guess that’s it. this is my first studyblr related post by the way hehe. hope i’ll gain new mutuals through this. i’ll be posting my personal tips and systems for school in the future so hope ya’ll would be interested hehe. stay safe everyone!
p.s. looking for mutuals hehe

it's never too late to start your day
insomnia got you sleeping in until 2 pm?
that's okay. get yourself some coffee and go thrift shopping, no one will know
anxiety got you staring at walls until 8 pm?
it's going to get better. start a load of laundry and take a hot shower, so you go to sleep clean
depression keep you locked in your room until 11 pm?
it'll be alright. drive to walmart and buy some nice candles for your night, you'll wake up with something new
you don't have to start your day in the morning. i start at 5 pm sometimes and let me tell you, doing something almost always feels better than doing nothing. it doesn't have to be big or important. it doesn't have to be too much to handle. it's enough to wash your face, or comb out your hair. if you feel tired, it's enough to make a list of things you want to do tomorrow. don't let the clock hold you back. it's a piece of glass and plastic. you get to decide what a day is.

How I Went From Academic Probation to the Dean’s List in One Semester
Introduction
So if you haven’t read it and want to understand the full story, I recommend reading this post right here (x) Long story short, while yes, I did have very poor physical and mental health that contributed to my academic probation, I also could have been more organized and overall a better student, and maybe I would have not had the best grades - but still maintained “good standing.” My first two semesters were rough. Then I took two semesters off. When I came back this semester, I was determined to succeed and essentially, I learned how to be the best college student I could be. Albeit, this was also after I regained control over my health. Nonetheless, let’s get into it!
I took some time off from school
First of all, what helped me the most was taking two semesters off. I won’t lie to any of you. I took this time to see pain management doctors, receive treatment for my 6 bulged discs that contributed to my chronic pain, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease and re-learned how to live my life, I got my anxiety disorder under control, and I worked 40+ hours a week serving and bartending to become more financially independent - which helped my anxiety. During this time I also learned to be honest with my support system (advisors, close friends, and family), which also contributed to my success this semester.
I forced myself to use a planner religiously (for about a month) until it became an unbreakable habit
I forced myself to use a planner religiously (about a month) until it became an unbreakable habit. Planners are the biggest tool when becoming more organized. During syllabus week, I took my dad’s advice and wrote down every due date, even if it was TBA. This allowed me to be “ahead of the curve.” I am not taken by surprise by any assignments now.
Using my planner, I create artificial due dates for myself that are a day or two before the actual, posted due date. This ensures that my assignments are turned in early, or if something goes wrong in submitting them (if online) then I can make my professor/instructor aware of the issue beforehand so that something can be done. Write: “Have X turned in by today!”
Do your best to also not only stay “on top of” assignments, but also ahead of them. It is better to work ahead and have nothing to do (or due) for the remainder of the week than to be overwhelmed by copious amounts of work and studying.
I took pride in my work
I took pride in my work/notes, and set out to create work/notes that would impress peers (if they saw my work) or impress my professor upon grading my assignments. I specifically set out to “wow” people with what I was creating. This lead me to the studyblr community specifically with my notes.
I emailed my professors literally all the time
I emailed my professors consistently. Even if I had a question that could have waited until the next class - I emailed my professors. They were able to learn my names, and my grades are awesome because of it.
I participated in class
I participated in class. Not only do I sit in the front of the class because I can’t see (ya girl isn’t good about wearing her glasses) but I also do this because professors “teach to the T” This basically means that professors teach mostly to students who sit in the front row, and students that sit down the aisles. So imagine a classroom, and imagine which desks would make a T-shape. That’s where you want to sit. I also make sure to contribute to class discussions. When you sit up front, you are less inclined to be on your phone or doing miscellaneous things on your laptop. Your eyes will be drawn to your professor, you will feel more compelled to answer their questions, and you will pay better attention. With this being said, I was always the student that had to sit in front because I can’t see, but I was also always the teacher’s pet.
I purchased cool/cute study supplies that made me want to study
Buy materials that make you want to take notes with them. I really like Five Star notebooks. I also really like taking notes with Crayola SuperTips. Create notes that are easy for you to review later.
Which brings me to my next tip: actually review those notes later.
Tried and true study apps like Quizlet saved my semester
I utilize study-apps like Quizlet. I know that there are many out there; however, I prefer the tried and true method of good ole Quizlet.
Pay your advisor a visit. They do not judge you!
I make appointments to see my advisors regularly. Advisors can help you if anything begins to go awry. I also made an appointment with the same advisors, so that I didn’t have to re-explain my situation. They never judged me. They can provide you with materials and resources for any issue you’re having. I am always blown away every time I meet with my advisors because they know their jobs so well.
I sat my butt down and did my work
I didn’t exactly “time block” study time because that doesn’t really work for me. However, when I had time after work or whenever - I sat down at my desk and made time for assignments. I highly recommend the Pomodoro Technique. You set a timer for 15-25 minutes, focus on your work during that time, and then take a 5-10 minute break before continuing. Usually, you will find that you either just want to go ahead and finish up or that you definitely needed a break.
I created a study space that I love. It is really miscellaneous and not at all what you see on the majority of studyblrs, but it works for me. I love my desk!
Buy some expos and a white board in addition to using your planner
I use a white board in addition to my planner to write down upcoming dates for the next week/entire month. I use a different color for each class as well as miscellaneous things I need to get done. When I have completed something, I just erase it.
Treat yo self
I congratulated myself for little victories. 96 on a test? Ice cream for you tonight, babes.
Figure yourself out as a scholar
I learned how and where I studied best. My two spots are in the library or at my desk in my room. I also seem to study best with someone else around me, like when my boyfriend is playing his video games - that is the perfect time for me to study. Do you study best with zero distractions, or do you like to work with some music on? Do you like background noise from the TV or completely silent? Are you a night owl or a morning bird? Figure out those things first. You can’t force yourself to study at a time when it doesn’t work for you. For example, I am a night owl so I know that evening - night is the best time for me to get to work.
I learned what ritual worked best for me. Having a cup of coffee while I do my make up, and then ensuring that I was out at the bus stop at least 5 minutes before the bus was scheduled to come, and making sure that I got on the bus that came no later than 30 minutes before my class. Know your routine. What routine works for you?
The obvious
Go to class. Easiest one. Attendance policies can be brutal. Get to know yours. Sometimes professors also say things in class that gives those who attended the upper hand in some way.
I started this studyblr! Knowing I wanted to create content here kept me driven to take notes when I didn’t always want to.
I was honest with myself
I was honest with myself for my short comings. AP classes in high school were beneficial in many ways, but they really taught me how to underachieve my way to success. I hardly ever studied for anything and bs’ed so many essays, but it worked and I got really good grades. That doesn’t really work in college.
Non-curriculum based
I learned to say no.
I learned to cut people who did not fully support me out of my life.
I cleaned my apartment and room every weekend. It’s much easier to study when everything is clean.
I made time to go to the grocery store every week. It’s much easier to learn and function when you are well fed.
I did my best to get some sleep. Your brain needs rest to function its best.
I know it hurts, but check those grades frequently. It isn’t like a credit score, it won’t lower every time you check it
I checked all of my grades at least once a week. I know it can be anxiety-inducing, but you have to know where you are in your classes, especially when April rolls around and you might realize you need to put in a little more work.
I became a point whore
I became a point whore. I took advantage of every extra credit opportunity. Every single one.
The golden rule
I made up a golden rule: Do not cram for any exam. To do this, I always started studying once my professor mentioned the test OUTSIDE of the syllabus. If you have dropped the ball and the test is a week out - create a study plan.
Believe in yourself
Lastly, I believed in myself. You cannot do this if you do not believe that you can.
Remember that you can do anything you set your mind to. Start shouldering the burden now by forging good habits. Be honest with yourself. Lastly - dreams don’t work unless you do. I had a lot going on with my health that lead to my grades being terri - yeah they were terrible. But I still was honest about my shortcomings.
Happy studying, realistic students!
