Kewpie Doll Pearfat
As always, my grandmother made way too much food—now I’m laid out, pressed against the warm wood of her back porch among swarms of summer flowers and proud, plump tomatoes still on the vine. Those fruits might as well be Italian heirlooms, and my family’s future is just as red and round, borne in my niece Wren’s Kewpie Doll cheeks.
Notes
Top - Cherub cheeks, sweet basil, calabrian bergamot
Middle - New vinyl doll, summer blooms, sun-streaked tomato leaf
Base - Nana’s back porch
full bottle of la religieuse has arrived and i need to process my thoughts; been hearing that people are smelling aldehydes though they aren't listed anywhere, for me they come through really intensely in place of the often listed bergamot - which now leads me to think of the scent as chanel no 5's goth cousin, they do share a lot of, if not exact notes, note families. and chanel's fashion design in the 1920s in particular leaned pretty heavily on the silhouette of a nun's habit... i don't think i'll ever know whether serge and/or sheldrake did this on purpose what with how tight lipped serge lutens seem to be regarding everything. but while they seem structurally similar, i don't think i've ever smelled a fragrance and gone 'wow that smells sad' before la religieuse; certainly not with chanel no 5. not that that makes no 5 a worse fragrance.

this smells like a cold church, the sweat running down his neck, leather, heavy robes and red wine
perfume worn with intention is always gonna be sexy. but you gotta know your notes. i don't mean just notes i mean YOUR notes. i can and should wear soft sweet scents like milk and coconut for example but i cannot under any circumstances wear spicy sweet scents like honey. honey is for people who are kiki and i am bouba so it stands directly at odds and cancels my personality out to zero and i become all weird and standoffish because i'm aware i'm trying to mimic somebody. you have to know what intensifies your nature and what fights it and cancels it out and if you know this then even rubber and piss and bubblegum and smoke are just hypnotisiiiinnnggg.
☝️💯🧠
i place somewhere in the upper right quarter but on its lower side. so i can venture into the bouba/dionysian like angel mugler very easily but upper left or god forbid lower left is a disaster. actually the worst on me are citrus but that's not because they're heavily dionysian, they're actually very apollonian in spirit, but they're the single note furthest left of them all, like the most kiki you can get. cinnamon and all warm spices are heavily lower left too, ginger on me is just absurd. all boozy scents are in the lower half obviously but it varies how far down, like wine and gin almost breach containment into the apollonian zone. i can pull off leather/pine/smoke/licorice if i put my mind to it because despite being heavily dionysian they're still on the bouba side of things, so in the lower right quarter. and the notes of my fav upper right category are typically petrichor, seasalt, milk, violet, rice, iris, lavender, coconut, litchi, musk, toffee, almond, lily, water lily, magnolia, at the lower end of the quarter (approaching the dionysian) or just past the border are wine, patchouli, pistachio, and approaching the left border, so nearing the kiki category, but still in the quarter quarter, would be cherry and cassis and jasmine and blueberry. chanel no. 5 is like the platonic ideal of the peak apollonian, like, the end of the vertical axis, pure academism, but horizontally in the middle, doesn't discriminate between the boubas and the kikis, a true middle ground for the idealists. in the upper left quarter (kiki/apollonian) are watermelon, vetiver, mint, citrus, peach, apple, herbs and green notes, pear, geranium, honey etc, while the lower left quarter mostly consists of coffee, oud, balms, balsams, amber, tobacco, spices like cinnamon, ginger, cloves and the like. not all animalics though, many animalics are actually far more bouba since they have this slightly surreal liquid and dreamy quality. which is why cacao doesn't have to be kiki either, it depends on the execution. god how i love sorting and cataloguing ugh
this is deranged actually this is the kind of shit i start thinking the moment i get a school break. i must be stopped i need classes back immediately
