I’m kind of just treating this blog like a diary and just post whatever is in my brain. I’ll likely post primarily about nonhumanity but if I feel like it I’ll post about my other interests and thoughts and most likely a good amount about bugs

I will not tolerate bug hate on my blog. Keep that to yourself or on your own, bug hating side of tumblr or I will block you. This includes spiders, mosquitoes, wasps, ticks, ALL bugs. You get to have your opinions, just please keep them to yourself. I am a bug and bug lover.

Feel free to send me an ask if you’re any critter, just don’t be weird (against my other boundaries) about it.

DMs are welcome from any critter as long as you’re 14-18 (14 and 18 both included). I love making friends but don’t feel comfortable talking one-on-one with anyone significantly different in age than me.

The past several months I’ve felt a lot like a bird who’s also a raccoon and bee therian. Like the Red Crossbill is the “base species”. The body is a bird, the brain is a bird, by all means I am a bird even if nobody else can see my wings or feathers or beak. (I suppose I could be considered a red crossbill holothere)

But also- something in the red crossbill brain is raccoon and bee. I get raccoon and bee shifts- there aren’t shifts with the bird because it is my permanent state of being. I have to actively connect with the bee and raccoon sides of me. There’s nothing I could do to feel more bird than I already am.

It’s not that I’m not a bee or raccoon- but they fluctuate a lot in strength and are very often fairly faint. Particularly in seasons the species aren’t super active. For example, I’ve noticed I really only feel super bee during spring and summer. I still get the occasional bee shift in cooler months, but it’s a lot less common. I feel more raccoon in late summer through early winter. The rest of the time I have some bee and raccoon instincts and behaviors, but not really enough to really impact my life. Being a red crossbill impacts everything.

I don’t actually know at what point I became a bird. I think I was at least a little human as a child. It could be anywhere from early elementary to late middle school. I really have no clue.

I do think I’ve become more bird lately- I’ve definitely felt more feathers lately across my body than ever before, particularly on my legs, chest, and arms, and spreading out from where my wings are attached. But I’ve had these wings for years.

there isn’t a single living organism i don’t like, don’t think is cute, or don’t love and appreciate.

in fact, even the rocks are beloved critters to me. the sand and the stones. the wind, the water, the chemicals and the clay.

no one aspect of the natural world is worth more than another to me. not to me, and not to nature.

when we learn to love ALL the earth, that is when we learn to protect it.

i love my planet. all of it.

Being in the city always makes me feel extra bug-like. Everything is so big here. I feel so small. It’s such a lovely feeling, often my biggest source of dysphoria is my size. I’m me, but also very very confused

When I call myself a bad person, I do not mean morally. I mean I am not made for this life. Human society was not made for me. I’m a bad person the same way I am a bad athlete.

Which is to say, I have never been a person. I freeze when I hear barking. I freeze when I hear yelling. Every instinct is of the forest. I will always be an animal.

No no I get it. I’m supposed to be focusing on school. But I don’t think you understand, I am a wild beast and I should not be stuck in one spot. I am not being productive if I am not moving, if I am not collecting, if I am not feeding. No no I get it. Math is important. But it is spring and I need to be gathering food. Please.

I love love love when critters can tell I’m not human or refer to me as such without having to be told or asked. One of my friends said I run like an insect today. Another friend just started calling me creature and using it/its on me this week. Yes yes yes that’s meeee

I embroidered some wings onto one of my vests!! They’re a tad lopsided and high, but I’m happy with how they came out

I think my favorite thing about nature is how much it embraces the dead. The hollowed out, long dead stumps are homes. The corpses are meals. Nothing is empty. Nothing goes to waste. Everything matters forever

weird alterhuman experience of the day: working on a paper that frequently mentions humans and having to remind myself to say “us” instead of “they” because to the average human that would sound Really Really Weird

I’m starting a newsletter for my schools Sexuality and Gender Alliance, so I’ve been writing a lot of essays lately. Just things to put in once the newsletter starts up properly in August. The amount of times I’ve had to stop myself from referring to humans as some distant species is absurd. I’m already risking severe bullying with my queer theory, they can’t also know I’m a bird.

The immense weirdness of how I view gender is largely impacted by being nonhuman, particularly being a bird. When I wear a ton of jewelry and makeup and bright clothing, I see this as an entirely masculine expression. In most birds, the most colorful male is the most masculine or most attractive one. If I were to wear more neutrals and do less makeup, that would feel very feminine (which I do prefer some days).

That being said, I do often refer to myself as a femboy. But that’s the human version of fem, for others to better understand my preferred expression. But it is in no way feminine to me.
