The best thing about Spider-Noir is most of the actors are playing it very straight as a genuinely good engaging noir mystery. Brendan Gleeson is a great mob boss. Lamorne Morris is so likable. Li Jun Li makes a great femme fatale. Jack Huston and Abraham Popoola are sympathetic and engaging.
And there's Nic Cage. Who is ALSO playing it straight. He's just playing "what if a man became a spider and then learned how to pretend to be human again from watching movies" and is playing THAT insane concept for all it's worth. 10/10. This is what he was born to do.
Just watched Adam Conover (of Adam Ruins Everything) make such a solid point that I think we should spread far and wide. Yes, having AI write your emails is lazy, sure, but people love being lazy. We need to really emphasize that sending AI emails (or using AI responses on social media, or publishing AI flyers, or or or) is rude.
It's rude. You're making someone take their time to read something you couldn't bother to write. You're telling them they were so unimportant you couldn't be bothered to actually take the time to say something yourself. And frankly, you're lying about it while you're at it.
It's rude.
Are you like the only guy who hasn’t been in Jerusalem this weekend? still one of the funniest beats in Scripture
While they were talking and discussing together, Jesus himself drew near and went with them. But their eyes were kept from recognizing him. And he said to them, “What is this conversation that you are holding with each other as you walk?” And they stood still, looking sad. Then one of them, named Cleopas, answered him, “Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?” (Luke 24:15-18)
If anyone thinks Jesus doesn't have a sense of humor one of the first things he did after coming back from literal death is disguise himself as Some Guy, walk up to his traumatized followers who just watched him tortured to death, and go "Sup guys. Did something happen?"
the dancing scene in Tangled always gets to me because like... the king and queen are grieving, this is the hardest day for them, they don't take part in the celebration other than lighting the first lantern. but she's right there she's in the town the person you miss she's in the town she's painting the streets she's singing she's playing with the children. the person you're grieving is here and she's alive and she's dancing outside your window
@cass-the-knight your tags are too good
Watching Obi-Wan Kenobi being the ultimate Jedi Knight in the Revenge of the Sith novelization is great--and then I remember that this great hero is about to lose everything and spend nineteen years as a sad old desert hermit, and I can't handle this level of tragedy.
the horrors persist but so do books, art, hot chocolate, winter nights, the moon, the sea, the stars, sunsets, literature, libraries, cats, flowers, stories, love and the wistful feeling you get when you finally return home
New follower here. Hi!
Elizabeth Weir for the character ask meme
hi hi hi! thank you for the follow and the ask! <3 I love finding other weir fans!!! this made me so happy!
First impression
I love how this is sort of a complicated answer for Weir, since she was played by two actresses, hah. Let me do both:
SG-1 Weir: I was very impressed by her immediately. I really liked her. She was a civilian, so out of her element, but so willing to rise to the challenge of leading the SGC. She was intelligent, fair, diplomatic, and a little funny. I thought she held her own against the established cast so well, and I was SO excited to have another woman in the cast. Even though she would end up leaving for her own show, lol. But I immediately liked her. Weir was exactly my kind of character. I LOVE COMPETENT WOMEN!!!
Atlantis Weir: She was the same character and I don't think there was a huge difference in character traits or anything like that between actresses, but I have to admit, when I first saw her in action in her first appearance on SG-1, I was SMITTEN. I loved her even more than the original Weir's actress. Torri Higginson brought such an adorable charm to the role, a warmth that I didn't really realize was absent until she brought it. I think Torri was the perfect replacement choice of actress. She brought such a depth of emotion to the role of Weir that was so evident right away. And I will never forget how hard I laughed when Weir tried to become the next system lord during the Goa'uld negotiations, LMAO. I was so in love with her right away.
Impression now
To this day Elizabeth remains one of my favorite characters of all time. She retained all those character traits I first noticed of her - obviously her diplomacy, her leadership, her warmth, her charm. But as Atlantis went along she also gained some new aspects to her character - being part of a team, a family. She'd always been something of a solo leader, being a negotiator and diplomat. She wasn't always used to being challenged by her underlings, and she wasn't used to working with the military, and she wasn't used to having to corral a bunch of scatterbrained scientists. We really see Elizabeth come into her own as the leader of a huge, international, multifaceted mission to another galaxy. She grows SO MUCH and becomes such a strong leader, and it's so evident by the loyalty she garners from everyone under her. And through it all, she has just a terrible love life. So bad. So, so bad. I love her so much, my sweet Queen of Atlantis who can't keep her personal life together.
Favorite moment
Hands down - in The Return, when everyone is kicked off Atlantis and Weir isn't even chosen to be the liaison to Atlantis and she just becomes this depressed shell, holed up in her messy, uncleaned apartment, not showering or eating right. It's such a picture into her mindset about Atlantis. Leading that expedition became EVERYTHING to her. It was her reason for being. And without it - who was she?? How could she go back to negotiating some arms deal or whatever when there were wars being fought across galaxies and she wasn't there? I love that so much, that we get to see her break down over this hugely disappointing life change and see just HOW MUCH Atlantis means to her.
Idea for a story
Ooh gosh. I haven't thought about Atlantis fanfic in a while. I mean obviously any fixit fic. Anything. Anything at all to prevent her being killed off (and she was killed off. To me.). Other than that, I had this idea once for like, an Elizabeth Weir and Sam Carter buddy action plot type story once because they're my two favorite Stargate women and I wanted to see them together.
Unpopular opinion
Probably the most unpopular opinion I have about Weir is that I fucking love her and I think she's the perfect leader for Atlantis. I think in our fandom corners a lot of people agree with me but I've been out there.. in the Wider Fandom. And a lot of people hate her. People see her as weak, but she's not weak, she's just not military! Her instinct is to always come at things from "how can we solve this non violently? how can we reach an agreement that makes as many people as satisified as possible?" and I mean that's the fun part of her character arc is she does regularly bump up against the problem of she can't always achieve that. But it doesn't make her weak that she always TRIES. That's what makes her a strong leader!
Favorite relationship
I am simple Sparky trash and it is Sparky forever, to me. Oh god how I love this ship. The incredible head-butting that comes between Diplomatic Elizabeth and Let's Shoot Them John. The way their relationship goes from a rocky, uneven, shouting-on-the-balcony, not-quite-trusting uneasy alliance to a rock solid union of absolute trust in each other. The way they learn and grow with their leadership styles alongside each other, until they become this incredible leadership unit. The way John respects the hell out of her and her opinion, the way he becomes like, her loyal knight. He fights for her, he ~defends her honor, he is thankful every day that this woman took a chance on him, an outcast. And the way Elizabeth looked through his spotty past, his irreverence, his disrepect of authority, to see the diamond shining way.. way.. way down there, lol. God these two just loved each other so much, how could they not? Stranded in another galaxy, the leader and her second in command, fighting a war they never expected to, both of them learning to be the best leaders they could be, together. Ohhhh I love Sparky so much.
Favorite headcanon
Elizabeth and Teyla have a standing once weekly morning tea hangout time. Teyla taught Elizabeth how to make the Athosian tea, and they take turns making it, and they sit together and watch the sun rise and drink tea, and they share their burdens with each other of being the female leaders of their respective tribes, so to speak. They unload their fears and worries and challenges on each other, things only the other could really grasp being in the same situation, and they give each other advice and support. And just become good friends.

SG1'S 1K CELEBRATION ☆ @well-and-true requested ↳ Scene from Stargate Atlantis, 03.20 First Strike
My Shakespeare students (they are 12) wanted to summarize the lessons they learned this semester. If. Um. Anybody would like to see.
I cannot emphasize enough that they made these with very little input from me.
Henry the Fifth
- ALWAYS encourage others to do their best.
- NEVER talk about people behind their back.
Antony and Cleopatra
- ALWAYS check your produce for pests. [They liked this one so much made a rap about it.]
- NEVER count your chickens before they hatch.
Hamlet
- ALWAYS act decisively
- NEVER tell your girlfriend to go to a convent and become a nun [Oh boy they REALLY liked this one]
Romeo and Juliet
- ALWAYS collect all the important information before making an important decision
- NEVER bite your thumb at us, sir. [They enacted this scene in the original language a lot, except they swapped every “sir” for “bro.”]
The Merchant of Venice
- ALWAYS pay your debts.
- NEVER judge based on appearances, because “all that glisters is not gold.”
The Tempest
- ALWAYS try to forgive others.
- NEVER be a colonizer. [Yes, a middle schooler said this]
Midsummer Night’s Dream
- ALWAYS stay on forest trails
- NEVER fall in love with an ass. [They were excited about this one for obvious reasons.]
Twelfth Night
- ALWAYS stay in touch with those important to us
- NEVER read other people’s mail
Macbeth
- ALWAYS wash your hands. [One of the girls performed Lady Macbeth’s entire Out Damn Spot monologue at the end of the semester]
- NEVER succumb to peer pressure.
Persuasion is chock-full of top-notch lines, and this is one of them:
Her spirits wanted the solitude and silence which only numbers could give.
–Persuasion, chapter 10
The "numbers" refers to a number of people, aka a group. Here, Anne wants to be in a group of people because, ironically, that will allow her to feel alone. Isn't that such a relatable and wise though unexpected sentiment? To me, it means that when we are in a group we can disappear and be more alone and unbothered by noise, in some ways, than if we were actually alone, where our thoughts would bombard us with their inescapable presence. It's sad but beautiful, and it speaks so much about Anne's perceptiveness and emotional intelligence to recognize this seemingly contradictory need within herself.
pining is 100000% the most important aspect of pre-relationship fic for me. good-natured whole-hearted pining filled with lovelorn gazing and chest aching and fluttering touches, that’s my top priority. i was put on this earth to watch characters suffer over the profundity of their love for another person. unrequited love is why god made me. characters finding out that their feelings are reciprocated after long months/years of suffering is why the universe was assembled from nothingness. amen.
one of many (many) reasons I love Austen so much is she makes goodness and virtue seem as sexy as they actually are.
#there is not this false dichotomy of good and safe (but boring) and bad and dangerous (but attractive) #when you strip things down to their essence #bad behavior and un-virtuous behavior. literally vicious behavior #is #so #unsexy #and goodness is so attractive!
i want to read a very specific fanfic and i’m so mad that i can’t (it’s sitting in my drafts) (unfinished)
so glad this post is resonating with people bc it’s still resonating with me as i am once again not working on said fanfics that i want to read
Stargate, which received a series order by Prime Video in November 2025, will not be moving forward, Deadline has confirmed.
This makes me so sad! 😭😭😭😭😭😭
This is exactly what i DON'T want. 😭😭😭 Let's face it, in 2026 the only people who are interested in checking out a new Stargate show are the ones who have enjoyed the original series. So getting a showrunner who had worked on those was a great sign that promised a continuation all that worldbuilding, but with a new entry point.
If Amazon's issues were so fundamental that notes to the showrunner couldn't bring them into alignment, then i don't want Amazon's version. If there ever is one. 🤬🤬🤬😡
If Amazon wanted a total reboot, why not do it from the beginning? If they had, I would have been sad about the choice but I would have understood it because it has been so long, etc. and 'hey, this might suck, but I'll give it a go because sure.'
But to do this? To dangle what we actually want* in our faces and then TAKE IT AWAY????
No, I'll have none.
*And of course, the Gero version still might not have been any good, but at least there would be the warm and fuzzies of the same universe** and the potential for cameos and references to previous characters because we have been living on leftovers for a decade so please, give us the fresh crumbs!
**I also admit the hypocrisy of this statement as someone who did not care for SGU at all in tone or content,*** with it being also tainted by the bitterness of the Atlantis cancellation, so no, the same universe doesn't guarantee a good show. But STILL.
***And maybe it's been long enough that I might give it a fair shot were I to rewatch it now??? I liked Eli. Rush was interesting. Felt sorry for Tamara and the baby. But that was it. At least Rodney appeared for two seconds.
