Double Wear Foundation Colour Chart
Revlon Colorstay Foundation
Revlon Colorstay Foundation Color Chart
Choosing between foundations can be the most daunting of decisions. This is especially so when the two foundations we are pitting against each other have created a niche for themselves in the beauty community. Often called the dupe for the cult Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation, Revlon Colorstay Foundation has been making the list of many bloggers and beauty experts alike as a cheaper alternative. Cheaper is a rather subjective term in Singapore when it comes to drugstore foundations (such as Loreal, Revlon, Maybelline) as their cost starts from SGD 25. I truly believe in paying for quality though it has to be friendly on the pocket too.
Can these two foundations live up to the hype? Let us put both of these products into the ring and let the battle begin.
In terms of coverage, the Double Wear provides higher coverage as compared to the Colorstay on initial application. Redness, discoloration or scars are concealed with minimal effort. On the other hand, the Colorstay foundation has buildable coverage. It goes on with a medium coverage but can be layered to achieve a higher coverage. We love how the overall look does not appear cakey despite the layering.
If we had to choose one, we would give this point to Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation.
When it boils down to choosing a suitable foundation, shade variety is crucial. In terms of boasting a wider range of shade selection, Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation takes the cake with 30 shades to choose from. From cool to warm undertones and fair to darker skin tones, there is something for everyone.
For a drugstore option, the Revlon Colorstay does provide users with a decent variety of shades to choose from. Despite having 20 shades to choose from, the options for darker skin tones seems to be limited. Nevertheless, we give bonus points to Colorstay for catering to two distinct skin types. It has two versions of the same product for Combination / Oily Skin and Normal / Dry Skin
This round goes to Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation.
Both foundations come housed in a sleek glass bottle. We were left disappointed in this round of comparison as both do not come with a pump. While we love both products , we do not like the additional effort that comes with dispensing the foundation at times.
This round ends in a tie with neither foundation taking a point.
In terms of consistency, we prefer the Revlon Colorstay foundation for its lightweight feel and runny texture. When applied, the foundation goes on smoothly and does not have any sticky residue. In the case of the Double Wear Foundation, you will have to buff this slight creamier foundation well to get rid of the sticky residue.
While both foundations provide amazing coverage and do not cake up, Revlon Colorstay wins this round as it feels less heavy on the face.
Tip: Use a buffing brush when applying either of these foundations for higher coverage. For a lightweight application, opt for a damp sponge.
In wear time test of 10 hours with the rest of the makeup products used (blush, bronzer, highlight, etc) being constant, we found that the Double Wear foundation had a longer wear time as compared to the Revlon Colorstay. At the 6 hour mark, we noticed the Revlon Colorstay foundation on our T-Zone getting patchy. You end up with patches of products instead of an even finish. In the case of the Double Wear foundation, the foundation may have lost the slightest of colour but it was looking amazing at the end of the 12 hour mark. Long wearing indeed!
This round goes to Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation by a margin.
The winner of this battle of foundations is *insert drumroll*
Estee Lauder Double Wear!
While we appreciate the Revlon Colorstay being great in its own ways and having a cheaper plus point (well technically by 10-15 odd Singapore dollars), we can’t help but love how the Double Wear looks amazing when photographed, last long with minimum touch up and gives fantastic coverage.
So go ahead and spoil yourself with this splurge.
