You could feel someone burning a hole into the back of your head.
You put down your rifle and looked up at the top of the building behind you. There he was, staring intently at you—Narumi Gen, Captain of the First Division and the strongest officer in JAKDF.
Your mind drifted back to last night.
You were on your way back to your quarters when Vice Captain Hasegawa stopped you.
"Platoon Leader L/N, I need your help."
Judging by the troubled look on his face, you had a feeling it had something to do with Narumi.
"Sure. What is it?"
"HQ has been nagging us about the reports, but Narumi still refuses to do them. He's been sulking."
Your brows furrowed in confusion. "What does that have to do with me?"
"You see..." Hasegawa hesitated. "Narumi actually likes you, and he got jealous because you had lunch with Platoon Leader Tachibana."
Oh.
So that was why he'd been acting sour toward you ever since lunch. Looking back, you had noticed that he asked you to spar with him more often than anyone else. He also complimented your skills from time to time, which was incredibly rare coming from him.
You snapped back to reality when a shot hit the ground beside you.
Narumi was glaring at you from above, a silent warning to stay focused—or maybe he was still upset.
Once training ended, you decided to confront him.
"Captain Narumi, did I do something wrong?" you asked. "I'm only asking because you've been staring at me with an annoyed look ever since yesterday's lunch."
"No. I was just... evaluating you. Yeah, evaluating."
"Really? Because it definitely didn't feel that way. It feels more like I did something that really pissed you off."
"I'm just having a bad day."
"Okay, but Vice Captain Hasegawa told me something yesterday, and honestly, it was quite a surprise. Though I can't be sure unless I hear it from you."
You weren't sure where the sudden boldness came from. Maybe it was your curiosity getting the better of you.
A look of panic flashed across his face before he quickly composed himself.
"What nonsense did he tell you?"
"I think you know exactly what I'm talking about."
"No, I don't!" he huffed, pouting.
"Deny it all you want, but I know exactly why you've been looking at me like that."
He let out an annoyed sigh.
"Okay, fine. I hate it when you spend so much time talking to Tachibana."
You noticed a faint pink tint creeping across his cheeks, which only made you want to tease him further.
"And why do you hate that?"
"Because I like you, dummy," he blurted out, his nervousness painfully obvious.
You grinned.
"Yeah, that's what I wanted to hear. Was it really that hard to say?"
He rolled his eyes.
"Where did all this confidence suddenly come from?"
"Where else would it come from if not from the cockiest captain I know?"
sum: fluff, friends to lovers, you invited Yuji to be in your cooking video, a bit of uncle Sukuna, around 1.7k words
a/n: It’s been a long time since I wrote for jjk. and this is my first time writing a yuji x reader. i hope yall enjoy it!
☆♥︎☆♥︎☆♥︎☆♥︎☆♥︎☆♥︎☆♥︎☆♥︎☆♥︎☆♥︎☆♥︎☆♥︎☆♥︎☆
You were flipping through your handwritten recipe book—the recipes in it were your mum’s. Ever since you were kids, you had loved helping your mum in the kitchen. Afterwards, you would write down the new recipes you learned.
You stopped at a recipe for meatballs in mushroom gravy. It reminded you of your friend, Yuji. You hadn’t seen him for around three months now. The last time you met him, he mentioned that he was currently filming a horror movie. He must have been very busy, considering he was the main actor. Nonetheless, you were very proud of him, as this was his first big role. You knew this was going to happen sooner or later since Yuji’s uncle, Sukuna, was a popular A-list actor.
Sukuna was the type who didn’t sugarcoat things and appeared as a scary, buff guy, but he was actually a softie deep down. Once in a while, he would bring you and your friends out to hang out. Your friend group included Yuji, Nobara and Megumi. The four of you went to the same high school.
Megumi happened to be the son of a famous veteran actor, Toji Fushiguro. However, instead of going into acting, he was currently into modeling. You guessed it was because of Satoru Gojo’s influence. Gojo was another A-list actor who sometimes did modeling due to his pretty face and tall figure. He was also a mentee of Toji.
As for Nobara, she was a YouTuber who mostly told horror stories, but sometimes she also made videos discussing pop culture.
Initially, you had wanted to start a YouTube channel with Nobara. However, your interests were so different that you both decided to create your own channels instead. Hence why you were sitting in the kitchen, brainstorming your next content idea.
Looking at the meatball recipe, you finally made up your mind. You would invite Yuji—if he was free, of course—to be a guest in your next video.
You texted Yuji. Just as you were about to put your phone down, his reply came in. That was quick, you thought.
Yuji: I’m free this weekend. So let’s do it!
You: Great, see you this Saturday.
You closed your recipe book and decided to go shopping for the ingredients you needed.
Saturday came, and you were setting up the camera when you heard the doorbell ring. Yuji was here. You walked to the door and opened it. You were greeted with the beaming sunlight and a cheerful-looking Yuji.
“Y/N!!! It’s been a long time since we met,” Yuji said as he hugged you tightly. His bear hug was warm as always—you missed it.
“Well, you’re busy with shooting. So how’s it going?”
Yuji finally let you go. “It certainly isn’t easy becoming the main character, but I’ve learned a lot.” He then handed you a pretty purple paper box—it was from your favourite bakery. “It’s the cinnamon rolls you like.”
“Thanks, Yuji! Come on, let’s head to the kitchen.”
You led him to your kitchen. Next, you briefed him on how the flow of the video was going to be, and of course, what the two of you were going to cook. He was elated to hear that you liked the meatballs he made and had decided to use his recipe.
“Hello everyone! Today is another special episode where I have a guest with me. Let’s welcome the rising actor, Yuji Itadori!”
Yuji then popped out from under the kitchen island, a big smile written across his face. “Hello!! Thanks, Y/N, for having me today. I’m so excited to cook!”
“Alright, so for today’s dish, we’re going to make meatballs with mushroom gravy. And guess what—the meatball recipe is Yuji’s. So… why don’t you tell our viewers the ingredients?”
Yuji introduced the ingredients one by one. Next, the two of you divided the tasks. You chopped the onions and mushrooms while Yuji mixed the minced beef with the spices. As you both fell into a rhythm, you chatted with him to make the video more interesting to watch. Plus, you were sure people would be curious about how this very unexpected collaboration had happened. Thus, you explained how the two of you had been friends since high school and had stayed close until now.
“So, Yuji, how often do you cook?”
“Well, if I don’t have any shoots, I like to cook instead of eating out. I used to live with my grandpa, and I like cooking for him. I also learned some of my grandma’s recipes from him,” Yuji explained as he shaped the minced meat into small balls.
You proceeded to make the gravy. As you tossed the mushrooms into the pan, your wrist grazed the hot rim. You immediately retracted your hand, hissing at the sudden contact.
“Hey, are you okay?” He guided you toward the sink and held your hand under the running water.
Heat crept up your face. Gosh, he’s so cute, worrying over such a small incident.
“It’s fine, really. Just a bit—it’s not even hurt.”
“But it could burn your skin. Of course I’m worried!”
A tinge of pink was now visible on his face. How the tables have turned. You hoped he hadn’t noticed you blushing earlier. You were about to tease him again when a burning smell hit your nose—it was the onions and mushrooms!
“Yuji, you’re so nice to me. What have I done to deserve such a good friend like you?" you said dramatically.
“Yuji, take that mug over there!” You filled it halfway with water and poured it into the pan. You sighed. “I hope you don’t mind a bit of smoky flavour.”
“This cooking show of yours is definitely chaotic,” Yuji chuckled.
“Probably because you’re here.” You playfully rolled your eyes.
After a few hours, the shooting was finally done. You and Yuji sat down to enjoy the meal while catching up with each other. He also told you some juicy gossip about the actors and actresses he had worked with, and you made a mental note to spill the tea to Nobara over a phone call later that night. It was going to be a long one for sure.
Later, after lunch, Yuji insisted on helping you clean the kitchen. He was definitely a sweetheart—and very much your type. However, he was an actor and had met plenty of pretty girls. You didn’t think he would ever like you romantically. After all, you didn’t want to ruin the friendship you cherished just because your stupid self decided to confess and got rejected.
You started the video editing process the next day. You found yourself smiling as you rewatched the recording. Would you and Yuji make a cute couple? That thought lingered in your mind. If only the two of you could magically start dating—no confession, no risking your friendship.
You shook your head, snapping out of your delusional state, and focused on trimming the video. This one was going to be a thirty-minute YouTube video—a bit different from the content you usually made. You mostly posted short cooking videos on TikTok, Reels, and Shorts. However, whenever you invited a guest, you turned it into a special episode for your YouTube channel.
You cut the part where you burned your wrist and decided to put it at the end as a blooper. Satisfied with the final edit, you uploaded the video to your channel. You closed your laptop and texted Yuji to let him know the final version was now on YouTube.
That night, you decided to check your channel. Your follower count had increased and was now just thirty away from reaching one million. You checked the views on the latest video and scrolled through the comments. And boy, they did not disappoint—they had you giggling like a schoolgirl.
You read the top comment out loud. It was from one of your long-time followers:
“Yuji lowkey looks like he has a crush on Y/N.”
Your face grew hotter. How you wished that were true. From your point of view, Yuji was always the super friendly and bubbly type—someone who treated everyone with kindness and a bright smile.
As you skimmed through the comments section, you noticed a few more comments with thousands of likes, all touching on you and Yuji.
This is the ship I didn’t know I needed!
They are so cute ❤️
Please date 🙏
As much as you wanted to like the comments, you couldn’t be caught openly crushing on Yuji. That would be so embarrassing—and awkward. Deciding you’d had enough of the comment section, you opted to read a manga to distract yourself from the fluttering in your heart.
Just as you were about to open it, your phone suddenly rang.
Sukuna.
That was odd. He rarely called you—in fact, the only time before this was when he asked for your help organizing a surprise birthday party for Yuji. You picked up the call and were immediately met with a long sigh from Sukuna.
“Sorry for calling you at night, but Yuji just showed me your latest video with him, and he’s being really annoying about it right now. So please, could you give him a shot?”
A shot? An espresso shot? A rabies shot? There were so many types of shots. “What do you mean?”
“What I’m trying to say is, this brat likes you and would like to—”
“Uncle, stop!!!”
“Get off of me!”
They were clearly quarrelling now, but the only thing echoing in your mind was one simple truth.
Yuji. Likes. You.
You cleared your throat to get their attention. “Um… actually, I have a crush on Yuji too. Please tell him that.”
“Yuji, she likes you too,” Sukuna said. “Come on, ask her out on a date.”
A moment later, Yuji was on the phone. “Y/N, I’m sorry for not being the one to confess my feelings myself. I just didn’t want to ruin our friendship.”
You smiled at that. “I understand, because I’ve been feeling the same way.”
“So… would you like to have lunch with me tomorrow and talk about this?”
You stared at Kaji’s phone number on your screen. Should you confess for real this time?
You didn’t think you had enough courage for that. Plus, it was only during the outing last weekend that you’d talked to him more than usual. What if your crush was one-sided? What if he rejected you? That would be so embarrassing.
Maybe you should get some advice.
And who better to ask than your big brother?
You walked to Hiragi’s room and knocked twice before barging in anyway. Sitting on the edge of his bed, you pinched his leg hard when he didn’t react.
He yelped and sprang upright. “What was that for?!”
You chuckled. “Onii-chan, I want to ask you something.”
Hiragi cocked an eyebrow. “Let me guess. You’re wondering whether you should confess to Kaji.”
Your cheeks turned a deep shade of red. “Y-yeah… so what do you think?”
He sighed. “Didn’t I tell you before to just go for it? I’m ninety-nine percent sure he likes you too.”
“Unless you say one hundred percent, I’ll still be nervous,” you muttered. “Also… should I do it over text or face-to-face?”
Hiragi thought for a moment. Then he smirked. “Face-to-face. Because I want to see his reaction from afar.”
“Ugh. You’re such a busybody sometimes.”
The next day after school, you stopped by a dessert shop and bought a set of mini fruit tarts. Each one had a small slice of peach on top. It wasn’t much, but it was the only dessert with peaches available—and hopefully that was good enough for Kaji.
With the box in hand, you waited outside. The shop was along the route both you and Kaji usually took home. A few minutes later, you spotted them—your brother and Kaji walking together.
Of course Hiragi would be with him today. He’d said he wanted to “watch,” after all.
Your eyes met Kaji’s and you gave him an awkward little wave. Hiragi kept walking, deliberately leaving the two of you behind.
“Are you waiting for a friend?” Kaji asked.
“U-um… actually,” you said, your voice small, “I was waiting for you.”
The air suddenly felt too warm. You could barely breathe. You just wanted to get this over with.
“This is for you.” You held out the box of fruit tarts.
Kaji’s ears slowly turned red as he accepted it. “Thank you. What’s the occasion?”
You took a deep breath. “I—I love you! N-no—that came out wrong!” You panicked. “I mean—I like you, Kaji-kun!”
Now both of you were red as tomatoes.
You waited nervously, heart pounding in your chest.
“I… I like you too, Y/N,” he said shyly. “For quite some time, actually.”
Your face burned even hotter, but you couldn’t stop smiling. “So… does that mean we’re a couple now?”
“I guess so,” Kaji replied, still avoiding your gaze. Then, after a beat, he added, “Do you… want to go on a date tomorrow?”
Bonus:
From a safe distance, Hiragi watched the scene unfold. He nodded to himself, utterly pleased.
I barely did anything, he thought. And yet, here we are.
I’m really the best wingman. (Self-proclaimed, of course.)
cw: background character reader, 6'5 ceo satoru with anger issues, secretery y/n, nobody knows how she got the job, crack, this is just jokes guys i can't get those stupid tiktoks out of my head
"Mornin', sweetheart," the young ceo flashes you a smile, his teeth are so white you find yourself slightly squinting as you look up in his direction to greet him back.
"Goodmorning, Mr. Gojo," you force yourself to smile back, in fear of getting fired.
You don't just fear Satoru Gojo, you're tired of him.
Him and his secretary.
You all are.
The public would not believe what kind of shit he puts you all through in the name of making y/n happy, making her feel safe. It's fucking abuse at this point.
How the hell does railing her in his office, while growling "that's it you fucking slut, let them all know who you belong to," make her feel safe?
And then you all have to witness her limping back to her desk! The poor thing barely knows how to walk to begin with. it's like watching a baby deer take it's first step, but the deers born with a missing leg. this bitch is hopeless.
none of you know how she got the job. some say she used to be a stripper. others say she was born into a royal family and she's just cosplaying as a poor person to hide her true identity. you don't even care to know at this point, you just want to get through one NORMAL shift and go home.
"Oh, uh- hey, reader?" Mr. Gojo stops right before he walks past your desk and faces you.
"Yes, Mr. Gojo?" you ask reluctantly.
"Go ahead and cancel my meeting at 10:00, be sure to block the time off too," he says with a devilish smirk. He doesn't even try to hide it anymore, it makes you sick.
"Will do, Sir," you just smile and nod.
He gives you a wink and walks off, leaving you to mentally prepare for whatever unholy act he's planning on doing to y/n later. You're already dreading having to clean it all up. Yes. Clean.
To work for Mr. Gojo is to be abused.
The next hour flies by like it's nothing and your ears are soon met with the sound of y/n's heels elegantantly clacking through the marble floor. You try to avoid making eye contact with her at this point. She thinks it's because you hate her, but honestly, you could be a spider and Mr. Gojo would still get paranoid, thinking the said spider is out to take y/n away from him.
But still, she tries to greet you anyways.
She gives you a big fucking smile the closer she gets.
"Goodmorn-AAUUUUGGHHHHHHH"
The scream that rips out of her throat scares you and everyone else. You don't even know what happened, but now y/n's on the floor, again. Except this time? She's right next to your desk.
Mr. Gojo's office is directly behind you, and you startle once again from the way he dramatically slams the doors open. He's already staring everyone down, breathing heavily through his nose.
"Y/n?!" he frantically runs to her rescue, she's still on the floor holding on to her ankle. "What happened to you?! Did someone push you?"
You immediately straighten up after that last question, because he was looking at you when he asked it. Pupils blown out and everything.
"N-no, I-I," she starts to do this thing where she manages to laugh and stutter at the same time. "Nobody pushed me, Gojo-san. I swear! Ahh- fuck!! It hurts!" her face scrunches up in pain as she continues to hold on to her ankle.
"I can get you an ice pack-"
"SHUT UP," Mr. Gojo snaps at you, "Y/n, talk to me! What happened?!"
"No, it's okay!" she tries to diffuse to situation, clearly feeling at fault for the way he rudely yelled at you. "I just- ugh, I wasn't looking and hit the corner of the desk. It's fine!"
"No, it's not fine!" he yells at her this time, wondering why she doesn't care for herself as much as he does. "I almost fucking lost you y/n!"
Everything he says kinda goes in one ear and out the other. You're incredibly offended at the way he cut you off when you were just trying to help. It doesn't take long for you start fully listening again though, after hearing him make one ridiculous statement.
"No, no," he shakes his head, acting as if it were him that had fallen on his ass, not y/n. "This isn't going to work, we can't have this desk here, it's a safety hazard. Reader, move it to the corner."
You pause and blink at him a couple times. "I'm sorry?"
"I said move your FUCKING DESK TO THE CORNER," he yells at you again, pointing in a direction that doesn't even lead to the corner. "Do it now, or else I'm breaking your fucking desk and making you do your work on the floor."
Gen Narumi angst to fluff about him having a nightmare about his s/o and being comforted
You were killed right in front of his eyes. He was too shocked and mad at himself to even cry or shout. If only he had arrived a bit earlier. All he could do now was watch your bloody, lifeless body. He dropped to his knees, completely unaware of his name being called over and over again. The only thing in his head was how he would slaughter every single kaiju, down to the last one, until his body finally gave up. Only then would he be able to rest and reunite with you at whatever place the dead go.
There was only one kaiju left that he could see. It was just a yoju, but his body was already at its limit. The yoju swung its tail, hitting Narumi straight on and sending him flying backward into a nearby building. The impact cracked the wall. He was losing consciousness. Maybe this was the end. As his vision faded to black, he felt himself being shaken rather violently. His eyes shot open again—only to be greeted by a worried face. The face of the person who had died because of him.
This couldn’t be real. Was this the afterlife? Why was it so dark? He thought it would look brighter than this.
He then realized the person was talking to him. “Gen, are you okay?” her voice was full of concern.
Narumi blinked a few times, still confused. “Y/N? Where are we?”
“On the bed in our room. You were sweating and shifting a lot, so I woke up. Was it a nightmare?”
He let out a huge sigh of relief. It was just a nightmare. “It felt so real.”
“Whatever it was, we’re safe,” you tried to reassure him.
“Can you… please hug me?” Narumi asked, his voice still slightly shaky.
He rarely asked for anything nicely—let alone said please. This nightmare must have been really bad. You became the big spoon and cuddled him, gently stroking his hair until he fell asleep again.
(this takes place after the manga ends so there's probably a bit of spoilers)
“Platoon Leader L/N, Captain Narumi himself requested your transfer to the First Division due to your outstanding performance during the Kaiju No.9 crisis,” Captain Ashiro said from behind her desk.
Your mouth twitched. You couldn’t wait to see his reaction. He was definitely allergic to hearing Narumi’s name — let alone in the same sentence as yours. Your eyes met his for a fleeting moment. The Third Division Vice Captain, Hoshina Soshiro, stood beside Captain Ashiro — his expression unreadable.
After a pause, he finally spoke. “I don't think she's good enough for them, Captain. Did you forget that Platoon Leader L/N is always late to training even though she's supposed to be leading her team?”
You raised an eyebrow, amused. “But we all know Captain Narumi doesn’t mind a lack of discipline as long as you’ve got the skills. Aren’t I the best candidate then?”
Hoshina gave you a smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes, his adorable fangs visible. “Captain Ashiro, what do you think?”
“I actually agree with both of you,” she said. “However, I do think you should stay here since you’re one of our best officers.”
“Alright then, I’ll take my leave now.” You turned and walked toward the door before stopping. “Captain Ashiro, please send my regards to Captain Narumi. Also, tell him I think he’s cool,” you said the second part while looking straight at Hoshina.
You left the captain's office, and as you swung the door open, you bumped into Shinomiya Kikoru.
“My apologies, Platoon Leader L/N. I’d like to meet Captain Ashiro,” she said.
You smiled. “She’s inside with Soshi— I mean, Vice Captain Hoshina.”
Shit. You almost slipped. Hopefully Kikoru didn’t notice.
You then went straight to Hoshina’s office. You sat on the sofa by the wall and patiently waited for your beloved boyfriend.
A few minutes later, the door swung open. Hoshina stepped in and immediately locked eyes on you. “What the hell was that?” he asked, annoyance clear in his voice.
You rolled your eyes. “I should be the one asking you that. I could’ve transferred to the best division.”
Hoshina seemed taken aback by your reply. He sighed, then walked toward his desk and sat down. “You really do like raising my blood pressure. And we’re not even married yet.”
You chuckled. “It’s fun teasing you, future husband.”
Standing up, you made your way to his side. You leaned in, about to kiss him before—
A knock at the door interrupted. You sighed. Who dared to interrupt your time with your boyfriend?
“Come in,” Hoshina said.
The door opened to reveal Ichikawa Reno, holding a file that was probably a mission report. “Vice Captain Hoshina, this is the report you asked for,” he said, handing it over.
“Alright. You may go. I have important things to discuss with Y/N.”
You and Hoshina both watched as Ichikawa left. Then Hoshina broke the silence, his voice low and teasing. “Shall we continue?”
Later that evening, you went to the mess hall during dinner. As you looked around for a seat, Kikoru called out, “Platoon Leader L/N! Come sit with us.”
You agreed and joined their table. You were enjoying your food when Kikoru spoke up, “I’m sorry for overhearing your conversation earlier, but are you okay with the Vice Captain rejecting your transfer? I think I could help you, considering I’m being promoted to First Division Vice Captain next month.”
You smiled. “That’s so nice of you, but you don’t have to. I want to stay here.”
Iharu, sitting beside him, suddenly joined in. “Reno said you and Vice Captain Hoshina might be in a relationship! Is that true?”
“Oi! Don’t just say that!” Ichikawa scolded him, then turned to you apologetically. “Forgive me, Platoon Leader L/N! I didn’t mean to pry into your personal life.”
“Nah, it’s fine. Guess the cat’s out of the bag,” you said with a shrug.
“So it’s true?!” the rookies exclaimed.
“What’s true?” a familiar voice chimed in from behind you. It was Hoshina.
“They found out about our relationship,” you said.
“What relationship? Do you guys think I’d date this troublemaker?” Hoshina said smugly, clearly teasing you.
He really knew how to get under your skin. You pouted. “It’s okay, Soshiro. I can always find another man if you don’t love me anymore.”
Hoshina frowned. “Please don’t say that. I was just joking.”
Hoshina ruffled your hair gently before sitting beside you. The faint worry in his eyes made you chuckle, melting the tension away. You always found it amusing how one second he could be teasing you, and the next he'd be overthinking whether he had crossed a line whenever you said something that sounded a little gloomy.
“Anyway,” you said, grinning, “I might consider inviting you guys to our wedding.”
“Wedding? Just how long have you two been dating?” Kafka asked.
“Let’s just say she’s had a crush on me since she was a rookie,” Hoshina said, winking at you.
Your face burned, but for the first time, you didn't have to worry if anyone saw.

A/N: I'm sorry it's a bit different from what I planned 🥲 I hope you enjoy it!
I took a nap and dreamed of becoming a little girl and adopting Ranpo as my big brother. And he was like 'You want me to be your big bro? Okay then, let's get some candy!'. Then he brought me to a shop and bought me lollipops.
The door to the rooftop was open. You peeked outside and saw your boyfriend, Umemiya Hajime, talking to his tomato plants. He was alone—the four kings were probably on patrol or hanging out with their classmates. You always found this weird little habit of his adorable.
You tiptoed toward him. One step, two steps… and kiss! You gave his right cheek a quick peck. The trowel in his hand slipped and clattered to the ground.
You expected him to turn around, whine about how you startled him and then shower your face with smooches. But instead, he froze.
“Sunshine,” his voice came out low and dangerously smooth, “such a dirty game you’re playing.”
You giggled nervously. “I’ll take that as my cue to run.”
You took off, laughing, as Umemiya finally turned around. He chased after you—each of his long strides bringing him closer and closer. You sprinted toward the door, but he was faster. His hand shot out and caught the doorknob, slamming the door shut before you could escape.
Your back hit the wall. You realized you had nowhere to run.
Umemiya leaned in, one hand braced beside your head, the other gently tilting your chin upward. A smirk curved his lips before he booped your nose.
“Got ya.”
“Hajime!”
“What? Were you expecting a kiss?” he teased, feigning innocence.
You rolled your eyes. “Nevermind. Just let me go—”
But before you could finish, his soft lips crashed into yours.
First, introduce his sister to Kusumi and Enomoto. Once she was comfortable with them, he’d tell them about her little crush on Kaji. After that, he could let them take over the matchmaking.
He knew his sister was friendly—except whenever Kaji was involved. Then she turned into a stammering mess. Kusumi and Enomoto were sharp, though. They’d know exactly how to help.
On Saturday, Y/N tugged nervously at the hem of her beige hoodie with the little red heart stitched in the middle. Jeans kept it casual, but she still hoped she looked decent. When Hiragi called, she hurried down.
The restaurant at the edge of Makochi was already buzzing with chatter when they walked in. Kusumi and Enomoto waved from a corner booth. Hiragi had warned them to keep this meeting secret from Kaji.
“Hi, Hiragi-san’s little sister,” Kusumi typed on his phone and showed it to Y/N.
“Nice to meet you. You can just call me Y/N,” she said with a shy smile. “Thank you for always looking out for the town.”
“Don’t mention it,” Enomoto replied warmly. “We’re just trying to lessen the third years’ burden.”
The conversation flowed easily—until Hiragi leaned back and dropped the bomb.
“By the way, she has a crush on Kaji.”
Her jaw dropped. “Onii-chan!” she squeaked, covering her face with both hands. “Why would you say that so early on?!”
“Because that’s the purpose of this meeting,” he said matter-of-factly.
Kusumi and Enomoto froze for a second, then grinned like naughty cats.
“Don’t worry, we won’t tease too much,” Kusumi added, though his eyes sparkled mischievously from behind his bangs.
Y/N slumped in her seat, red to the ears. Hiragi just smirked. Phase one: complete.
From then on, she grew closer with Kusumi and Enomoto. Two weeks later, Kusumi texted her:
Mall outing this weekend. Kaji’s coming too. Are you in? Wear something cute.
Y/N’s heart nearly leapt out of her chest. After twenty minutes of pacing, she chose a pink knitted sweatshirt with beige pants and a small brown handbag. She curled her hair slightly and did her makeup carefully. Before leaving, she twirled in front of Hiragi.
“Do I look okay?”
“You’ll knock him out,” Hiragi said with a teasing grin. “Good luck.”
The train ride was short, but to her it felt like forever. Kaji sat beside her, headphones on. When she dared to peek, their eyes met. She quickly turned to the window, face heating up.
At the mall, the first stop was the arcade.
“Two-player games!” Enomoto announced. “Guess who’s partnering up?” He gently pushed her toward Kaji.
“I-I’m really bad at this…” she muttered, fumbling with the controls.
Kaji leaned down, shoulder brushing hers as he guided her hand. “Just press here.”
Her breath caught at the closeness, the faint scent of his lollipop hanging in the air. “T-thanks…”
“Don’t worry about it,” he said softly, lips quirking almost into a smile.
Every time she messed up, he patiently helped, never teasing her once. Behind them, Kusumi and Enomoto exchanged a silent thumbs-up.
Later, they went to the cinema.
“Horror okay with you?” Enomoto asked.
“Yeah,” she said quickly, trying to sound brave.
She ended up beside Kaji. The movie was scarier than expected and at one particularly loud jumpscare, she instinctively grabbed his arm.
Kaji froze, ears turning red. Luckily, no one noticed in the dark.
Realizing what she’d done, she pulled back. “S-sorry! That scared me—”
“It’s fine,” he murmured, though he kept his arm just a little closer, almost like he was waiting in case she reached again.
Her heart pounded so loud she was sure the whole cinema could hear it.
Dinner was at a fast-food place. Kusumi and Enomoto chatted away, leaving her and Kaji in awkward silence.
When a bit of sauce stuck at the corner of her lips, Kaji suddenly leaned over with a napkin. “You’re messy,” he grumbled, gently wiping it away.
Her cheeks flamed. “Th-thank you…”
Kaji avoided her gaze too, ears betraying him with their redness. Kusumi nudged Enomoto’s shoe under the table, both of them barely holding back laughter.
After dinner, the group strolled through the mall. Kusumi and Enomoto whispered to each other, grinning like they were up to no good.
“Hey, I just remembered—we want to check out this one store,” Enomoto suddenly said. The two of them waved and vanished into the crowd before Y/N could protest.
“…They totally ditched us,” she muttered.
“Looks like it,” Kaji replied, shoving his hands in his pockets.
Her eyes darted around nervously until they landed on a brightly lit candy shop at the end of the hall. Rows of glass jars and pastel displays gleamed behind the counter where a smiling worker stood ready with a scoop.
“Want to check out the candy shop?” she asked softly.
At that, Kaji’s eyes lit up. “Yeah.”
Inside, the air smelled sweet—like sugar and fruit. They stood shoulder to shoulder as they scanned the jars behind the counter. The worker leaned forward, cheerful. “Anything catches your eye?”
Both Y/N and Kaji spoke at the same time. “The peach candy.”
Their heads turned in unison, eyes wide.
Her cheeks flamed. “It’s… my favorite too.”
Kaji blinked. “Wait—you knew I liked peaches?”
She fumbled with her words. Because I asked Onii-chan about you… The thought stayed trapped in her throat. “I-I saw you eat peach lollipops a lot,” she admitted instead.
The worker chuckled softly at their flustered expressions before scooping the bright peach candies into two small bags. Kaji accepted both, then handed one to her.
“Now we match,” he said flatly, though his ears burned red.
Her heart skipped a beat. She hugged the bag close like it was the most precious thing in the world. “…Th-thank you.”
He offered to pay for both and they left together, shoulders brushing now and then as they walked to the train station.
Kaji insisted on walking her home since his house was only on the next street. Hiragi was already waiting, casually leaning against the front door. He looked at the candy bag in her little sister’s hand—then at the identical one in Kaji’s. A slow grin spread across his face.
“Well, well. Matching already?”
“Onii-chan, it’s just candy!” she yelped, cheeks blazing.
Kaji muttered something under his breath, gave Hiragi a small nod and walked off into the night. Just before turning the corner, Y/N caught the faintest smile tugging at his lips.
She smacked her brother’s arm. “Stop teasing me!”
Hiragi laughed. “Looks like phase two worked better than I thought.”
Hugging her candy bag close, Y/N’s heart raced. Matching candy… with Kaji-kun.
Hii! I hope you don’t mind me requesting to write something abt the reader applying for JAKDF because they (secretly) admire & inspired by hoshina? how would he react when he finds out about it? Thank you!
Thanks for requesting! Hope you like this✨
Most people applied to the Third Division because they admired Captain Mina Ashiro. But you? You applied because you admired the vice captain. Yes, the one and only twin-sword wielder, Vice Captain Hoshina.
His fanbase was big too—almost rivalling Captain Narumi’s—but you proudly declared yourself his number one fan. You admired how cool he looked fighting kaiju in the news. You loved how his bowl haircut suited him and of course, how adorable his fangs looked whenever he smiled. On top of that, he was known as a dedicated, community-minded officer, often spending his off-duty days strolling through the city and helping out wherever he could.
You happened to be one of the lucky people to experience that kindness firsthand.
You were jogging at the recreational park when a man accidentally bumped into you. You fell, hurting your right ankle. Before you could even process it, the man jogged off after a quick apology. That’s when a familiar voice reached your ears.
“Hey, you good?”
Your head shot up and your heart nearly stopped. Vice Captain Hoshina.
“Y-yeah, I’m fine. Just a little sore,” you stammered.
“Should I help you to that bench?” he asked, genuine concern softening his expression.
You blushed, but this was an opportunity you couldn’t waste. You nodded. He carefully took your left arm, sliding it over his shoulder and guided you to a nearby bench.
“Why didn’t you ask that guy to help you?” he asked curiously.
“Because it’s no big deal. I can take care of myself.”
“So, you’re the independent type?” He tilted his head, intrigued.
“Maybe,” you replied with a small smile. You thanked him sincerely and in that moment, your admiration for him grew even deeper. You couldn’t wait for the JAKDF admission test next week. If you passed, you’d get to see Hoshina every day—hopefully.
Not ready to let the conversation end so soon, you asked, “Will you be the one conducting the exam next week?”
His eyes widened slightly. “Yes. Why? Are you taking the admission test for the Third Division?”
“Of course! I’m both excited and nervous. I just hope it’s not too hard.”
“Well, it’s certainly not easy. But not impossible, either,” he admitted with a faint grin.
Then, after a pause, he asked, “Why the Third Division, though?”
Is he interviewing you?
You hesitated, heat rushing to your cheeks. Still, you decided honesty was best. “Because… I admire you.”
For a moment, he seemed to be caught off guard. Then a sheepish grin spread across his face, his fangs flashing. “Admire me, huh? That’s a first. Guess I better live up to that, then.”
Your heart hammered as he checked his watch and said, “I’ve got to go. See you next week.”
You exchanged goodbyes before he left. What luck, to have been able to talk to him at all.
Fast forward one year, you were thriving in the Third Division. Vice Captain Hoshina had acknowledged your hard work and even suggested your name to Captain Ashiro for a platoon leader position.
Now, if only he’d acknowledge something else—that you’d make a pretty good wife, too.
