I just skimmed the article, here’s what’s cool:

The minimoon is about 2 meters in diameter. It’s like the size of your couch.

If it were headed towards us it would burn up in the atmosphere. It is not headed towards us.

The short name is CD3.

They had to do extensive test to make sure that this was actually a mini Moon and not a man-made object being mistaken for a minimoon, Again. This has happened before. They are sure this time.

It’s already leaving. We captured it for about 2.9 years in orbit and it is on its way out.

Generally a minimoon is captured for only nine months so this is astonishing.

It spins a hell of a lot slower than what minimoons usually do.

The last time we had a mini moon was about 14 years ago, 2006.

i’ve probably told this story before but i think a lot about the time my friends and i were in a hot topic in like 2013 and one of us jokingly said “hey, where’s all the naruto merch???” for context, the Naruto Renaissance of 2015 hadn’t happened yet, so it’d been five-ish years since naruto was a mainstream popculture anime. there was no merch, that was the whole joke.

an employee overheard us and decided that he needed to tell us how much he hated naruto. he showed up from behind some accursed clothes rack like the ancient mariner and just dove into an absolute stream-of-consciousness anti-naruto rant.

we tried to politely escape more than once. we even said stuff like, “haha yeah fair enough. we know naruto isn’t really popular anymore, so we were kidding.”

he wouldn’t stop. I tried telling him directly, “actually, I like Naruto,” thinking FOOLISHLY that perhaps he’d realize he was just yelling at strangers in a store about his beef with a random anime. as you may have guessed, this only fueled the flames of his rage. he continued to tell us exactly why we were wrong to like or even mention naruto. he told us our taste in writing and media is terrible. this went on for Five Minutes, which is always Far longer than people can truly conceptualize until they are suffering thusly.

after a decade of working in retail, for the first time in my life I felt No Sympathy for whatever this cashier was going through. We could not escape. We were practically backing out of the store.

he finally finished off with a statement like, “and that’s why you’ll never see Naruto shit in this store again.”

shaken to our very core, we left and moved on. but 2 years later, as the manga ended, Naruto blew up again and came back into the spotlight on the main stage of pop culture.

my friends and I walked into a hot topic and saw an entire wall devoted to the show.

My friend said, “hey remember that guy? do you think he cried when he opened these t shirt boxes?”

It’s not just allergic reactions. That’s a severe misunderstanding of what disinfectants do and a refusal to acknowledge how serious this is and WHY people are freaking out.

No, they’re not literally being gassed in the grandiose (gore-iose?) way you’d think of - being shoved into an iron chamber like animals that then is filled with gas that melts their skin... But they are still being forced to into small areas with harmful fumes and surfaces covered in chemicals that are made to eat living matter.

If you had to be in a room for days and weeks with bleach or peroxide all over everything, you don’t need to be allergic to start having severe reactions. Cleaning chemicals say to use protective gear and ventilate the area for a REASON.
