Let me say this once and be done with it.
Nearly every character in Riordanvers had a tragic past and most probably has a tragic life.
BUT
Leo Valdez.
It sometimes seems that even the books forget what he went through and how unfair everyone was with him.
Starting from the beginning. He had the worst childhood of all. Let me explain.
He was the one from The Seven + Nico, who hadn't had a home since the age of eight. He was the one rejected by everyone around. It's like Percy had his mother, Annabeth had her father and later Camp Half-blood, Frank had a loving family, Piper had her father, Jason had Camp Jupiter, Nico had Bianca and also Camp Half-blood if he wanted, Hazel had a mother, but Leo was not wanted by literally anyone since age eight, lived on the streets occasionally and never showed his emotions to anyone.
But the worst part is that unlike all the others (meaning The Seven+Nico) he never got the understanding he deserved. His friends considered him to be the seventh wheel. For some, he was just an annoyance. Not even his best friends knew his secrets, and no one deemed him and his feelings important or worthy of attention. Jason and Piper loved him, still his presence was not welcome. Leo had to face threats multiple times and even all alone. Worked the hardest throughout the entire HOO, made a giant ship all by himself, flew it across the world, and didn't get a thank you. He was the real hero in Heros of Olympus. Gaea knew how important he was going to be during the world saving operation and knew she could prevent it just by killing him. Was the main hero of the prophecy. He knowingly died without being entirely sure if he could be resurrected. He literally saved the day, but all the regards went to other demigods. Nobody even tried to make sure if he died. And even after dying and coming back, some say he isn't that smart.
What I'm trying to say is that Leo Valdez is the best character in the Percy Jackson but is not considered such. He was the only one ever, like EVER to come back to Calypso, he DIED for her, and yet nothing is clear with them. He was an amazing friend, but his friends only understood how they needed him when he was thrown into the sky. He was ready to help everyone but was not able to ask for help himself. He used humor to hide all the trauma from his past instead of accusing all, yet everyone thought it was insufferable.
I just want justice for Leo The Super-sized McShizzle Valdez.
Do you agree?
itâs always
âlet Apollo become the camp director instead of dionysusâ this
or
âhave adult Percy take over his positionâ that
but i think âAriadne should join Dionysus as the cool wine aunt who supports and comforts campersâ is elite
Did anyone else ever notice that the Underworld kids are excluded even in their names?
Like Jason, Thalia, and Perseus are all mythological names based on great heroes or goddesses.
And then there's Hazel, Bianca, and Nico. Not connected to mythology at all.
imagine percy getting suspended from school and using his off time to visit chb. imagine chiron assigning percy a random solo quest in california that he needs to complete within a week. imagine percy completing the quest in a couple of days and deciding to use the rest of his time to visit annabeth after she gets home from school. imagine after that quest, percy will head over to chb during christmas break and spring break hoping chiron will give him another solo quest. imagine chiron purposefully giving percy really easy solo quest based in california because he knows he's using it as an excuse to visit annabeth. imagine chiron being okay with it because he understands annabeth's home situation and wants her to be happy, and percy makes her happy. imagine chiron being okay with it because he understands percy doesn't have many people to hang out with during the school year and he knows he and annabeth have a special bond. imagine chiron just letting percy and annabeth be kids.
personal headcanon that annabeth is a conan gray stan. she found him through youtube and followed him into his music career. she blasted 'heather' through her headphones in the dead of night during the battle of the labyrinth. she head-banged to 'checkmate' in the comfort of her kitchen at 2 in the morning when her mortal family was asleep. she cried to the bridge of 'family line' during father's day last year. she's currently practicing the choreography to 'never-ending song'.
Headcanon that Octavian doesn't know any popular artists because he doesn't have access to the internet or electricity. Instead he visits these local music venues / clubs. He tells Apollo about his favourite bands, and every so often Apollo drops in and those bands get launched into stardom.
But more importantly the owners all think he's part of a cult and every so often try to give him pamphlets about "how to know you're in a cult" or just like, offer him a place to crash if he wants to get out. Octavian is yet to be convinced. He always says, "it's not a cult if my gods are real".
The sun and the star was amazing.
Jason, Reyna and Octavian being friends is just amazing.
And fucking tragic knowing how they end.
Seeing them being close, the love, the bonds they forged that only grew as they got older.
And what destroys them.
Just... Jason coming home with barely any memories but he remembers Reyna and Octavian.
He knows them as more than he knows himself.
Trying to reach him.
And it is breaking them both.
Because Octavian loves Jason and Reyna.
And he is so clouded by rage, he can't understand why they would choose these Greeks over him.
The Greeks that took Jason from him.
Who abandoned Reyna and Hylla to Circe and why they got taken by pirates.
Why would they choose them over him?!
And they don't want to fight each other.
But it's what happens.
Their evenly matched, they know each others moves.
From years of sparring.
Jason having to use his full powers, powers he despises because of how much they remind him of his status.
That he's nothing but Jupiter's son.
But even than he can't bring himself to harm Octavian.
Neither can Reyna.
Octavian can't either.
Tears fall instead of blood.
It's others who take him down.
Everyone celebrates and tucked away Reyna and Jason grieve.
The pain drives them apart.
There's something missing.
An ache in both their hearts they can't fix.
They throw themselves into their work because the one person who made sure neither got carried away is gone.
His ashes don't stay scattered alone for long.
The next time Reyna sees Jason is when his coffin is delivered to camp.
The scream she makes echos to Olympus.
She scatters him beside Octavian.
Hoping they find each other.
Hoping that they can reunite and fix what was broken.
She leaves camp.
There's nothing left for her here.
Reyna survives.
She joins the hunt and dreams of laughter and sparrs and love.
She chases the constellations that Octavian taught her.
Watches Thalia with a pained smile when her eyes make her think of Jason.
They will never be whole again.
The dreamer who got lost in nightmares.
The fighter who fought till he couldn't no more.
The survivor who wanders the earth alone.
I donât think Iâve ever seen anyone talk about the parallels between Annabeth and Magnusâ parents. Like the goddess of war strategy and the god of peace? Greek virgin goddess and Norse god of male fertility? Literally Annabeth and Magnus should oppose each other on paper but in reality theyâre the only Chases NOT doing that.
imagine that percy and annabeth take a walk and they see a monster appear down the street and instead of panicking, they just rock-paper-scissors to see who has to fight it
every one of them IS emotionally mature because of the traumaTM, and i see why jason hazel frank (military camp gang) are popular choices it makes sense but jason and frank are too repressed for me and hazel is too young for me to claim they are the best at managing their true emotions. percy is the one we see navigating his emotions most frequently and making an EFFORT to choose to not act on his base instincts that may be detrimental and mainly we see the most of his journey
jason dying sparks a fire in leo and he starts a decades long project of creating ultimate Weapons to protect demigods, each designed to perfectly complement his closest friends.
he toils and experiments and crafts in secret, then gives his creations to his friends, his family. happy ending, right? except leo is a prisoner of his own genius, with no self preserverence
and he creates a weapon for jason, his friend whose death started him on this journey
THE weapon for a lightning wielding demigod. the weapon to end all weapons, to level the playing field between mortal and immortal: a lightning bolt that a demigod can wield at full power. not a less powerful imitation like thalia's aegis but a real actual thunderbolt thats tailored for demigods
he realizes that making such a powerful tool is a deathwish, that the moment any god catches on to his hubris is the moment he's killed. his own father could kill him in a fit of jealousy: you're not allowed to be better or even just as good as the gods
he keeps jason's weapon hidden for a very long time. but when a daughter of jupiter comes along fighting for her life, destined to die, he freezes and sees sky blue eyes and blond hair and the air of someone who knows that she is going to be marched to her death (she's not his reincarnation, nico checked, but seeing her was like seeing jason all over again)
he brings out the lightning bolt.
leo is struck down before he finishes a goodbye
Annabeth wearing shells that Percy gave her in her braids? More likely than you think
Carter: Can we stay with you tonight?
Percy: Both of you? What happened?
Zia: Someone was playing with an ouija board and cursed the whole Brooklyn House.
Carter: Sadie wasnât any help. She doesnât know how to banish spirits, so sheâs just throwing salt at them yelling âdoes this look like a hotel to you!?â
will was actually a king for this
Rick really fucked up saying that Hazel can control celestial bronze and imperial gold because why has she never used that to make weapons fly around like sheâs using the fucking force.
How fucking scary would that be, youâre some monster and want to kill a child of the big three but she has like four gold swords floating around her that stab you when you get too close and instantly tun you to dust.
But no, we didnât get that and we were robbed. Fucking robbed I tell you
