i recently found out the funniest thing about big horses recently which is that for centuries humans have sworn that the feathering on big horse’s legs has been bred in there for a reason, and the reason given is usually something to do with how it helps keep the joints warm and safe when the big horse is doing hauling work in fields.

the thing is: it doesn’t appreciably do that, because the feathers wick up water and mud, which cancels out any insulation advantage they might hypothetically confer, and also it wasn’t even put there on purpose.

the Leg Get More Hair gene is just linked to the Bones Get More Big gene. when you breed any lineage of horses to have bigger bones–not just taller, but chunkier–the leg hair just happens anyway. so every single breed of draft horse has feathered legs, and even carriage horses like friesians get feathers once they hit a certain threshold of lorge.

when you supersize your horse, mother nature throws in a free pair of booties. how cool is that?

Horses I think are in desperate need of being updated!

Just wanna say first off I know some of these horses are already being updated or have been hinted as being a priority for the sso team to update but I want to mention them anyhow.

OUR STARTER HORSE

Our starter horse is sooo crusty, I can't believe it's been 8 years since it was updated it does not feel that long at all. It's animations are really bad, really outdated, the horse is just really stiff in general. It has that stiffness and bad gallop that a lot of early gen 3 horses had when they were being released. In a recent survey that SSO put out they listed the starter horse as being an option for one of the horses they can update (out of many others though), so clearly it's in their mind to do it. I hope it's soon!

2. The Fjord horse

Okay this one was announced on their story not too long (I just about screamed when it was announced) so I'm so excited! The gen 3 Fjord horses we have now are a mess and suffer the same problems I talked about with the starter horses. They're stiff, they gallop really weirdly, but it's mainly how stiff they are that gets me. With some of the really new horses you can see how almost "dead" these other outdated horses look, the new horses have nice idle animation or other quirks which I think really make the horse feel alive. I'm so excited for the Fjord though! And maybe hopefully it'll link somehow to the Kallters please sso...

3. North Swedish Horse

Okay this one is totally just a huge bias for me because the North Swedish Horse was the first horse I ever bought in 2017, obviously the gen 1 version. And stupid 10 year old me later SOLD this horse when some newer horses came out, and I never bought another one before they were retired completely. This is quite literally my biggest regret in my whole time of playing star stable. The gen 3 (or 2? whichever you call the one we have right now) north swedish horse is again, stiff and the animations are pretty poor. I think they're in desperate need of an update. Also we could use more neutral coats like the gen 1 North Swedish horses had. I miss my gen 1 North Swedish horse everyday :(

If you ever thought it's not worth trying to master champs, especially hard ones like Valedale, Golden, or Hillcrest, consider this as a sign that it is indeed worth it.

A lvl 3 (with 16/17 speed stats) can get 3rd while riding 2nd's tail even after getting caught by a deer. In a group of 6 where the next lowest player was an 18.

Yes, level/speed is what will get you wins much of the time.

Yes, the stars will rarely align just right to get you a ribbon as a low level.

But being skilled at a champ can make all the difference in getting you that ribbon when the stars do finally align for you.

The championships are designed as obstacle courses. Take advantage of that fact. That's where expertise can beat pure speed.

Become the dark horse racer that can truly say "skill issue" to the rare player who may sus you for cheating just because you were able to keep up with them (or get put on their Ignore list ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ).
