the mormon church funds trandwife influencers and is beefing up its social media outreach capabilities by bringing in a lot of heavy hitter youtubers fyi. so when you start seeing more 'wholesome family content' over the next 18 months just know its part of a directed and organised campaign by reactionaries to culturally entrench large families and housewives who baby their husbands
How the LDS Church works with — and pays — online content creators.

gonna start reverse-shipping. that canon couple is not dating actually. that kiss was entirely platonic and i dont see why you’re reading into it any other way. their parents are clearly roommates with benefits. when they say “boyfriend” they actually said “boy friend”. every character will become aromantic when i’m done with them
girl get off that c.ai and embrace the 'x reader'

Squid Game season 2 and Squid Game season 3
Stranger Things will be remembered for this
So. My thoughts. Where do I even begin?
First, I want to say that not only was this the most disgusting queerbait I’ve ever had the misfortune of experiencing or witnessing, but this entire season was perhaps the most sloppy, most unsatisfactory and underwhelming conclusions to a show I have ever seen. No, I’m not being dramatic.
Byler aside, and I will get to that, but byler aside, this was a travesty of plot and character alike. A train wreck in slow motion. Who the fuck greenlit this?
This story was once compelling. Unique. Interesting with the perfect amount of mystery to keep viewers invested. And this final season failed to answer practically all questions audiences had for the last decade. What is the upside down? Apparently a wormhole, never mind that they never elaborate on this at all, we have marvel action sequences to film!
How does the upside down look like a mirror of Hawkins? Who the fuck knows. Why was Will taken? Who knows! What did Hopper discuss with Brenner and the other lab people in s1? Who knows! How did Will call Joyce on the phone and do all of the other things we saw in s1? Who knows! Every single question you could entertain, they provide no explanation. Why? Because the writers probably had no clue themselves, and nothing makes that more apparent than this so called finale.
Next, the characters. Christ alive, the characters. We spent 10 years building up two different love triangles that amounted in absolutely nothing. Who writes something like that? Genuinely what was the point? That’s the thing, there was no point. The writers didn’t know what to do with any of these characters or their complex relationships, so they decided to do nothing at all.
They claimed they were not going to leave anything ambiguous, and yet the entire story, the supernatural plot and the character conclusions was left nothing but. It is astounding to me, almost unthinkable to me, that people sat down and wrote this and thought it was a good conclusion. As a writer myself, as someone who has been storytelling since I was 10 years old and as someone who is truly and deeply passionate about the craft, I am speechless. In fact, speechless doesn’t even begin to cover it. I am in disbelief, more like it.
I think as far as characters go, no character is decimated quite like Mike Wheeler. So, his conclusion is what exactly? Misery forever? Absolutely nothing about his actions throughout the show make sense narratively. He quite literally is a nothingburger character if there ever were one. It’s a damn tragedy to me, a total waste of potential. Had they actually written Mike and El’s relationship to be compelling in any sense of the word, perhaps I would have given a damn when El had her whole bullshit monologue and suicide.
Scratch that, we don’t even know if she died. Again, ambiguous bullshit to cop-out for the fact that they didn’t know what to do with her character.
Onto byler, the elephant in the room. Bylers, do not ever let anyone make you feel stupid, or crazy. This was queerbait, to a degree I have never witnessed until now. Malicious and disgusting, and above all cowardly. We did not even get a confrontation or discussion between Mike and Will about Will’s feelings for him. They were such pussies that they could not even do that much. It’s absolutely ridiculous. I could say more on this topic, but I will leave it at this: I genuinely hope this destroys their careers irreversibly. No matter what you ship or what you like or don’t like, they did indeed bait queer viewers, and they baited everyone else too by refusing to elaborate on the relationships Mike had with El and Will. It was again, a travesty for all three characters, a goddamn assassination. 3 for 3 in one go. Do I have to repeat myself? I’m speechless.
This show will be remembered for this. It will be remembered only for this ending. Rarely do shows stick the landing and have satisfying finales. I can count only a few on my fingers. Breaking Bad, probably the best show ever written. Better Call Saul? Arguably even better. ATLA? Amazing. TLoK, though it had some flaws, was also still wonderful. Death Note? Iconic. These are some of my favorite stories, as a lover of writing. I love good storytelling, at the end of the day. I love compelling plots and characters with depth, with meat to them and something to ponder and discuss with others.
Stranger Things? Hollow, lacking in soul and heart all across the board, from the characters to the relationships to the overall plot.
This was quite literally the worst series finale to any media I think I’ve ever seen. It shocks me to my core. It’s so bad that it retroactively destroys the entire series leading up to it. I feel sorry for the actors, who deserved a better conclusion. I feel sorry for the time we all wasted on this. And most of all, I feel sorry for the fans. All of us, no matter your favorite character, ship etc.
We the fans deserved better. And that thought, and that thought alone, is what I will think for the remainder of my life in connection to this show. And that makes me sad, more than anything.
it was incredibly disappointing. the hivemind will be producing our own version. keep an eye out.
Blogging this tweet because this explains SO MUCH about the mindset of pretty much all the folks I’ve known who’re against single-payer, it’s not even funny…
This….
This never occurred to me. Not once. That Americans are against Health Care because they think it actually costs tens of thousands of dollars for a broken arm, hundreds of thousands for a complicated birth, millions for cancer treatment.
Because they’ve never known anything different. The idea that a broken arm is only a couple hundred bucks; a complicated birth a couple thousand; cancer treatment only tens of thousands; all easily covered by existing tax structures.
This explains a lot. And it’s a good example of what I was talking about in my post on scarcity being used to prop up ableism – always question the idea that a resource is genuinely scarce. Even if it seems obvious that it is, quite often that’s the result of careful manipulation and misconceptions that you’re not even aware of.
And never think you’re too smart to be fooled by that kind of thing, it doesn’t work like that. Similarly, don’t think people who are fooled by something are stupid. Nobody can have all the information about everything, and nobody has the time and energy to investigate and put together conscious conclusions about every piece of information they’re given. It doesn’t take being stupid, or even just gullible, to believe something like this.
I currently live in a country without free medical care and still, it’s enormously cheap compared to the USA. An American expat wrote a piece for our English language paper about how she paid more for parking at the hospital than giving birth to her baby that’s pretty interesting:
https://grapevine.is/mag/articles/2016/01/06/healthcare-in-iceland-vs-the-us-weve-got-it-so-good/
Yesterday I had to go to the hospital cause I injured my eye, I’m frankly dreading what the bill is going to be, but what made me balk was being told in the pharmacy that my insurance was denied for the antibiotic eye drops and it’d be over $100 out of pocket. So I didn’t get my eyedrops.
I’ve had these same drops before living in the UK. They cost me seven GBP.
It’s the exact same drug, same steroid, same strain of antibiotic. But somehow the US gets away with charging $100 for a generic non brand version of a drug which is easy to create and widely used. It’s downright robbery, but also a form of eugenics through poverty and class warfare. You keep the poor poor by making sure basic necessities remain unattainable and then you make it seem like the norm so no one fights it.
The rest of the world is not like this.
Eat the rich. Resist.
When I was travelling in Germany once, I seriously hurt my ankle. In a few hours, it had swollen to twice its size, and I went to a little ER in a tiny town. I spoke no German and only one nurse spoke English. They ran an X-ray and an MRI to determine what had happened (turned out I had bruised my peroneus brevis muscle and pulled the tendon), gave me a ton of very regulated meds for the pain and swelling, including some supports so I could walk…and my poor little 22-year-old ass was sat there, knowing all of this would cost thousands, if not tens of thousands, back in the US. I was shaking.
I’m in the exam room, post diagnosis and with pill bottles in hand, and in walks the one nurse I’ve been able to speak to the entire time. She pats my hand and tells me (and this is verbatim—I will never forget this conversation as long as I live), “I’m so sorry. We had to run those tests, and they are expensive. You don’t have insurance so you will have to cover the full cost.”
I start crying.
She continues, softly, as if telling me someone has died, “It’s going to be three hundred.”
I start sobbing, certain I’ve misheard, certain that I would be absolutely fucked, broke and going into debt in a foreign country. “Thousand?” I clarify.
Her entire demeanor changed, and she looked at me as if I had sprouted four extra heads. “No,” she says, “euros.”
That moment radicalised me.
My family got charged several thousand dollars for a late-night trip to the ER when I was a kid after an oops at home resulted in a large cut that needed almost 40 sutures. We lived in the US at the time.
Now we live in Canada. Last year my leg got rolled over by one of the front tires on a pickup truck. I spent 3 weeks in hospital, had 3 surgeries, one of which included skin grafting to cover the half of my leg that was degloved in my accident. I had IV antibiotics 4 times a day, I had physiotherapy daily, I was on a lot of meds for pain and having complex wound dressings changed every day. After all that, I had a home care nurse visit me every 1-2 days for 6 weeks to help with my wound care. The greatest expense to us as a family for the amazing care I received was my parents and husband using the parkade next to the hospital, which was like $13 a day. If we’d lived in the US, that injury absolutely could have bankrupted us.
This information needs to be part of the US med school curriculum.
I remember the moment that radicalized me.
I went to the UK for graduate school, and being there for that long meant I had to buy insurance for the duration. 18 months was something like £800 (this was in the early 2010’s). I, being American, figured “oh ok, that’s the premium and if I need serious medical care, I’ll get charged deductibles and all other kinds of fees at the time of care), because that’s how it works here.
Some time in the early part of that winter, I got incredibly sick. I’m immunocompromised, so sometimes that happens. But being a broke ass grad student in a foreign country, and dealing with unrelated financial abuse from family members, I figured I couldn’t afford going to the hospital. I figured I’d go to their version of Walgreen’s (Superdrug, and yes that is really that store’s name, load up on cough drops, some OTC meds, and try to ride it out as best I could.
One of my friends in my program came over to check on me and offer help. When she got to my room and saw how sick I was, she asked why I hadn’t gone to hospital. I was near tears and said I couldn’t afford it.
This is when I suspect my friend knew she was dealing with an American who was ignorant of how socialized healthcare actually worked, and realized that I couldn’t really be reasoned with. So she said, “I’ll pay for it- let’s go.”
Off we went to hospital, my friend did the talking bc my voice was so shot. The receptionist said, “as you don’t have an appointment, you may need to wait quite a bit.” I heard that and figured 5+ hours was at least what I was in for.
23 minutes later, my name was called.
My friend went back with me, bc I was pretty out of it. The nurse leading us back apologized for the “huge wait” because having a sick patient wait “nearly half an hour just for medical care” was unacceptable. I was stunned.
The nurse and doc asked some questions, looked at the medical records I had on my phone (bc I was a foreigner with very little medical history in the country), did a few rapid tests. The whole time, I’m seeing an old-timey calculator ringing up charges and freaking out… even though my friend said she’d pay, I was so conditioned to believe this would cost a fortune.
About 30 mins later, the rapid tests confirm I have both bronchitis and pneumonia. Doc writes me a prescription for some serious heavy-duty meds. My American ass is thinking, “ok, so now I go home, wait for 4 days for the pharmacy to fill it, then go get it.” The doc tells me that there’s a pharmacy counter on the way out, and I can stop there to collect the meds before heading home.
I’m skeptical but thank him. My friend gets me to the pharmacy counter. I give my name and hand over the paper, fully expecting to be told that it’ll take days to fill. The pharmacist turns around, pulls a bag off the shelf, hands it to me. Because my meds were already filled and waiting.
Me: you had them already?
Pharmacist: of course- there’d be no point in sending you home without medication, that’s why you came here. To get medical help.
Me: that’s so fast? (I am very confused)
Pharmacist: well, we expect people to have these illnesses at a higher rate this time of year, so we do our best to stock up on our end.
Me: that’s so nice? Also, what do I owe you?
Pharm: sorry, love?
Me: what do I owe you? For the medication? And the visit. All of it, how much do I need to pay?
Chat, her whole fact changed. She realized I didn’t just sound funny because I was in respiratory distress. I had an American accent. She reached over and patted my hand.
“Love, that’s what the health insurance is meant to be for. You’ve already paid for this. We’re not taking extra money off you, we don’t do that here.”
The entire visit was less than 2 hours, absolutely free, and everyone worked to be as efficient as possible in the goal of providing comprehensive healthcare for me, the patient.
Once I got home with the meds, I did actually recover pretty well (and relatively quickly, as far as I’m concerned). I talked to the friend after, and she admitted that she knew it was going to be free, but that I wouldn’t or couldn’t understand that in the brain fog of serious illness, so she said what she had to in order to get my stubborn (and terrified of bankruptcy) ass to the doctor.
That’s what healthcare should be. A goal of providing comprehensive and compassionate care to your patients, being well-staffed enough that no one waits for hours, anticipating medication needs, ensuring that patients leave with the medical care they sought- and that they’re not afraid to seek it, because they know medical care won’t make them homeless.
single payer healthcare is possible.
My lord I need you to make up your mind, where the fuck are we going
my lord i think we're lost
my lord????
goddamn it my lord
Yes, my lord... at least my weary feet can rest a moment
my lord, we mustn't disassociate— we're lost, my lord?
American friends: If you are so convicted to donate to food banks during the ending of SNAP benefits, as someone who worked in nonprofit, please know it is much more impactful to donate MONEY than it is to donate food. Food banks can order items in bulk and get them tax free, and it gives them the flexibility to order what they need.
Check on your neighbors, help each other out 🙏🏻
Someone may have already put this in the notes, but if you're donating money to a food bank, and they're a tax-deductible charity and your employer offers matching donations, please look into that! I completely forgot until this post came around that this was an option. I just went in and submitted my receipt, which automatically doubled the $100 I sent to my local food bank to $200. This will really stretch the amount of food that they are able to buy at no additional cost to you.
Where's that one video of the guy yelling "One dollar's worth of food, coming through!" as he pushes an enormous pallet of vegetables?
When I donated $50, the splash page informed me I had donated ?? FIVE HUNDRED (500) ?!?! MEALS???!!!
I just think that choosing your own name should be a part of everyone's life, whether you're trans or not. You should be allowed to choose something you like that suits you rather than just accept something given to you before you were even aware you existed. And if you like your given name good for you, but you should be able to just... pick a new one, without question or pushback from others, including the people who named you.
since I know for a fact survival theft will be going up this month, do not steal from Target, they have some of if not The highest end security measures in place, even if they don't call you out on your first theft, they know you did it, and they're waiting until you've stolen enough to get the law involved.
I am dead serious. Do not fucking steal from Target, you Will be caught.
hi, this is your gentle reminder and PSA: there are ELECTIONS happening in November 4th. PLEASE GO VOTE. Trump is the most unpopular he has ever been, but does that mean your average independent, or republican will vote for a dem this time around-likely no- they probably will just skip the process entirely if they don’t have a candidate they feel strongly about. this is why i’m asking YOU SPECIFICALLY to make sure to go vote. and i don’t wanna hear any doomerism shit about how voting is a waste of time bc of whatever, guys voting is the last of anything we have it is clear most of these people who represent us do not actually care, HOWEVER trump currently has the house, senate and courts and making it even slightly harder to do anything or having a large enough group to speak out against what he’s doing will help hundreds of thousands of people in the US. now more than ever is it important to make sure that they know that we do not stand for this
If you're looking for something to do between now and November 4th to feel like you're making some progress, might I suggest checking out Vote Forward's letter campaigns?
Vote Forward volunteers send heartfelt handwritten letters to unregistered and low-propensity voters encouraging them to participate in our
They've currently got two campaigns active, one for the PA Supreme Court and one for the CA special redistricting election. For the latter one, I can tell you that this is a weird proposition historically and many Californians don't really know what to make of it; it might be one where messages sent to voters could really help make up voters' minds.
You can sign up for as few as five letters to send out. Campaigns run through October 28th!
OP didn't specify which elections are happening this November 4th of 2025, so to be as clear as possible:
The elections this November aren't for the U.S. House, or the Senate, or any other branch of the federal government.
The elections this November are actually more important than the elections for the federal government.
They are a mix of state and local elections.
To break it down further: we have statewide elections in the following states:
New Jersey: Governor, State House.
Virginia: Governor, Attorney General, State House.
Pennsylvania: a retention election for the State Supreme Court. Three incumbent Democratic justices are up for retention votes, where a "yes" vote means they stay on the court, and "no" means they must be replaced (potentially with a Republican). Republicans are attempting to take back control of the court by unseating two or more Democratic justices, which could compromise the fairness of elections in this state in 2026 and 2028. There are also retention votes for several lower courts.
California: Prop. 50 aims to counter Republican gerrymandering in Texas by gerrymandering an equal number of U.S. House seats in CA, contingent on the TX map staying standing in court. If passed, the new CA map would last from 2026 to 2030 (inclusive).
Colorado: Funding free meals for kids in schools, including mechanisms to help counteract the federal SNAP cuts! (Essentially, a recent change to the ballot measure made it so any leftover money from the meal program could go to SNAP.) This is via Proposition LL and Proposition MM.
Maine: Two propositions. The first is a dangerous voter disenfranchisement proposal, which would decimate access to absentee voting and require photo ID to be shown at polls. Proponents of the measure tried to sue to stop the summary on the ballot from actually saying what it would do to absentee voting (they lost their case, luckily), so you know it's bad.
The second Maine proposition asks whether to implement extreme risk protection orders (red flag laws). For context, Maine currently has a weaker "yellow flag law."
Washington State: Proposition to allow the state to fund its upcoming, public long-term care insurance program, WA Cares, with stock market investments reminiscent of how the state can already handle pensions. This would arguably/ideally keep premiums lower; I won't claim to be an expert on this one but it's definitely worth reading more about.
Texas: Too many propositions to list. (Literally, there's 17). Luckily, Ballotpedia has already listed them for us.
There are also too many municipal (a.k.a. town-wide, city-wide, or county-wide) elections to list! These elections affect your community the most directly!
Most people know NYC is voting for mayor (don't let Cuomo make a comeback!), but don't let him distract you from city council elections, either. Wikipedia has a long list of the largest cities with municipal elections in 2025 (Atlanta, Minneapolis, and New Orleans are some examples), but if you live in a smaller town, be sure to google "[your town name] elections" to see if you have anything this November.
Lastly, there is a special election in Tennessee's 7th Congressional district that's happening after election day, on December 2nd. This district is Republican leaning, but a large enough Democratic over-performance could flip it — and constitute one of the only chances to whittle down the Republican House majority before 2026.
No reblog-guilting here, I'm not gonna judge anyone for not wanting to reblog a long politics post, but I'm sure it would help a lot of people make their plans if enough folks shared this list of what elections are happening this November (and this December).
every. damn. election. since i turned 18.
a fucking hotttiiieee
With the lack of SNAP benefits in the US hitting in a few days, welcome to No Snitch November. If you see somebody taking food? No you didn't. Taking formula? No you didn't. Taking diapers? No you didn't. When the government turns their back on our neighbors, it's our job to protect them.
adding this to the november challenge except if you fail the challenge you meet me for single combat
in the nearest denny's parking lot, in fact
