Library Adventure||Sirius&Emma
precipitantpadfoot:
· ·As it turns out, trying to stumble your way back to your dorm room whilst completely smashed and wearing a Santa suit does not a stealthy entrance make. As such, Sirius Black found himself, as he often did, serving detention: this time in the library shelving books for Madam Pince. However, he was unaware that he would be doing his time with a partner, much less so that said partner would be Emma Vanity.·
·It wasn’t that Sirius disliked Emma. Actually, he found her very exhilarating to be around. She was clever, having a sharp-tongued retort to anything one may throw at her, and beautiful in the way of an expertly crafted blade just before it slices through its target. Casual, graceful danger, alluring but always with a feeling that one should probably keep their distance.
· ·“Hello, darling,” Sirius drawled, bringing his book cart to a halt.·“What’s a girl like you doing in a reputable place like this?”·
She smirked at the greeting, picking up a book from the cart beside her and pretending to consider the cover with a small hum.·“Seems your little party got me into a bit of trouble,” she responded, glancing up at him through her lashes before setting the book back down with a heavy sigh.·“Suppose we’ll just call this karma, since I’m now here to big you for the duration of this detention.”
With a small chuckle, she turned and leaned back against the bookshelves, watching him now.·“So, what’s the system in these parts? Alphabetical by title? Author? Some sort of Dewey Decimal whatever?” For all of her monotony as she spoke, Emma actually knew quite a bit about libraries, having grown up toddling around one, run by her mother. It was a personal library, though she wasn’t sure how personal it could be when it contained thousands of volumes that had to be stored in a separate location from her home, which couldn’t house it all. If her family did things, it was always to excess.
Library Adventure||Sirius&Emma
She’d almost made it back to her common room without getting caught. Down in the dungeons, moving in silence, she’d been sure she would get away with being at the party, unlike the majority of her peers. Instead, she’d found herself running face first into Filch, making her stumble back with a loud exhale and a groan at the realization she was utterly screwed. That’s how she found herself trudging her way up to the library after classes, annoyed to be wasting her precious time on detention when she could have been working on her essays or practicing her power on unsuspecting first years to get them to tidy the common room. However, she reached her destination to check in with Madame Pince. The stern-faced woman gave her strict orders, pointing her to the back set of shelves with a cart full of books that needed to be shelved, “no powers allowed”. Not that Emma’s power would do her any good in this situation anyway. She set her eyes on the shelves and headed that way, noticing another student with his own cart of books already standing there. It took a moment for the appearance to register as she got closer, but she instantly perked up at the sight. Sirius Black. She stopped her cart beside his, leaning her hip against it as she watched him. “Well, I thought this was going to be boring.” The entertainment value of her day had suddenly risen drastically.

“Oh no. Have I created a paradoxical situation in which it is impossible to gain my trust?” He tilted his head. “I suppose have. Terribly unfortunate.”
“That’s pretty judgmental of you, Prewett. Especially given that you don't even really know me.”
fabprcwctt:
“When have you ever given me reason to trust you?” Fabian countered, folding the newspaper in half and resting it in his lap. “Trust is earned, not given.”
She gave a thoughtful hum. “How am I supposed to earn your trust if you never give me a chance?”
lilmisscarrow:
“We don’t play, Vanity. I’m not sure if you’re even inviting me.”
“Consider this the formal invite you apparently need,” Emma remarked, rolling her eyes. “Unless you’re too scared.”
phaedra-rosier:
“Well that depends. What are we playing?”
“That entirely depends on your bravery,” Emma remarked, holding up a bag full of empty balloons.
fabprcwctt:
“I don’t want to play,” Fabian repeated, not looking up from the Daily Prophet. “Partially because I don’t trust you and partially because– No, actually, that’s it. I don’t trust you.”
Emma pressed a hand to her chest, pretending to wince. “That stings. When have I ever given you reason to distrust me?”
“C’mon, don’t tell me you don’t want to play.”
She was also incredibly confident, with a way of moving and talking that communicated that she didn’t need anyone to tell her she was beautiful or worthwhile.

Phaedra grinned as she let Emma pull her along. “Yes,” she said, shaking her head. “It is.” She liked being a part of things, but sometimes she needed a bit of a push.
“Show me what we’re working with, Rosier.”
empatheticregulus:
“’Engorged’ is a bigger word than ‘bulbous’. Anyway, would simply asking someone to move really kill you? I mean, correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m sure it’s never killed anyone before.”·
“I can’t speak toward your vocabulary, but I’m glad you know these things. I also can’t speak for the world as a whole, but I’m sure some point, someone has died from being too polite. I’d rather not run the risk.”
phaedra-rosier:
“Alright,” she said with a laugh, finishing her drink. “Let’s go.”
Emma took the younger girl’s hand, pulling her out toward the dance floor. “More fun than just standing and watching, isn’t it?”
“Come dance with me.”
