I find myself with a problem and your art is amazing so I wonder if you could help me a bit. Sorry to bother and thank you for replying BTW. How do you deal with body porpotions and general positions and faces... I find the body a real pain and would love tips... Help?
Hi! I'm happy you like my drawings!
Unfortunately, there is no real shortcuts when you're learning how to draw a human body. Drawing it with base figures, like circles and cylinders helps somewhat, but you still need to learn how joints work and what is the range of motion that human body can do. And that can be achieved only through practice.
You must draw a lot and use a lot references, I can't stress this enough. I know there is this tendency to want to draw only from you imagination (and I suppose, at certain point, you can do it), but I always use tons of reference photos.
Most of the poses I draw now are mine (I'm at the point where I can imagine my own poses, and know how to draw them), but I still use a lot of reference photos, for hands and feet, and general musculature and to see how light should look on skin.
So the only "tip" I can give you is this: buy a good anatomy book (or several), draw a lot of different poses for practice, start building your own library of photos of human bodies, and use it as much as you can :>
... just remember that redrawing a whole pose from a photo can be a copyright violation (unless it's a stock photo and it's free), so be cautious before you post it as yours. But drawing for practice for yourself is fine (but that's a whole different discussion :>).
