reader thinks jean likes mikasa and she knows she'll always just be his best friend since forever so when bert, this tall handsome guy in her coding class, sits by her in class she's convinced he's perfect for her

taller than jean even, mysterious with an undercut that beats even jean's outgrown mullet, and dark hair with these eyes that shift between blue and grey and green depending on what shirt he's wearing

reader swears they change color based on what he wears, jean says she's looking too hard into it because he only ever wears a blue sweater with a white button up under it

reader is convinced bert must have a huge dick because he's the tallest guy ever

maybe some friends with benefit in there... reader is relatively or fully inexperienced and asks jean to help get them 'acclimated' to someone as big as bert

mind you bert and jean are friends. they're all in the same social circle and jean's like 'stop theorizing about my friend's dick'

but of course jean helps you... he wouldn't leave his best friend without giving a helping hand... or two... and tongue... and eventually it's routine to get the best head of your life from your best friend

jean's loving with it too. he does everything but kisses you on the mouth. he'll pepper kisses all across your body and bring you water and turn on your favorite movie. but as you casually eat popcorn after, watching some dumb romcom, you ignore the parallels and hold him tighter instinctively when you cuddle

jean is fully in love with reader and has been for so long... reader doesn't realize jean getting a crush on mikasa was to cope with the idea of you not liking him back

meanwhile you've loved him this whole time but felt it was impossible. starting college was a chance at a new start but in reality jean's always the one you'll love and no matter how tall and shy bert is it won't change that

jean is so in love it makes him sick actually. reader also sometimes thinks about what mikasa has that she doesn't... does jean think the same thing with bert? spoiler, he does. catch him with black hair if this goes on too long! you'll be the one dying it too

jean even gets more into photography and editing pics to show he's good at computers like bert... really he isn't. but he has a great eye and especially when it comes to photographing you

lots of miscommunication and angst potential yum and also shy bert x reader x standoffish yet protective jean

he's totally like 'i'm doing this to show you how a guy should eat you out' and every new thing he does for you... he's ruined the idea of someone else doing it, even the idea of bert doing it when reader has kind of been clinging to this idea of bert being the solution to the 'in love with your best friend problem'

also i think it's a fun detail bert has black hair and so does mikasa. and also the canon relationship of jean and bert because bert helped take a lot from jean (negative) and in this scenario it's more like bert is helping jean realize what he has (positive) in this scenario... kind of fun juxtaposition!

just realized it's weird that Bertholdt ran off with reiner instead of zeke, since he/zeke/pieck were going to the same place to prep for the barrel toss.

new headcanon: Zeke, in a rare burst of empathy, tried to give them a moment alone… a moment that reiner then fumbled majestically.
