someone could be doing the worst thing known to man online and your first thought still shouldn't be to personally harass them. there are other buttons that will do much more useful things. the 'send ask' button is not the way to fix shit.

the worst part is that the people getting harassed, doxxed, and threatened are most often literally just existing in a way that you don't personally recognise as 'valid'.

you do not get to dictate whether or not someone gets to have an online safe space over their identity. and you definitely do not get to decide whether they're better off dead or alive.

people die over this bullshit. people get traumatised over this bullshit. people's lives get ruined because you think that your opinion is king.

below are some of those people. specifically people who I or my partner knew directly and wanted to honour here. read at your own discretion because it's really fucking sad.

Ichika Akutsu - known online as funtimetransfem, and 'mod glitch' on @radqueer and @transx-culture-is (both terminated)

she took her own life at 19 on January 1st 2024. her final words alluded to a variety of mental and physical health issues and a lack of acceptance from family, from Japan as a whole, and eventually from her safe spaces online. she said "I don't have anywhere to belong except my own home and I'm sorry that it's not enough for me."

↳ Ichika had been befriended by someone on Tumblr/Discord who pretended to be her friend for months. That person then doxxed her and sent a mass amount of others to threaten her on all platforms including via calls to her phone ↳ She also received consistent harassment from others for being openly endogenic, radqueer, transage/trace, proship, an AAM (when still a minor), radically inclusive, and a trans woman ↳ Her loss left her girlfriend, her queerplatonic partner, and her friends in mourning ↳ She was months away from making a trip to the UK to visit her queerplatonic partner and best friend, but not even that was worth sticking around for

her carrd and pronounspage are still up (not updated since she was 17), and so is her discord account. those things will never get to be updated again. she is gone.

↳ a few months on from learning of Ichika's death, Tae-Min, her best friend, went silent on most of his accounts and then deleted them ↳ he stopped responding to any messages sent to him personally after clarifying that he couldn't deal with being online or even out in public anymore. He was likely housebound for almost all of 2024 ↳ he began associating any online threats and harassment he received with Ichika's death and believed the people sending them were coming to get him ↳ over the years, he regularly complained about receiving hate messages due to being radqueer, mixed origins plural, using many transids, having schizophrenia/ASPD/DID/taboo paraphilias, and so on

Tae-Min sent a troubling text to a few friends later last year with final words attached. it's not been confirmed that he was successful, but he has since been unreachable. his words included "i keep getting threats and shit and someone said they know where i live and after everything with chika they must be right theyre out looking for me theyll find me so I have to at least make it so they cant have me alive"

several of his non-social platforms are still up, eg. carrd, prns.cc, rentry, and the trace carrd and transplural carrd he made

Liluye / The Everlasting Aether - known online as @aether-indigenous (which is still up)

they took their own life at 17 in April of 2022 and left behind some gorgeous writing detailing the struggles they faced with their mother and society's perception of two-spirited and Native American people. they said "This life hates me. The people put onto this Earth hate me, because I am different, I am the devil to them."

↳ Liluye was spiritually plural and possessed multiple souls which caused problems for them online, along with being a turigirl (turian/gay person who identifies with the term 'girl'), having taboo paraphilias, and having a complex identity in general due to being two-spirited ↳ In real life, several months prior to their death, they told friends of a hate crime they experienced in which a group waited around their route home from school and attempted to abduct and/or injure them whilst using transphobic and racist language ↳ With Liluye, we also lost the other souls that lived life with her: Ailen, Bones, Elan, Loch, and Tahoma
