lusila̱ks - light a fire inside, or, raven the phoenix. my sticker design for pride month 🏳️🌈🔥
i've gotten lots of comments on my 2021 art of raven as a two-spirit interpretation, here; i've continued to reflect on it as new people keep talking to me about it. i've esp thought about it in relation to how important transformation is as a concept in tsimshian culture and oral history. reflecting on the famous adaawx of him stealing the sun, i imagined the sun giving off its rainbow of light and enveloping him, and likened that to a phoenix, which are also symbols of transformation. i'm very proud of this design!
i'll be honest, it's been a weird month in an already weird year. my gf and i had a really close call in our first ever car accident a week ago. we're miraculously unhurt, but we easily could've been, badly. this and other events just have me reeling, and are humbling me. i'm grateful and lucky to still be here. lusila̱ksu - i'm building my fire inside. even when it's so, so difficult
if you'd like to support me this month, it's available on my patreon until the 30th. luk'wil t'oyaxsut 'nüüsm da txa'nii goo (thank you all for everything), and safe and happy pride 🧡
Xsgaak (Eagle), Latex on Plywood, 2024
My new oversized painting debuted on August 7th @vinesartsociety 2024 Vines Festival at Stanley Park!
It was display again at Oppenheimer Park (August 14th), Grandview Park (August 15th), and will be available to view at Trout Lake Park (August 17th)!
Thank you for having me and my artwork again @vinesartsociety!
Just wrapped up this mural for Waypoint | PLEA Community Services.
Some of the youth had the opportunity to practice their painting skills and assist me while I worked. Thank you for having me!
The salmon come through this area so including them in the mural was important along with a suggested eagle. I decided to have the eagle catching a salmon. The eagle will be fed and the carcass to be dropped to not only feed other animals but also the earth through the soil that will feed our forests. The salmon are such a vital and precious life source.
This was a pretty large undertaking! They wanted to find a way to pretty up the SeaCan with a mural and corrugated surfaces are a nightmare. So we opted to dry out 5 pieces of pressure-treated plywood earlier this year and install those on the side of the bin as a canvas. It wouldn't have been possible without the technical and installation help of our contractor friend Frank, my father-in-law Darrell, and my husband Joshua.
Some of you may have seen some new prints at markets that I haven't shared here yet. I'm working on a series that features all sorts of animals, here is the Raven!
What animal would you like to see in this series?
To the few half life fans who follow this/my account
Shows you my this
Bonus vort(note the antlion grub in the vorts body!!! Symbolizes their extremely close tie as two very different species)

I was definitely dreaming of summer while working on this piece. The beautiful fields of fireweed filled with buzzing bees. I hope to be back home all summer and just soak up the sun by the river 💕

( Month of the Salmon )
Wit'ane Keh, Wit'at, Fort Babine. A place of many names. A gorgeous lake and a fruitful river. Flourishing forests full of medicine and berries. There's plentiful species of animals that share these prosperous lands with us. This village is my home and it has taught me so much. Every year as the summer slowly fades into autumn, we will gather together to start our salmon harvest. Cases upon cases of empty jars ready to be filled, the clinging sound of the knives being sharpened, the cold breeze of the morning air. All of the bins are full of beautiful fatty salmon that were pulled from the river at 7 am sharp. The smokehouse is empty and ready to be filled. The cool morning quickly turns to a burning afternoon as the canners are hissing away and the smoke burns my eyes as I try to hang the last of the salmon. The tables and cutting stations get scrubbed down before we feast on the fresh salmon that will make us sleepy before the evening falls. The harvest of the day is finally over as we grab the last jars from the canner and clean them. We finally get to go inside and rest until we start all over again the next morning. I've been apart of this every year since I was a kid and now my son will learn as I have. That is what I get excited for every year. This is what home feels like in my heart. I can't wait for Talok 'Uze.

I dont seek havoc and revenge as I did in my youth. I just want to find my path of peace and happiness.
This piece represents strength, vulnerability, and growth.
