First of this year's tough sportives. #tourdeyorkshire
Love the lighter evenings. I've had loads on over the past few weeks and I've certainly missed getting out on the bike during this great spell of weather. So I'd already decided I was hitting the road come what may this evening after work. Made a nice change to get out in a short sleeve Jersey and shorts tonight. Also lovely to have the carbon rims back on the bike after being tested over the winter period. Weather is forecast to be great over the next week so hopefully I'll get some miles racked up over the weekend :-)
I don't go out of the way to avoid riding in bad weather...I've just been fortunate to avoid it in such a long time. In Fact I genuinely can't even remember the last time I've had a truly wet ride...until this morning! Thoroughly got soaked...however I can honestly say it was a brilliant club ride. 11 of us from the club braved the rain and had a great ride out. 4 of us then carried on to rack up a few more miles.
Early start for the club ride this morning. Left the house at 7:30am. Made good use before the rain started. Mega windy though! #cycling #CACC
Yesterday's goodies from my sportive. That's me sorted for the next few rides.
Very cold start to the day and very windy throughout the ride. Stayed dry and sun showed its face too. Managed to finish before the hail storm arrived. Nice to get the first sportive of the season under my belt.
Leisurely ride out through the awesome lanes of Cheshire to Jodrell Bank radio telescope.
Nice road out with my cycling buddy Jimmy. Cold but dry day. Country lanes full of mud and some dodgy road surfaces...but made it all the more fun :-)
Very foggy and damp club ride. Makes it all the more enjoyable!
Back to training
The weather is crap! We are being battered by high winds and a mixture of sleet and hail. To be honest we have gotten off pretty lightly at the moment…i’ve got friends in Yorkshire who have really been hit by snow. It’s forecast here over the next few days…however hopefully we will not see a great deal of it.
I’ve no excuses now not to knuckle down to training. I have cleared out my garage and dusted off my turbo trainer. I’ve signed up for the cyclist’s training app, Trainer Roads. This should add some kind of structure to my training…with downloadable programs to follow. It also makes use of something that they call “virtual Power”. I will go into this in another blog. Basically it uses data from the manufacturer of my Turbo and together with the readings from my bike’s Garmin sensors to work out my power output. This then helps me to train to within certain training zones…rather than trying to guess my perceived effort during the session. All very teckie which is right up my street! How accurate it is i’m not sure. However it doesn’t really have to be. If the power output it works out isn’t correct…as long as its consistently incorrect it will still have the same effect.
For one reason and another I have been lacking in motivation over the past couple of months…I think i’ve been out on the bike for a proper ride twice in the past 8 weeks. However I’ve got my mojo back so to speak and will be making time for both road rides and turbo sessions from now on. My “sportive season” is little under a month away and my cycling buddy, Jimmy and I are busy making plans for the year ahead.
My cycliing club that I am a member of, Crank Addicts, is going from strength to strength with new members joing daily. We have now just under 40 members and it was great to get back out on the road and meet some new faces. We are about to place the order for the brand new club kit…can’t wait to see and be part of a peloton riding through the local lanes in our new club gear! It will be a proud moment for me also…as i’ve signed up to be the club sponsor with our business logo being featured on the kit.
46 miles of uneventful cycling this morning. Then nearly take the end off my finger unfolding my turbo trainer. #cyclinginjury #fuckwit
