Huevember Day 25- The fog
Peter Lukas is so fascinating to me. Like, his entire statement reeks. "Oh my childhood wasn't actually very bad" "I'm so well adjusted and fine" "I just happened to be the only one of my siblings who suited the Lonely". Shut UP dude. It's not lying, clearly, because he was compelling, but it doesn't have to be purposeful manipulation to be untrue. This man is so deeply disconnected from himself and his childhood that he really truly believes there's no way that his childhood was traumatizing in any way. I don't care if his bloodline are avatars, they are all still human avatars, not freaky monsters. He is human, or he once was human and he was a little boy who never knew comfort and watched his brother and sister get taken away forever and so he made himself as small and quiet as possible because he was Afraid and That is why the Lonely chose him.
the lukas family and the exploration of their loyalty to the lonely, deeply rooted religious guilt and anger. hello. take a seat. i went crazy again.
i think both mordechai and peter had no idea if they were able to care for someone. all they cared about was loyalty to their patron, it was the most important thing in their lives. yes, both of them had a partnership with jonah magnus but there was always doubt about what they actually felt for the man. whether it was a ābusiness dealā no strings attached or genuine affection (or both). those men never thought falling for someone would be a possibility in their case given their connection to the lonely. (donāt get me started on their feelings about romantic attraction. they absolutely couldnāt tell if they were capable of feeling like that about anyone.) and yet, both of them at least enjoyed jonahās company, which was still confusing.
now, mordechai was devoted to the forsaken to the point where he would deny all his feelings for any man he was close to with a stone cold face if anyone ever accused him of being a disgrace to the forsaken. he would throw the person into his domain forever, make more sacrifices, make more people suffer. he never felt like he had to prove anything to anyone. he was so confident and sure in his religion. people feared him because they knew he would sacrifice them in a heartbeat if they ever wronged him (honorary barnabas bennett mention).
meanwhile if anyone ever accused peter of the same thing, he would blame himself and feel the guilt deeply. he would isolate, letting the lonely feed on him, because he is a disgrace, isnāt he? heās a disappointment to his family, to his patron. he deserves to be in pain. he must isolate himself for days to get rid of those feelings. he canāt be close to anyone. he is not supposed to care for anyone, especially an eye avatar. this is not what he was taught. this is not how a servant of the forsaken should act towards another man.
mordechai directed his anger at other people. anyone who dared to mock him could get ready to suffer in the lonely till their last day. and peter directed his anger at no one but himself.
i also think peterās parents had mordechaiās mindset and they surely meant for peter to act just as ruthless, to be just as confident and devoted to the lonely. a boy brought up in a cult, quiet, scared and never doubting, never imagining a life without his patron, ideal child. and what did peter become? perhaps he was loyal to his patron, perhaps he made sacrifices, perhaps he believed to be strong. but in reality, he was naive and quite easily manipulated. his attempt at the ritual failed miserably. he was laughed at. he trusted jonah, trusted martin, he put trust in people just to get betrayed and mocked at the end. mocked by the very man who peter felt somewhat close to.
peter might have fed the forsaken well (also with his own lonely feelings), but ironically, he never had the respect he was probably expected to receive by his family. mordechai would have not liked him. he would have most certainly thought of him as weak and, quite frankly, pathetic. and itās so important to me.
read yr bio and i have been enlightened. Yes i SHOULD headcanon Elias Bouchard as aromantic
see, iāve been spreading that propaganda for so long. iāll say more, arospec lonelyeyes. (apologies in advance, i am a little insane about them...)
i can't imagine those two expressing any romantic feelings towards each other at all. they have a very specific type of connnection going on there but their relationship is incredibly aromantic coded to me. or at least arospec.
peter is a yearner big time (duh) but he mostly doesnāt understand romance and he doesnāt think of jonah as his romantic partner. he will call jonah his companion, lover, sometimes his husband (when they are not divorced lmao), but never the love of his life. he is attached to jonah (as much as a lonely avatar can be) and he has certain fondness for him, heās drawn to him. but love? he knows thereās no actual romantic love there. not on jonah's side, not on his side. perhaps different kinds of feelings are present, but never the āyouāre the love of my lifeā one. i actually donāt think peter had ever thought he was capable of feeling like that, of loving someone romantically. the concept itself is too foreign for him. most of peterās feelings for jonah really can be described by i donāt know what youāre doing to me but i like it, i like being close to you, and iām scared what it means. because he knows whatever jonah is to him always goes against the forsaken. there is no way to be close to jonah without going against his god. and peter is well aware of that fact. i've seen someone here say peter probably gets weaker every time he lets himself get closer to jonah and he has to spend a significant amount of time away from him to feel better again. i really like that hc. i also think peter is really disconnected from his feelings in general because he numbs them so often.
jonah on the other hand knows romance is just not something he is interested in. he doesnāt feel romantic attraction, he could even be repulsed by the idea of romance. but it's important to point out that not experiencing romantic attraction does not automatically imply the person doesn't experience any other kind of attraction/feelings in general either. and so as much as it pisses him off, what jonah does crave is connection. he feels extremely alone sometimes (at the same time, he doesnāt want to get close to anyone because, well, everyone will leave him eventually) and he absolutely hates it. good lord, why must humans be social creatures? why canāt i stand the lack of attention? it is not very convenient to get invested in a relationship despite his clear lack of that kind of attraction. hence his partnership with the man whose whole thing is his love for solitude. at some point jonah finds out physical intimacy can be a fantastic way to temporarily take care of his needs. and he totally takes advantage of that fact.
lonelyeyes may (sometimes) be an old married couple but ultimately, they don't do any romance. mind you, they don't want it. they work well together because they are just both aware of each other's needs and desires and their little arrangement fulfills them.
fucking hell... they are so interesting to me. fascinating. i could yap and yap and yap about those two. anyway, thanks for listening to my ted talk.
