Worst thing ever in the whole world is when a thunderstorm is forecasted and then it doesn’t storm. literally so rude I was excited for this all day.
Substitutes for Those Struggling with S.H.
☘if you have already hurt yourself, take the time to wash your wounds. Use saline rather than alcohol. Alcohol dries up open wounds and can cause infection. If you dont have saline, you can use warm salt water. Some people like to put bandages or arm/ leg warmers over their wounds so they dont have to look at them/ to get it out of their mind
☘hold ice or a frozen fruit
☘touch your toes and hold it until it burns. This works with other stretches as well, you will feel pain but it won't harm you in the long run
☘do planks or pushups to make your muscles burn, similar to above
☘if you have the tools to do so in a safe and sterile manner, give yourself a piercing or a stick and poke tattoo
☘clap your hands together until they sting
☘find an object to hurt instead of yourself. You can chop up food, or clay. Some people like to go outside and stab the ground with something
If you're reading this, you're doing a great job. Im really proud of you! I know you're struggling, but you're doing your best to heal and thats enough! You wont feel this pain forever. I know you'll make it through this difficult time. Stay strong 💛
things you can do to take care of your mental health on low energy days:
🌱make yourself your favorite tea or drink
🌱have protien bars or protien shakes on hand for when you dont have the energy to cook, and need some nutrients
🌱if you have some things on your to do list, its okay not to do them today. Focus on resting and recharging. Everything else can wait!
🌱if you have something that needs to be done, break it into smaller steps! For example, washing dishes can be broken into:
1. Filling the sink with water
2. Washing plates
3. Washing cups
4. Washing Silverware
5. Drying
6. Putting away
🌱keep a water bottle with you! Water dosnt fix everything, but it'll help you feel a little better.
🌱give yourself small breaks between tasks to do something relaxing that you enjoy.
🌱surround yourself with things that comfort you. Whether its a hoodie, or a stuffie, or your favorite show, keep yourself in a safe space mentally with real world reminders
🌱use a heat pad on your back or shoulders if you'd like! It will release tension and help you feel more relaxed.
🌱stay away from caffeine after 2pm so that you can get a full night's rest! Some other things that can help put you to sleep are Melatonin, Lavender oil, and Chamomile Tea. Make sure you're getting enough sleep!

Ways I saved money when moving out of my family's place:
🦖Get a piggy bank or coin jar
This one seems kinda weird, but if you have somewhere to put your coins you're more likely to actually keep them. Its really nice to turn them in for an extra 20-40 bucks every couple months or so.
🦖Know which grocery stores are cheapest.
This is important, especially if you're moving to a new area. Compare the prices of your local grocery stores and make sure you're getting groceries at the cheapest one! In the eastern U.S. I've found that Wal-Mart and Aldi are the cheapest places to go.
🦖Find a food bank in your community
If you end up in a bad situation where you can't afford groceries, many communities have food banks where they hand out groceries to people struggling. This is offen done through churches or homeless shelters.
🦖Get a budgeting app
I use an app called "Every Dollar" but there are plenty of other options as well. Its important to track everything you spend and make sure you're not overspending or being overcharged. It can also help you find things to cut out of your budget, and save that money instead.
🦖Use thrift stores
This one is kinda obvious, but it'll save you lots, and you would be surprised some of the awesome finds in a thrift store!
🦖Water and electric conservation
Make sure you turn the lights off when you leave a room! That simple. Take showers instead of baths to save water. Buy lower wattage lightbulbs. Just be aware of what is on that could be turned off! It'll really help your bills.
🦖Keep your place clean
Believe it or not this has helped me a lot! Doing a full clean of your place every week and cleaning up after yourself every day prevents bugs, and water damage. Both of which are very expensive to fix!
🦖Hang your laundry instead of putting it through the dryer
Also kinda self explanatory.
🦖Avoid loans/ monthly debt payments.
If you're thinking of taking out a loan to buy something, save up and pay for it all at once when you have the money. Obviously sometimes this is unavoidable. But if you can wait its worth it! With monthly payments I can garuntee there will ALWAYS be hidden fees and interest rates, and you'll end up paying much more. I always buy used cars and save up until I can pay for them all at once. Which leads to my next point,
🦖Start saving up for things before they happen
Having a few savings accounts is crucial to financial stability. Two that I think everyone should have are a medical emergency fund, and car repairs fund. Even if you just bought your car, and its running great, put money into that savings fund every month. If you don't need it, great! But if you do, you'll have a little cash to save your ass.
My monthly budget/ expenses:
This is kinda just an outline of what percentage of my paycheck goes to what. And it can help you get an idea of how much you can afford when moving out. So for example, if you make $2,000 a month, your rent shouldn't be more than 35%, which means that you can afford to pay a $700 monthly rent.
🌿Rent: 25-35%
🌿Bills: 5-8%
🌿Car (gas/ repairs): 10%
🌿Car insurance: 5%
🌿Groceries: 10%
🌿Phone Bill: 2-5%
🌿Healthcare: 5-10%
🌿Savings: 10-20%
🌿Fun stuff: 5-10%
This is just a model that works best for me. It might fluctuate a bit depending on your personal situation. In order to cauculate the percentages, just move the decimal two spaces, and multiply. So for example l, if I need to find 10% of my 2,000 paycheck, take 10. move the decimal to the left two spaces .10 and multiply:
2,000 x .1 = 200
Same for single numbers like 5%, just add a 0, for example,
5%= .05
2,000 x .05 = 100
A great app to use for keeping track of expenses is every dollar. It walks you through your budget at the beginning of the month, and then you just enter in what you spend. It's great practice to use it even before you move out :)
Hope this helps!
Some basic tips for moving out as soon as you turn 18:
🌱if possible, find a part time job while in highschool, and keep every penny in a savings account. That will get you a good start.
🌱if your family isn't supportive, start making a list of adults you trust that could help you when you move out/ somone you can go to for questions
🌱find a steady full time job. If you're not going to college, a lot of community colleges have state payed trade programs that are usually only a couple months long, and they help set you up with a job. Job Corps is also a great option. They give young people room and board while in school (all free) and line you up with a job right after. Some Job Corps programs even have free counseling. The military is also a great option. They will set you up with a place to say, insurance, and plenty of other benefits.
🌱start making a budget! Figure out how much money you will need in order to cover your expenses. (Rent, bills, car, health insurance ect.)
🌱clean out your belongings. Think about what you can sell to help you get a head start. Consider what you really want to keep with you, and what you would be better off donating.
🌱examine yourself and see if there are any expensive habits you could cut out. Every penny counts!
I know most of these are pretty vague, but I'll elaborate on some of these in my next few posts! Please comment some requests for future posts!
