when your skin stings even though you haven’t picked there in a while
stepping out of the shower and seeing your damaged skin is when you really begin to realise the weight of what you’re doing to yourself
off topic
responses to asks get deleted after a few days to keep the feed clean
i just tried to not pick at my skin for a full day and you should too
if you have any form of skin picking disorder, i highly encourage you to try and go a full day without picking at your skin.
i tried doing it today and it was difficult, but the satisfaction of being able to control your urges is very worth it.
your skin also feels much less sore so thats a plus
i don’t expect you to suddenly quit, but even managing a day without letting your urges kick in is such a huge step to combatting the addiction
putting this back in your feed. i want to emphasise how important it is to fight the urge!
i wish people understood that my skin picking isn’t self harm
raw+sore lips from biting off the dry skin is honestly one of the worst feelings
person: i’ve told you to stop picking your skin so many times, why do you keep doing it? me: well have you maybe considered that telling me to stop isn’t working?

dermatophagia/dermatillomania needs to be recognised more
it is a real mental issue
we can not simply stop
it is often not a form of self harm, most don’t pick for the purpose of maiming themselves
it is an addiction
we should not feel the need to be embarrassed by our skin
