Hii! If there's no indication on the challenges, does that mean we can do a one-shot or a chaptered fic? As long as we're within the word minimum it doesn't matter right?

Yes, that’s right! After you hit the minimum word count, it can be as long or as short as you want! We just don’t count a challenge as “complete” until the chaptered fic is finished and fully posted.

What’s a fraternity?

Hey, sorry this has been sitting here a while! 

A fraternity is a thing in US universities where a group of guys do a pledge (usually something disgusting, like swallowing a live goldfish) to join the group, then, once accepted into the group, they all live in a house together. There are generally a lot of weird rules about who you can talk to/what you can wear (although that might be more common with sororities, aka the girl version). Frats are most known for parties, though, full of cheap alcohol, loud music, people generally being obnoxious, and has been known as a location where a lot of sketchy sexual conduct takes place.

The movie Pitch Perfect has examples of frats/sororities, if you’ve seen that. The Barden Bellas group is a sorority and their male counterpart/competitor is a fraternity. 

A good fic example of frats is by @auroraphilealis, who wrote The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot.

Mistakes

Summary: Dan and Phil grew up in a society where their love lives were all planned out for them; at the age of five, they were given a diary to write to their soulmate in every day, and it would only show them the gender and skin shade of their future partner. Everything else about their soulmate would remain hidden, regulated by a secretive government agency. At the age of 25, Dan finally attends the national convention to search for his soulmate, and he meets someone he’s sure is his soulmate; every detail matches up. But the writing in their diaries are different. Dan’s sure he and Phil are soulmates, but the system begs to differ. The system guarantees it doesn’t make mistakes, but somewhere deep within him Dan has no doubt. He and Phil are soulmates, no matter what some records say. Mistakes have already been made, but he’s about to make a lot more.

“We can’t keep going on like this.”

It was out of the blue. A blow of a hammer smashing into what was left of their fragile relationship. It had them both stopping dead in their tracks and retreating into themselves. They were quiet, the fight was over, and each went to a different room.

They had never been good at ‘talking it out’, usually settling for leaving the truth somewhere in the middle; apologising and moving on. Never had either of them said something like this before and they had both felt the impact in their gut. Phil lay curled up on their bed, pulling Dan’s pillow to him and holding onto it for dear life. He knew Dan was right but taking in the familiar smell of his boyfriend he could not find it within himself to accept it.

Seven years of friendship.

Two years of dating.

They went wrong somewhere, took a left where they should’ve taken a right, and maybe this turn was the one they took when they went from being friends to being boyfriends. He couldn’t imagine being without the person he loved most. The person whose smile lit up his life. The person he imagined himself growing old with. Dan was probably in the other room going over the same things in his head and maybe he had already come to a conclusion. Maybe he was going to come in any minute now to break it all into tiny little pieces in front of Phil’s eyes.

Is there any schedule of how often new challenges will be announced? I missed the fashion one by two days. :(

We try to post a challenge every two weeks (usually on Saturday), but as you might have noticed that doesn’t always happen.

As for the fashion challenge, it was meant to be a sort of “inbetween” challenge, to celebrate Phil’s merch being released. It really was just a spur-of-the-moment decision to be honest. 

We apologies for anyone who missed it, but please still feel free to write a fic about it if you feel inspired. We just won’t be able to count it for the points.

Description: Dan works at an upscale clothing store, and it’s the most abysmal environment he could have possibly gotten himself into. He sells oversized, overpriced clothes to old men trying to be cool and has the concept of “fashion” shoved down his throat on the daily. His job is stormy at best, until a ray of sunshine walks into the store named Phil.
