we need to bring back old school tumblr communication and im so serious. sending an ask to a mutual just to say hello. seeing three different asks in your inbox all asking how your dentist appointment went. seeing a post you think one of your mutuals would enjoy and tagging them/sending it to them in the dms. nowadays its just silently liking a post or (if youre feeling extreme) replying under posts. WHAT HAPPENED TO US!! we used to be a proper community!!!! #LetsBringWhimsyBack

Witch Hat Atelier by Kamome Shirahama // Wisdom to Heal the Earth by Rabbi Tzvi Freeman
Annual deer post:
If you see a fawn laying down on the ground all alone, leave it alone. It is not lost, it does not need your help, do not pick it up, do not move it.
This behavior evolved to keep deer young safe. The baby is very small, very quiet, and hard for most predators to see. A young fawn cannot keep up with a fleeing mother deer, which is their primary problem-solving strategy. So while the mother goes elsewhere to graze, the fawn stays safe and hidden. The mom will be back.
Leave the fawn alone.
This is always good to pass around this time of year, but I would like to add something for the few of us who might be encountering the moose kind of deer.
Moose are deer, but moose have the opposite strategy. They stay close to their babies, and their primary response for anything getting close to their babies is immediate violent murder. If you do see a baby moose by itself, leave. Leave the baby alone and leave the area, preferably quickly. Momma is at most 30 yards away and has already kicked on the kill bill sirens.
Hey I have a question for y'all.
From where you are right now, could you reach the nearest sea or ocean by foot in less than a day?
Yes
No

Hamza's fundraiser is currently at 66% -- that's over the halfway marker, but still far from their goal. I just donated $25 (€21), if anyone could match be I'd be forever grateful.
If you're interested in reading a big overview of ceasefire conditions, I recommend this article here by Al Jazeera.

@guooey ya
dinosaur discourse
I am going to spoil the joke under the cut, but in service of giving some additional context that makes it even funnier:
If you're having trouble telling what the difference is between the two dinos, the joke is that there is virtually no difference, save for a feature we have no actual physical evidence for (unless there's been a big update I missed, we don't have any conclusive evidence of what large therapods were colored like).
This does not stop every paleoart subreddit or twitter/bsky artist following from being full of the most utterly miserable bickering pedants having wildly disproportionate reactions to minor and purely theoretical... I can't even call them arguments. Just different ideas.
Meanwhile, the paleoartists I know from my master's program- the people who are doing the illustrations for real museums like the smithsonian and university teaching materials- are out there having fun and going "How much can I make this Tyrannosaur look like a flamingo? It's not like there's anything to suggest they were NOT bright pink :)"
Hey Gallus, as an Actual paleoartist, what do you think of this?
So my master's is in Botanical Illustration, not Paleontological Illustration, but I did Email this to my profs that would make redditors explode and they offered the following notes:
Overall: The vibes are immaculate, but Probably Not
We have some fossil evidence to suggest juvenile Rexes were downy, but adults were almost certainly not
Especially not like this, because sparrows are floofy because they're little animals that live in temperate climates with cold winters, and T-Rex was a Very Large Animal living in tropical climates. It did not need the insulation.
That's a pose a T-rex could strike but not it's natural habit. The artist has also fudged the proportions a bit, in a very plausible way so always double-check your measurements and reference sources to make sure you're not making stuff up
T-rex would have had no need for flight feathers like depicted on the wings and tail, and it comes from earlier in the evolutionary tree than flighted dinosaurs so it wouldn't have them vestigially either
HOWEVER:
It's extremely valid and compelling to consider how feathering might have radically changed the silhouettes, especially in terms of camouflage and insulation for some of the smaller and midsize dinosaurs
Patterning and cryptic camouflage are also very valid interpretations, even on a giant non-aquatic predator, because a ton of animals are paler on the underside
The little bright cheek puffs are something that might have shown up as skin pigmentation, esp given that Rexes had extremely good vision and probably fairly sociable so communicative coloration would be a very valid and reasonable choice
They think its very cute and funny and they're all emailing this image to each other and printing it to put it on office doors
I'd like to address these tags by @eclipseyeger real fast:
YOU ABSOLUTELY DO NOT NEED A MASTERS DEGREE TO BE A SCIENTIFIC ILLUSTRATOR!!
I don't actually have one! What I have is a master's certification of botanical illustration from the Denver Botanic Garden's Illustration Program. It's not an accredited degree, but it is just as if not more respected as a master's degree from a university. And a hell of a lot cheaper! I just call it a master's because it gets the concept across and is shorter to type.
And I don't technically need that! Anyone can take on an art commission for scientific purposes! Anyone can join any of the illustration guilds regardless of education! There are people with no formal art training making a living at this because all you actually need is a strong portfolio and the ability to network.
To that end, I recommend at least some formal art training and classes in how to draw with the kind of accuracy educational institutions are expecting, to build the skills necessary and to meet fellow illustrators, because 90% of the commissions you get come from your fellow sci ill people recommending you to a client because they're booked.
But yeah, you can just jump right in! Email the paleontology department of a university with your portfolio! Hand out business cards to grad students looking to spruce up a paper! Join an Illustration guild! There is no gatekeeping here, we are actively trying to herd new people in!!
Hey by the way if you're an American and you're against the war, it's your duty to call out the shit that is insane and monstrous and wrong.
If someone says something that you know to be wrong, say something. Push back on it. Iran didn't start this war. They haven't been at war with the US for forty seven years. The US didn't have to support Israel's strikes with this kind of escalation (we haven't in the past, in fact Trump hasn't in the past). The Iranian people are not looking to the US as liberators. The Strait of Hormuz was always going to be used tactically in this way, it is absurd to suggest that the Iran would open it because it is the single best method of leverage they have to resist annihilation from a superpower. Bombing civilian infrastructure is a war crime. Saying that an entire culture will be destroyed is genocidal.
There is no moral reason for the US to do this, the reasons that the US is doing this are oil and to destabilize the region. Hubris, cruelty, and a vile old man who wants to give himself a hero's legacy play a part as well.
You should be saying out loud to the people around you "This war is unjust, unnecessary, and cruel, and every reason our leaders are giving us to tell us why we're doing it is a lie."
People should know you feel this way. Some people will feel the same way, and it will be good for you and for them to know that you're not alone. Some people will NOT feel this way and it will be good for them to know that there are people all around them who haven't bought into the violent propaganda of empire.
Simple things to say to push back:
There is no justification for bombing water and power infrastructure for ninety million people; that will kill thousands of civilians and is a war crime.
Iran was bombed while they were negotiating with the countries that bombed them; they were willing to make the agreements requested by the US and Israel before they were bombed.
The Strait was open in February. If the US and Israel hadn't attacked Iran there would have been no reason for Iran to close it.
You can't be an "imminent threat" for forty seven years, so either Trump is lying about the immanency or is lying about Iran being at war with us for half a century.
Canada too. Lean on your local politicians, show up to a protest, it'll take you 2 minutes to send an email! These are human lives on the line.
it fucking sucks being a disabled person who can't work and having to see these fuckass posts where someone's like "ahaha jobless people have no life and that's why everyone shitty online has No Job" and everyone and their mother reblogs it joyfully onto my dash for me to see. yes unemployed and unemployable people are truly without exception dogshit people with no hobbies and no redeeming qualities. you're so right. anyway if you'll excuse me i have to start my shift at the I'll Never Be Employed Because Of Permanent Disability And I Love Knowing How You Really See Me store
if ur able to work can u reblog this i am seriously SO sick of it.
btw this isn't solely a disability rights issue or an issue about people who are entirely unable to work. you should also be thinking about the people who are regarded as unhireable. transfems are hugely discriminated against in this way, people of color are passed over for less qualified white people, anyone who has any difficulty playing the interview game is less hireable... frankly anyone who made the mistake of pursuing the things they love and now has a degree for a niche field. if you still joke about Jobless People it's because you've fundamentally connected the worth of people to their labor, and specific labor, work that you see as valuable. and while i'm at it stop making fun of people who still live with their parents. asshole.
Reblogs off - you bitches are annoying.
