“Since that was a game that Satoru Iwata programmed himself, this could have been intended as a way of saying that Iwata is spiritually a part of every Switch and is watching over and protecting every system.”

Oh my God, so hackers have found out the way to enable you to play the game. You know how?

On July 11th*, the date of Iwata’s passing, doing Iwata’s “directly to you” motion with the Joy-Cons on the home screen will play a sound clip of Iwata and launch the game.

(* Before you try this yourself, note that simply changing the date on your system will not work, as this runs off the Switch’s internal internet-synced clock, meaning that changing the date manually will only work if the system has never been connected to the internet)

It goes even further than that.

Firstly, opening the game like this person is in the video is only possible with a brand new unit on system version 1.0.0 that has never been connected to the Internet. Because of this, opening it is pretty hard to replicate, unless if you have a completely brand new Switch. So, even if the system’s internal date is on July 11, it still won’t open if the system version is up to date.

The thing is, it’s not supposed to be opened.

The hidden Golf game has been described as an omamori, which, in Japanese culture, is a charm usually bought at shrines that offers spiritual protection and good luck if you keep it close to you. Sometimes they’re made of cloth, and look like a tiny bag, which can contain a written prayer. People often tie them to something like a purse or a backpack, so that it’s always with them. Here are a bunch of different ones:

Omamori are not supposed to be opened, as doing so is said to remove its blessing.

Seeing as the hidden Golf game on the Switch is so difficult to run under normal circumstances, it’s probably not supposed to be opened in the first place. It’s likely meant to represent an omamori in Iwata’s honor. Its very fitting, because of how portable the Switch is, since people are likely to take it with them like they would with an omamori strapped to a purse or backpack.

Hey, everyone. Since we’re now in July and this post is still making the rounds, I’m sure there are people who are going to want to try to activate the Golf game on their Switch on the 11th. So I wanted to provide an update to this:

All of the files of Golf in the Switch system were removed in an update back in late December.

As @lunarhalo24 helpfully pointed out, this inclusion of Golf in the Switch system was meant to be an omamori, a blessing from Iwata. And there’s another important cultural thing about omamori to note here:

An omamori’s blessing is only good until the end of the year, after which it expires and the omamori is traditionally disposed of in a sacred fire. So the files being deleted at the end of last year seems as though it was symbolic of the blessing’s time expiring.

So yes, there is now almost no way to actually access it. Because it was never meant to be accessed.

If you're currently in a situation where purchasing a kamidana is impossible, are makeshift kamidana/altars okay?

Yes! Basically the most important thing isn’t so much the kamidana itself, but an item called an “Ofuda” this is the item that calls to the kami’s energy and essence. Usually this is a sacred mirror, or something called a gohei. If you make a gohei you have to purify yourself first. In the same manner as the ofuda, take a bath and purify your physical body, and rinse your mouth. Get dressed as well and get ready as if you were going out.Second, you have to purify the paper you will use for the gohei. Put a pinch of salt on the paper itself, and pray. You do not have to recite the whole Oharae no Kotoba, but chant saying “Oharae tamae, Kiyome tamae" 3 times.Since this will act as the vessel for the Kami, it has to be treated with the utmost respect and be purified properly. You should practice with scrap paper before making a legitimate one. When you make a real one, please treat it like a serious ritual/ceremony, not  a craft project or origami. It’s for your Kami-sama, not your own personal use, so we have to be careful. Learn how to make gohei here (diagram) and this video  *note  the person is being a little rougher in the video as it is for demonstrative purposes* Sometimes a gemstone is used too as a yorishiroFor either a gemstone or sacred mirror, leaving them in the sunlight, sprinkling salt around them, and chanting Oharae tamae kiyome tamae 3 times is good before ritual use - but after they cannot be used for anything else but as a yorishiro for the kami. In the case of lacking an ofuda for your kami-sama, or unable to obtain a new one for Japan, the above is also helpful.

If you feel uncomfortable to use a yorishiro such as a gohei or other object, a framed artwork or depiction of the kami is fine as well. But when possible, it is always better to obtain the ofuda of the Kami yearly. These are in difficult scenarios and outside of Japan situations. Once you have an ofuda or yorishiro, you only need to offer water, uncooked rice, salt, and sake in front of the yorishiro or ofuda. always consume the offerings after, or use them for cooking, plants, etc. don’t throw them away. always keep the altar high or at least above chest height, and clean and bright. Skyview Spring Bath Spell

A bath spell for healing and purification.

The Skyview Spring is a sacred spring where the spirit maiden Zelda had to purify her body in order to reclaim the memories of Hylia. It also has restorative properties, as evidenced by the subquest given to the Hero by the water dragon Faron, who needed it to heal the injuries inflicted by the demon lord Ghirahim.

What you’ll need:

Moon water

Powdered Milk* (health, prosperity)

Roses or lavender (healing, purification)

Chamomile or Green tea. Loose leaf, or empty a teabag (healing, purification, calming)

Pink Salt, sea salt is okay (healing, purification)

Cheesecloth, muslin, coffee filter or a tea ball to hold everything

1 red (Din), 1 blue (Nayru), 1 green (Farore) and 1 purple candle (Hylia), or four white candles to represent the goddesses. Alternatively, you can have one pink candle to call on the Great Fairy instead.**

Theme for Skyview Spring, Great Fairy Fountain, or the Sealed Temple

Combine all your dry ingredients together into your cheesecloth. Run the bath water, adding the moon water first. Then add your cheesecloth bag. While it steeps, light your candles, asking for each of the Goddesses blessings (be fire safe!). Turn on your music, and then get in. Release whatever is troubling you and enjoy.

*you can use liquid milk or a milk alternative, simply add after the moon water

**You can use gemstones instead of candles. Use ones that correspond to the Goddesses elements, fire, water, earth and air. Rose quartz or another pink stone can be used for the Great Fairy.

I’m a closet witch with a roommate and rough to metaphysical communication and companions, but I offer a suggestion.

Get some earphones, plug the one with the mic in your ear and connect it to your phone so you don’t look silly, and then chat to your companions and friends as if they were a human calling.

This might be helpful for those who want to chat or strengthening your bond, since sometimes it’s easier to not forget them if you’re actively talking to them more (I forget thoughts a little more easily than conversations).

And even those who feel like they might be losing their ability or hearing their friends, this might be just helpful. For instance, sometimes, even maybe you can’t hear them fully, but for my friends, sometimes it’s just nice for us to nod and enjoy company while the other one handles the conversation. So there’s nothing wrong with talking with them even if their voice and connection is a bit muddled.

Go on a walk together with them and don’t worry about someone who might call you out for talking to air, you’re on a call with someone important!!

What To Do

Make sure you’re in a place where you can see the moon for this to work properly.

Pour your moon water into the bowl.

Place all the herbs in and let them soak in the water for a bit.

If you want physical healing drip red wax into the bowl, if you want emotional healing drip blue wax in the bowl, if you want both drip both waxes into the bowl.

Place the poppet into the bowl of water so it’s floating while the song plays.

Chant/Sing/Think  “Day to night, dark to light, Fall the sands of time. Let the years like the gears Of a clock unwind In your mind walk through time Back to better days. Memories, like a dream, Wash tears away. Like a star in the sky, Darkness can’t reach you Light the night, joy is light, Till the new dawn. Let the poppet soak all the herbs over night and then let it try in a dark place where the moon water’s healing energies cannot be dissipated. (The poppet drying represents the healing process)

Bubble (Pokemon Inspired)

A spell to send your wishes out into the universe to seek for them to be answered and granted.

You Will Need:

💦 Liquid Bubbles (preferably with a bubble wand but not needed) 💦 Sage leaves 💦 Outside area to work

Steps:

💦 Set up your space outside. Fill a bowl with your bubbles

💦 Use your sage to swirl and stir up the bubbles clockwise, focusing on your desire to make a wish and for it to come true one day

💦 Carefully remove sage and dip in your bubble wand (if you don’t have one you can use your thumb and pointer finger)

💦 Look at the liquid formed in the wand and whisper to yourself your wish

💦 Take a deep breath and blow, releasing the bubbles. While doing so imagine your energy and wishes blowing into the bubbles.

💦 Watch them float away and don’t stress when they pop, instead image that when the bubbles pop releasing your intentions into the unvirse

Three pieces of white twine

What to do:

During the spell, keep in mind “Purification in process”

Soak twine in sugar water. Let dry.

Name each piece Alpha, Omega, and Epsilon

Tie rosemary, sage, and wormwood around poppet 

Put into burning pit, fireplace, etc.

In your mind or aloud, say “Adversaries purified.”

Ashes can be collected for future use.

Curse Decoy

An empty shell to take the brunt of any curse thrown your way

What you will need:  - A poppet  - A photo/picture of your own face  - Scissors  - A target  - A blessed nail  - Black salt

Construct during a new moon.   For at least an hour beforehand, submerge the nail in black salt. Take the picture of your face and cut out the eyes.  This is meant to look like you, without being you.  With a pin/tape/glue, attach it to the face of the poppet.   Draw or attach a target over the poppet’s belly or heart.  As you do so, speak:

My empty soldier with no heart Tonight your mission is to start Slings and arrows aimed at me Take it all and do not flee

When done, insert the nail into the bulls-eye.  Leave out where no one will touch it.  Create a new poppet at each new moon as needed

Substitute Spell

A decoy to take the brunt of misfortune for you

What you will need:  - A poppet   - Cascarilla powder  - A strand of your hair  - A blessed nail

Wrap your hair around the nail and insert it into the poppet.  Leave some of it sticking out, like a lightning rod.  Place the poppet where it will not be disturbed and create a ring around it with the powder.  

Proclaim: “I have cast Substitute.  It will take damage from those who oppose.”

Since this takes less energy, it needs to be recast more often.  Replace after 1 week, as needed.

Blood Moon Curse

To have a problem return to the target, over and over and over again

What you will need:  - Moon water  - Iron or rust  - Three prong fidget spinner  - Pen and paper and tape

Soak the iron in the moon water.  On the paper, write or draw symbols for Waxing, Full, and Waning.  Attach them to the spinner prongs.  In the center, write the target’s name.  

Place a drop of the water on the papers and spin the spinner clockwise.  Recite:

Over and over and over Again and again and again May your troubles return Keeping peace outside your grasp

Cleanse the spinner afterwards.
