You have to think carefully when making a decision. Being sad about choosing what we love versus being sad about choosing something we don't love are 2 very different things.
Daddy Han, Kiss Me
This show broke my heart so much into pieces that it canât be fix.
Feelings donât stack into nice, neat little boxes that you can categorize and file away â theyâre messy and pointy and squishy, and they donât behave how you want them to.
LollyPip of Dramabeans, on The Lucky Romance Episode 10.
Both professionals and amateurs, they all make mistakes. An amateur blames the world, but a professional takes time in reflecting on themselves. Time which an amateur like you wouldnât dare to think about.
Anthony, King of Drama.
Youâre a fish from the great depths: blind and luminous. Youâre swimming in troubled waters with the modern worldâs rage, but in the frail poetry of another era.
Hubert Minel, J'ai tué ma mÚre.
There is no other place to rest that is more comfortable than in your arms, now I regret it sometimes when I breathe next to the pillow you used.
-Simon Dominic, You Always 2016.
Sometimes, not wanting to do anything is proof that we are still alive. When you're emotionally overwhelmed by feeling insignificant and stressed, try to resolve it visually. Sometimes, searching for our overly dulled sense of visual beauty and not forgetting about it can be such a huge honor and blessing.
Choi Seunghyun's reply for a fan on instagram (english translation by bigbanggisvip).
Photographs are so ironically impermanent. They capture one moment in time to perfection. A painting can capture eternity
Dorian Gray, Penny Dreadful.
Dear Vanessa, your many kindnesses I will always carry with me. Such generosity has not been part of my life, and I thank you for your affection and understanding. In my most frightened and lonely moments you were there. And such light you brought to me. But I am made for the dark. This we both know. I am fit for only one place and should have been there long ago. Deep in the cold clay on a forgotten hill. Your road may be difficult, but mine is doomed. So we walk alone. Written with love, Ethan.
Ethanâs letter to Vanessa, Penny Dreadful Season 2.
Let's talk about love. How does love rewire the brain? When we meet somebody new and exciting, they invade our synapses like a virus, triggering neurochemicals that feed into attraction, arousal, even obsession. We get distracted. We think about that special someone all the time, even in the middle of a brilliantly stimulating lecture. But we're not just thinking about them. We're building an internal model A simulation that helps us predict what they'll think or how they'll feel. Of course, relationships get into trouble when the simulation meets reality. Which begs the question... do we ever really fall in love with another person, or just with our idea of who they are?
From Perception, the tv series.
Before I Sleep.
Whose woods these are I think I know. His house is in the village though; He will not see me stopping here To watch his woods fill up with snow. The woods are lovely, dark and deep, But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep. -Robert Frost, Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening.
Someone who can lie to themselves is lonely..and in pain.
The Blind Spot
Every time we open our eyes, light shines onto our retina. Nerve cells called Photoreceptors interpret the light, transmit the information to our brain, and that's how we see. But there's a small area on our retina where there are no Photoreceptors. This is called a Scotoma, or blind spot. So if that's true, how is it that we never notice a black area in our field of vision? The reason you never notice your blind spot, is because your brain is great at guessing what should be there. And automatically filling in the blank. Sometimes we know what we want to see. And our neocortex turns that expectation into a kind of virtual reality. Which means that some of the world we see is really just an illusion. A scary thought when you consider how vulnerable that makes us. So how do we uncover our blind spots? How do we ever fully see the truth that's right in front of our eyes? A good place to start is to simply open your mind. Because as the french philosopher Henri Bergson said, "The eye sees only what the mind is prepared to comprehend." From Perception, the tv series.
Theory of Everything, 2014.
For a long while now, I've suspected that connection with another person, real connection, simply isn't possible. I'm curious if you disagree, although I suspect you feel as I do in this, as you do in so many other things. So tell me: is it possible to truly know another person? Is it even a worthwhile pursuit?
