it's 9 weeks til freshers' week and I am getting in the zone

I've only got 19 days left at work, then I'm a free agent for the best part of the month, including a little break with my parents and our dogs down south (including going to a donkey sanctuary, iconic). Starting to think about what I want to get out of this first year of my PhD... I'm funded for four so I don't feel immense pressure to start producing versus consuming, but I know I really want to focus on my pedagogical skills and really get the hang of teaching. I've been assigned a first-year intro class so it's broad and vague, which is great because it's been a long time since I covered some of the content. Just hoping I get an enthusiastic bunch because there's nothing worse than a dead seminar

After watching a random celebrity “What’s in Your Bag?” video, I got curious (or maybe just nosy, lol) and started asking everyone the same question. So, what’s in your bag? Or, if you’re not the type to carry one, what’s in your pockets?

I don't think I carry anything particularly unusual in my bag (besides copious quantities of prescription drugs), but I have just got a new bag in anticipation of my phd!! it's from seventeen london and it's great!! got a big, padded laptop sleeve, a handy zip at the back so you can reach into the main body (which is useful as i'm tube fed so have to tote around a pump and attach myself accordingly), and LOTS of pockets for organisation. highly recommend!!

Do I resurrect this blog?

I start my PhD in October, and like... I feel like I want to start this tumblr again. I can't guarantee it'll be consistent but is the academia corner of tumblr still alive??

I am still alive! Just about! The past few months have been... precarious health-wise and I’ve been clawing my way through my Master’s. Just tryna reach the end in one physical piece, y’know? Low bars, low bars. However, I am somehow averaging a distinction so like... we roll. But still here, still kickin’!
