Without words (actors)
I thought that the actors were quite good yet some seemed to 'over act.' I also didn't understand what was meant to be going on although I assume that their inspiration involved a person being on their own, because the majority of the groups showed this. I didn't understand why one group used umbrellas, becuase they made the performance even harder to understand. It was a prop error when one of the umbrellas broke, as it spoiled the performance a bit. I would like to say that I enjoyed without word, but it was just too confusing for me.
Stalingrad Review
I thought that the show was extremely good, the actors, the set, lighting music, it was brilliant. As I walked into the auditorium I was blown away by how good the set looked. From briefly seeing it before the show, I thought the set looked quite good. However in the actual show, the set was transformed into a war torn city. The first thing that I noticed was the Germans flag hanging on the set. I thought that it looked very effective because it makes the audience understand that there is a war going on even before the play had started. The overall story line was one of the only problems that I had with Stalingrad, this is because I didn't make that much sense. It seemed that there was too many separate stories going on. On the other hand I thought that the acting was great, It seemed as if the actors were genuinely scared and emotional. I thought that the old lady character was quite good, I imagine that it is quite hard to act a lot older than your true age, but the actress pulled it off and was the most comical character in the show. The music was excellent, I thought that it worked well with the show and added more effect. If I had one problem with the sound, it is that the clicking of the watch was out of time with the actor, I don't know if it was deliberate or not, but it wasn't that good. I, unlike others, don't think that the smoke was overused as it created a feel that there was a war going on. Finally I thought that the first scene of the second half with the battle was very good, the flags gave the scene more effect but I didn't understand the Germany strange dancing. Overall it was a very good show, and I can't wait for the next one.
