Horizon (a show on BBC2) gave three reasons why individuals are fat and simply telling people to eat less and exercise more is overly simplistic; I knew this already. Some people are naturally overweight because they have a slow metabolism and absorb more fat (they did hint that it could be connected to birth weight), hormone fat people (I reckon I'm on of these) , this is where the hormones that control the feeling of hunger and the feeling of full are different to what you expect, this change is caused by changing eating habits, for example, eating more food than you need. In a normal weight person, there hunger hormone will spike and then when they eat food it will go down drastically. In an overweight person i will only go up slightly and then down slightly, thus having the continued feeling of hunger which leads to them (me) eating more food. Then there are addicted fat people. These tend to be the super over weight people. From an EGC (or whatever they call, you know the one, you go into the machine that looks like a tunnel and then magnets zap your brain). Well their brains light up when they see pictures of food, in the same way an alcoholic or drug addict would if they saw a pint of larger and a bag of cocaine.
