emma scoffed. “ well aren’t you quite the lively one this morning? lip this early in the day miss grey? tell me, how does such a little accomplishment feel? ” she snapped back, smirking when the redhead finally agreed. “ there. wasn’t so hard now – was it? ”

              “ MY TRICK IS tapping into morning jogger’s thoughts. Very motivating. It’s like a psychological ‘ get up, girl !! ’ playlist. ” Jean rose narrow shoulders in a shrug. “ No  h a r d e r  than making those costumes NON-SEXUALISED and COMFORTABLE for women, apparently. ” When would she be allowed to fight injustice in jeans and a shirt?? “ Hey, Frost, have you pitched this to Scott yet?? I can’t decide whether he’s going to be nerd stoked or  w h i n e y  apprehensive. ”

               Jean had fallen asleep, IN PUBLIC. Embarrassment seeped in whilst she blinked herself to complete consciousness. Then anger ( directed at herself ) and next, DREAD. Every corner of the city seemed CRAWLING with Sentinels and Purifiers. “ Excuse me, sorry, what time is it?? WHAT STREET IS THIS?? ”

emma watched the young redhead walk over to the table and grab her tea, taking a slow sip. the blonde’s hands fell to her hips and rose a brow, shaking her head. “ miss grey, i’m fine. and it’s actually perfectly fine for me to be up this early. now —— will you let me give you a new uniform? ”

               “ NO, EMMA, ” Jean begun to clarify, amusement seeping into her lips and eyes and voice. “ I don’t mean it’s too early for YOU. Rather, it’s too early for ME to be dealing with you. ” A sigh of  d e f e a t  left the twenty year old, and she reluctantly nodded her head. “ I will let you give me a new uniform. SATISFIED?? ”

“their fear is understandable, i’m not denying that. what i’m saying is that its unfair to those of that have caused humans no harm. though i will villify the movement, was it another other politician i’d be more open to the possibility if it but its not, its the most anti-mutant politician in history. i’m not sure if you remember or not but he made  a platform on how we’re abominations against god and how we’ll be punished with hellfire. is that someone you want leading anything that has to do with our people?”

“We have done everything we can to separate ourselves from the actions of Magneto, have denounced him time and time again, yet we’re still lumped together simply because we fall into the same race of people. Its time that they all answer for what they’ve done, Magneto, Stryker, Trask—-all of them. If we don’t stop it now Jean, I fear that we’ll have millions of good people turned against us. I fear that soon it’ll be an even harsher world for us to live in, one that may never come around to seeing how mutants truly are if these acts go through.” 

               EVEN AS AN OPTIMIST, Scott’s fears were ones she herself shared. “ I don’t want Trask, or Stryker, leading anything.  E v e r.  ” Jean had come a long way since the teenage girl who thought herself a monster, a creature of DEATH and DESTRUCTION. Having ‘ abomination ’ thrown in her face, still, however, had the power to dredge up all of it. A surface show of levelheadedness played down anger she harboured for those two men well. It DIDN’T, however, mean it’s nonexistence. 

              “ Okay. OKAY. I’m... I’m with you. I’m not saying I’m going to mark myself on either side, or that I agree with you entirely: but I’M WITH YOU. So, ” Jean drew a peel of air deep into her lungs and released, “ how,  e x a c t l y,  are we going to stop them, Scott Summers?? ”

“ believe it or not – whether we’re fighting the others or lounging around we need to keep up an image. something to let’s say – put up an illusion that we’re not phased by what’s happening. that we’re in control. ” emma smirked and ‘booped’ the young redhead on her nose. “ also it helps us look uniformed like and actual team? ”

              UNIFORMED and an ACTUAL TEAM?? Jean was there. Unfortunately, the booping of her nose was where the fellow mutant  l o s t  her. A long moment proceeded wherein she stood, blank faced and blinking. Finally, Jean plucked her cup of tea from the counter. She settled on a neutral smile. “ Something’s just now occurred to me, Frost. It’s FAR TOO EARLY in the morning for you. ”

“i’m not saying that you have to agree with all mutants actions, am i? i said that if you openly support the forced registration of mutants or even just let it happen, then you’re against us. have you ever heard of the milgram experiment jean? what happens when people are told to just follow orders blindly?” he asked, crossing his arms over his chest. “a majority of the time they do it, no questions asked and with no thought of the harm its doing to other people. now is that potential power you’d like wielded over us?” 

               “ Well, no, OF COURSE NOT. ” Jean was  u n w i l l i n g  to be under anyone’s thumb, be it Charles, the government, or anyone in between. Being used, CONTROLLED, never sat well with her. “ Nor do I support the act. BUT I UNDERSTAND IT. I can see why humans are afraid of us. I can’t vilify a whole movement, for OR against; because the people amongst either have just cause to be afraid or indignant. ” The mutant lowered herself into a seat. 

               “ There are those of US, that have tried to slaughter, or enslave, or whatever the new modus operandi is, all of THEM, too, Scott. It’s the EXTREMISTS, the leaders, the ALL or NOTHING kinds I want vilified. People like Trask and Stryker, and, it’s painful to say this, people like Magneto. Because, yes, I’m familiar with Milgram, and  Y E S,  those men who can’t see reason will be followed, ” she pursed and un-pursed her lips, “ unless, they’re STOPPED. ”
