August didn’t know whether being back in Atlanta was good or bad. The streets seemed less welcoming to him or maybe that was his own mind tossing thoughts around. Getting away for two weeks helped ease the burden of his losses, but not enough to feel completely better. It was merely a distraction from facing what he was forcing deeper within. He roamed the streets with hands tucked in his pockets and his eyes not daring to meet anyone elses’. Was he in the mood for conversation? Not particularly, but he had a feeling he wouldn’t be able to avoid it. When people disappeared in Atlanta, there was a tendency to notice, especially those of the mythical kind.
Stepping out of Arden's Garden with her juice in hand, Phoebe started to walk around. She had no real desination in mind, just a random walk before getting back home. That was when she sensed the familiar Munnin, it had been weeks since she'd seen him. She couldn't really blame him for taking the high road and leaving when he did. "Why the hell did you come back?" Phoebe asked, stopping in front of him, not beating around the bush.
Eva sensed the Harpy right after she spoke, her extra special reaction times having slowed due to pregnancy hormones. Uncertain of whether she was glad to see the woman or not, she decided to play along with the small joke. “That’s always a possibility, though I’m hoping it’s only a temporary affliction.” It had been months since the two has spoken or even seen one another. The Siren tried to remember if they’d had any contact since Phoebe had convinced her not to nix the pregnancy in the bud. Her mind was too clouded, though, and so she gave up in favor of speaking again. She hadn’t missed the other woman’s attention to her belly, and it didn’t seem as if she wanted to touch it. From what she knew of the Harpy she took a stab in the dark. “It’s alright, you can tell me I’m huge. You look like you want to. Trust me, I’m aware of it.”
Phoebe chuckled and shrugged. “I don’t know. I mean how many times have you thought your mother was crazy?” Giving the Siren a pointed look as if that proved her theory, she smiled lightly. The last time she’d seen Eva was probably when she she met her parents and that in of itself was an awkward situation. Phoebe snorted, “You’re a ballon,” she said simply, shrugging. “But once that kid’s out, you’ll be back. Speaking of which, when are you popping?”
With a bit of difficulty and a heavy sigh Eva lowered herself down onto a bench. It was a beautiful day and she was not about to spend it inside. A text from her mother had brought new thoughts spinning through her mind. It had been a little over a year since she had packed up her life and moved to Atlanta. A year since she had begun the spiral downwards that had led her to where she sat now. A year since she had met Alex, and Phoebe, and Chloe, and Julian, and Colin. She still thought about the Leprechaun often, missing her friend and the laughs he always inspired. It had been a year since she had begun this life, and now she felt cemented to this city. Atlanta was home now, and where she would raise her son. Before long he would be here, gracing the world with a beautiful smile. Anticipation filled her and she laughed without realizing it. Someone passing heard her and glanced over their shoulder at her. “Life can be a funny thing.” She offered the sentence as explanation.
It felt stuffy in her apartment and she needed some air. Phoebe had given Angel the space she needed just like she'd done for her months ago. Now, she found herself walking around Freedom Park. She should really socialize more, get out but that was hard when more than half of the people around her made her want to bash her - or their- head into a wall. Sensing the siren before hearing her laugh, she looked over at her. Eva looked huge but even she knew it wasn't something you tell a pregnant woman. Phoebe cocked an eyebrow looking at the siren, a small smile playing on her lips. "Nah, I'm going with that baby making you go crazy."
Katherine tried to keep her fluffy little dog from trying to escape and picked her up in her arms. She shifted slightly as she tried to talk to Phoebe. It was a task that honestly was easier said than done as the little dog tried to nip at her. ” Yes better than a car. ” She replied with a half smile before shrugging. ” Her name is Trouble. It’s pretty fitting to be completely honest. I’ve been worse. Thing’s are slowly starting to feel normal again, well as normal as possible around here. How about you?”
Phoebe chuckled lightly and looked at the ball of fluff. "If your so sure..." she teased and laughed openly at the dog's name. "Trouble, that's fitting for sure." She hummed at bit when Katherine mentioned things starting to feel like normal. Where they? From an outsider's perspective nothing really had happened other than what they saw on TV but everyone was so disconnected they didn't realize it was reality not some made up show. "Eh, I'm alright. Nothing going on really. Waiting to see what's next to come." Phoebe didn't truly believe things got progressively better, she believed there were light periods followed by dark.
Talos grimaced a bit at the expression she wore at his greeting - or lack there of. “Honestly I struggle to understand what anyone wants anymore,” he answered in a lazy sort of tone, stepping back from the door after a moment when he sensed she wasn’t about to turn round and disappear even if he wanted her to. “Would texting have convinced you that I was physically whole? If so then perhaps you should have considered it,” he answered, though even so he waved a hand as if to invite her in if she desired to, stepping away from the door. “It is nice to hear you care though. I was beginning to wonder.”
"Because I want something from you, right?" She shot back and stepped through the threshold of the home. Closing the door behind her, Phoebe looked at Talos and chewed on the inside of her cheek. "You were beginning to wonder? I'm sorry I didn't run to you right after. I'm sorry I thought you needed space. Let me go ahead and crowd you after everything. Is that what you want, Talos?" She spoke sarcastically, using her hands as she did so.
The young satyr let out a sigh over having to chase such a small thing. Relief hit her though as soon as Trouble stopped in front of a familiar face. Katherine picked up her pace and she approached Phoebe with a half smile on her face. ” She wont pee on anything. She a pain in the ass sometimes, but she’s better than that. ” Katherine replied before picking up the small dog in her arms. ” At least she ran to you and not in front of a car, That’d be my luck. Long time no see.”
Phoebe rose her brows looking at Katherine. She didn't peg her for a dog person but know that she saw the Satyr with the furball, she could definitely see her with it. "Really? Better me than a car?" If the thing had kept milling around her, she was going to end up giving it a good kick. But Katherine didn't need to know that. "Yeah, how's everything? This thing, what's it's name?"
She already felt terrible for kicking the person, but her mood changed from guilt to fear in an instant. “Oh, um, Phoebe,” She sputtered out as she once more tried to make herself comfortable in her seat. This time she had a feeling it wasn’t going to be as easy moving around on the stool. “No…I…why would I have done that?” Fíona tried to recover from her obvious surprise at seeing the Harpy. However, she wondered if she would have left if she had noticed Phoebe there. The other woman had made it very clear that she wasn’t happy with her for what happened with Alex and honestly, she didn’t blame her. She was still distraught over how she had treated him. If she thought it would have helped, she would have gone to see him, but she was respecting the Satyr’s wishes to leave him alone. She hoped that maybe after some time they would both be in a better place. “It’s nice to see you.” She added with as much of a smile as she could muster.
She didn't have to be a Satyr to sense the fear coming off of the Leshy when she realized Phoebe was there. Good. Giving her a look that read 'oh, please', she decided not to bother replying to her question. She scoffed a laugh and sneered at her. "I'm sure it is. That's why you haven't even attempted to get the talk over with. No worries, we can have it right now," she said signalling to the bartender to refill her glass. "Here's a start, you want to throw tantrums. Stomp your foot and ask for attention, go find Le Stryge. I'm sure he'll be more than happy to deal with your bullshit." Phoebe said referring to Paul as the Notre Dame Cathedral gargoyle in a matter-of-fact tone of voice.
"You are like the fourth person to give that reaction." he laughed smally at her reaction even though he detected the sarcasm. Everyone he had met who asked what he did seemed to think it was very interesting for some reason. He didn’t really know why. Colin took another drink as she finished hers. "You can call me Cub if you like," he said. "But maybe just don’t tell anyone why," he whispered and then let a small, quiet but audible, growl rumble through his chest.
He followed her gaze to the TV and saw that the news was still playing the same story. Wasn’t there anything else happening in the world that was worth reporting? When she turned to him to speak he looked back at her. “Well there’s honor in that” he replied to her admission to being related to the mythic behind the raid, Alex. “Family is important to some.” Being an orphan and always moving around Colin didn’t share that feeling.
"Oh you know, people are so amused with knowing someone who can build things. Mostly so they can take advantage of them." She spoke with a shrug. Knowing not everyone wanted to take advantage, most really were interested in how things were built. She personally didn't quite care. Phoebe let out a loud laugh at his low rumble. Glancing at him through her peripheral as she shook her head and grinned. "That'll be our little secret. Don't you worry."
The Harpy glanced at the TV once again and nodded once. True, there was honor, and pride, but that put the target on his back that much more prominent. "Eh, there's more to family than just blood," she said before finishing off her drink and pushing it to the bartender. "But that's as much as I'm sharing tonight." Phoebe flagged down guy behind the bar to get her tab as she pulled her card from her wallet and passed it to him.
It had been ample enough time for Katherine to make a full recovery, yet you still couldn’t recover from experiences. So, Katherine did what she had always done best. She pretended. From the outside, she assumed no one would notice that she had been recovering from a gun shot wound. That they wouldn’t see past the perfectly selected clothes and hair and realize that she was acting like things were fine. Inside she was still a mess, but on the outside Katherine thought she looked fabulous as she walked around the park, finally able to give Trouble some fresh air. All that was needed was time and Katherine knew she’d be back to the way she once was before. Her fluffy white dog had other idea’s and soon Trouble had gotten unattached from her leash and went running off. Katherine knew she’d catch the little fur-ball, but she still didn’t feel like chasing it in front of strangers. It was almost embarrassing for her to do.
Lunch outside seemed like her best option after feeling like she was suffocating at Logos. The part-timers were getting on her nerves, laughing over something stupid they saw on facebook. After she snatched them away and snarling at them to get back to work, she told Alex she was going out for a bit and handed him the phones. Phoebe found herself parked by Inman Park and grabbing the paper bag with a sub inside, she went to sit on a bench. It wasn't long after she started eating when she noticed a fluffy dog milling around her. "Hey you, shoo. Go on, get. You better not pee on me you little shit. I'm not sharing, now leave."
Talos hadn’t actively been trying to avoid any one thing or person in particular, he just hadn’t had much of an appetite for social encounters and frankly wasn’t fond of seeing more than a small handful of people. So he was staying home with the kids as much as he could, spending his time in the company of those like Lily and Alex rather than on the streets of Atlanta. As much as he was a man who craved social interaction regularly he had had his fill of it over the past couple of weeks, especially those that involved sympathetic glances in his direction or consoling words that meant nothing in the long run. Everyone was out to save their own asses these days, it seemed. Talos sensed the Harpy before she reached the door but the pounding of her fist against the wood still made him tense just from the volume of the noise against his ears. He glowered at the door, debating on if he wanted to leave her stranded out there or not. Alex had probably given her a key, he deduced, but even so she probably would figure out a way inside if she truly wanted in. Though if he left her out there she would probably keep pounding her hand against the door for a while and it was already beginning to put him on edge. Shuffling across the room to the door he twisted the lock and pulled it open, stepping back. ”What? What do you want?”
Phoebe rose an unamused brow at his lack of greeting and looked at the Gryphon. "To ask for a cup of sugar, Talos. What do you think I want?" She rolled her eyes and crossed her arms over her chest. The Harpy was worried, of course, having been through whatever he did at that damned camp wasn't something he'd get over soon and not seeing him around rose something in her. "Haven't seen you at the shop, wanted to see you were physically whole. Guess I should have just texted, huh?" Phoebe hadn't stepped inside just yet, having leaned against the door jamb.
Days, at least she thought it had been days since she last saw Talos at Logos. In all honesty, Phoebe couldn’t quite recall when she'd seen him last. His absence was starting to be noticed and the harpy was starting to get worried. The fact that maybe he wasn’t up to being around people never crossing her mind. All she knew was that the last time he was absence was when he was in a camp and although she knew he was physically fine, she still couldn't shake the feeling that she needed to look for him. Pulling her jacket on and motioning to Sasha that she was leaving, she drove to Alex and Talos’ home. Walking up to the door, she let her fist fall against the wooden material in rapid succession having sensed him inside. “Talos, open up! I know you’re in there.”
Alex couldn’t help but smirk at her words. Leave it to his sister to find sarcasm in what happened. That was one of the things he loved the most about her. She could find light in any darkness — in her own unique way. “Just a little,” Alex added, the smirk turning to a full fledged smile as he turned to head back to the living room. “Though from the shit I’ve gotten since we’ve been back, you’d think half the town was lining up to skin me alive.” Come to think of it, they might very well have been. He’d had other things to worry about. “How are you?” the Satyr asked, genuinely concerned about her. It’d had been too long since they’d spoken on things other than the superficial.
Phoebe’s brows furrowed at his words and she narrowed her eyes. “By shit you mean the cops and flight risk crap, right? Because no one better be giving you crap for the weekend.” They had all known what they’d signed up for, blaming anyone other than Bishop was pathetic and she wasn’t going to stand for it. “I’m fine. Faring much better than others,” she shrugged. No one she’d really cared about had been a casualty other than Noah. Alex on the other hand had been through hell and back before, during and even after the whole thing. “How are you holding up? Really holding up, not the bullshit response everyone gives.”
He took another swig off his glass as she re-positioned herself on the bar. He then smiled small as she asked what he did. “I am an architect” he said plainly. Then he leaned in an met her gaze. Lowering his tone to match hers he lied, “no I didn’t hear about Atlanta. I’m here by chance.” The lie was easy enough, because it was a half-truth. The truth was he had heard about Atlanta, and upon deciding to move here, he put in for a transfer to his firms office here. To him it was just easier to lie about the situation; if not to fool other Mythics, then the government that had been poking around before the raid on the camp.
He straightened up and listened to her speak some more, nursing his drink before finishing it off. “Cub’s name is Colin” he said when she asked, then signaled the bartender for another round for the both of them. “If you don’t mind my asking Pheobe” he said as he turned back to face her, “if this town’s taken so much from you, why are you still here?” The notion of leaving a place came easy for him. He had been doing it so long. He never stuck around a place too long, especially when things turned sour.
Giving him a skeptical look as she shrugged not pushing the subject. Things were too fresh and she couldn’t be bothered with prying, it didn’t matter anyway. “Architect. Ooh,” she commented with a small smirk. Nodding when he spoke his name, she hummed a bit. “Colin, huh. Think I might just stick with calling you Cub.” She finished off her drink before adding, “Whether you like it or not.”
Phoebe sighed when she noticed that the damn news story was playing on the bar’s televisions; she had gotten used to seeing her brother’s little speech, even chuckling at his admission about Bishop when she’d first heard it. When he spoke, she turned to look at him and simply replied, pointing to the TV, “I’ve got someone here I’m not ready to leave just yet.” As the drinks were placed in front of them, the Harpy pointed to the TV, “Alex, my brother.”
It had been much more difficult to go back to work than she had initially anticipated. Yes, she had known that it would be hard to be in the shop knowing that Bailey would never be in there with her again, but it was more than that. She couldn’t concentrate. She kept finding herself staring off into space lost in her thoughts. Very little work was actually accomplished and without anyone to help her she felt buried in tasks that seemed impossible to complete. By the end of the day she couldn’t wait to get out of there. She wasn’t ready to go home either so she once more headed to the familiar pub, but this time she actually made it. When she entered it was as though the air had changed inside. It just wasn’t the same without Colin. She took a seat at the bar and ordered the same thing she had the first day they met. Only this time there was no shamrock in the shot and it just didn’t taste as sweet. She hadn’t noticed there was someone next to her and when she went to readjust herself on the stool she kicked them. “Oh! I’m so sorry. I didn’t know there was anyone there.”
Phoebe had already snapped at the reporters milling around Logos looking to interview the staff on how it was to work for ‘the leader of the Mythics’. So Limerick was her usual go to place to unwind until she felt the Leshy walk in and take a seat next to her. The fact that she hadn’t jumped up and run off meant she was too wrapped up in whatever was filling her small brain to sense her. To be honest, she half expected her stone savior with her at all times just incase she bumped into Phoebe at random. Feeling her kick her she snapped her head towards her with a narrowed eyes. “Of course you didn’t. You probably would have walked right back out if you had."
As soon as his talk with Talos was over, Alex knew the next person he needed to speak to…his sister. They’d gone far too long with letting bad blood between them simmer. He needed to make things right with her; he couldn’t afford to lose her too. Picking up his phone, the Satyr his speed dial number 1 and waited for the Harpy to pick up. “Hey,” he said when she’d answered. “I need to talk to you. Can you come over? The kids are at Amara’s, so it’ll just be the two of us. I…I think it’s time we talked.”
Slamming the car door shut, she briskly walked to the front of his lake house. She hadn't given much thought to what had been said between them, to be honest she didn't even remember it anymore. Trying the knob without knockin, he'd probably already felt her presence, she let herself in. Standing in front of him Phoebe looked at her brother, inspecting him for any visible, physical wounds. "Looking rough, got into some fistycuffs this week or what?" She said sarcastically, hoping to lighten him up a bit. Afterall, he couldn't have just been chilling around all week not worrying about what the weekend had caused.
