Just a little bit about me. I am still in school. In my free time, I enjoy rock climbing, hiking, swimming, the beach, and pretty much anything outdoors. Currently, my favourtie TV shows are MacGyver (2016, but I also like the old one) and Leverage (I prefer the original, but I still like Redemption). My current interests are DB Cooper, Penguins, Airplanes (both civilian and military), and space/space travel. 

I have Autism and ADHD. Due to this, I struggle with communication and things like tone. If I come off as rude, it was likely unintentional. Assume the benefit of the doubt please, and if there is confussion, please use simpler language.

Neurodivergent people are never undiagnosed. We are misdiagnosed. Our symptoms don't go unnoticed, and people will always attribute them to some sort of cause. They'll just attribute them to personality and blame the individual for their symptoms.

For example. My autism is not undiagnosed, it's been misdiagnosed as "too sensitive," "awkward," "rude," "obsessive," and "too intense." My brother's adhd wasn't undiagnosed, it was misdiagnosed as "lazy," "impulsive," "annoying," and "can't seem to get any work done."

Growing up without a diagnosis is growing up believing that you are to blame for your differentness. Your symptoms are a personality flaw. You are diagnosed by everyone around you as "weird."

I’m making my best friend watch through Leverage with me and jfc I forgot just how much I love this show. I’m sorry barring how lovable the characters are and how cathartic it is to watch them ruin rich people’s lives every episode and it being the best example of the found family trope I’ve ever seen it’s just.

This show is so motherfucking funny.

Like in the Missing Heir Job the mark asks what Parker was doing in the other room and Nate just straight out his ass goes “ummmm stealing! she has a meth problem!” and Parker deadpanning harder than any human has ever deadpanned before goes “I do. I love meth.”

Note that this is after Nate conspicuously keeps trying to loudly work the word “safe” into his convo with the mark to get Parker to stop robbing the guy and come pretend to be the long lost heir of the dude whose inheritance they’re trying to get in the right hands– which the mark buys to such a degree that he immediately tries to have Parker killed.

Nothing is funnier to me than when this group of savant geniuses fall apart in the middle of a con and have to bullshit their way out. Leverage Inc has one brain cell and Sophie has it 95% of the time.

I do love how the competence porn in this show is very much NOT “look at these five experts in their fields doing everything they do to perfection”. It is very much, “hey these guys fuck up all the time but they have the experience and know how to get out of SituationsTM and this is why they are the best at what they do”.

The other, also delicious, flavor of competence porn turned comedy with these guys is that “they’re TOO good at what they do and thus create their own problems.”

For example, being so convincing the guy tries to have Parker killed, as you said above, or a fake ID being so convincing it gets pulled for jury duty, etc.

I refer, of course, to the time Buzz Aldrin (age 72 at the time) cold-cocked a moon landing conspiracy theorist straight in his smug face after being accused of being a coward, liar, and thief.

Yes, someone was indeed dumb enough to tell a man so unafraid of death that he was willing to go into the void on a fragile explosive rocket, a coward.

Said dumbass was filming this confrontation as some sort of proof of moon fraud, but has instead captured this glorious moment of near-cosmic justice for us to loop for all time.

Aldrin was not charged with any crime. He should have been given another medal for public service.

thinking once again about how in The Inside Job Eliot and Hardison and Nate all know what a steranko is but Sophie doesnt and like. it makes sense based on their characters for Nate and Hardison to know what it is. and it makes sense that Sophie doesnt ("if I'm doing my job right, the mark just turns it off") but like. Eliot's muscle. he's got no experience in cracking security systems. he's got to know the difference between "door that'll set off an alarm" and "door that won't" but that's about it. his "how can you not know what a steranko is" is less about the demands of Sophie's job and more about how she could be around Parker and Hardison for so long and still not know. he has yet to realize that their ability to ramble on about nerd shit and still be charming enough to hold anyone's attention is really an ability that only extends over him

leverage is so fucking funny. man manages to find the most mentally ill and neurodivergent group of thieves on the market + an even more mentally ill guy whose literal job description was trying to chase all of them, and forces them into a found family speed-run by trying to blow them all up. they lowkey stage a full fucking country wide coup and are like eh 🤷 just another wednesday. this might be a fun place to vacation tho i guess. sophie shows up to her own funeral twice. they're so good at convincing people of their shit that they make a guy's body start reacting to an illness he doesn't have because it isn't real. go completely out on a limb and basically hand this one guy a new password for his computer so they can get into it and he goes with it. parker and hardison have straight up just "fake it 'till you make it"d into the fbi without even attempting to cover their tracks beyond just These Two Guys. half their clients never asked to be their clients and don't know they're their clients, and the other half are random people who find them who fuckin knows how, meanwhile no government agency can track them down without selling their soul to sterling. they make a point to have a dramatic scene w a Big Bad Shadowy Government Guy who doesn't actually get caught or brought to justice or anything telling them he's going to hunt them all down, and in any other show this would probably earn at least a minor arc later on but he literally never shows up again. an entire season finale hinged on a cake and a bunch of clams. they accidentally made eliot a celebrity not once, not twice, but three times. parker blew up her foster parents' house when she was like. nine. and it's hardly a footnote. hardison is just casually an artistic prodigy but it's only ever brought up for the most background of background gags. eliot's biggest beef with parker and hardison for like two and a half seasons is that they won't stop making weird food with lasers and refuse to realize they can't make a decent beer to save their lives. sophie's immediate response to being shot is to call her shooter a wanker. there's a character who has literally killed a man with a mop and they had the audacity to only put her in one episode.

Also, it is an absolutely fantastic Sophie episode.

i barely even remember Sophie in this episode because i fixate so hard on Parker/Eliot. This is why I Iove ensemble casts so much, there’s so many different dynamics to look at and two people might focus on completely different aspects but both will get a full story out of it. AND then I get to hear somebody say it’s a fantastic Sophie episode and now I know next time I see it I’ll be watching for that and I’ll get a whole new angle out of it. THIS is why I can watch this shit on repeat for a decade and it never gets old. Well, I mean. That and the autism.
