OH I LOVE THIS ASK because it accidentally opens a whole emotional trapdoor under Branch’s bunker. So yes, let’s go full theory mode.

🌱 Branch’s Bunker Wasn’t Just a Bunker

It was a memory. And probably already there.

First of all, Branch did not just grab a shovel one day and go full DIY mole-man. Trolls are small, the soil is dense, and digging a structurally sound underground bunker alone is… not realistic.

Which means one thing:

👉 The base of the bunker almost certainly pre-existed.

Now let’s talk about what that base was.

🕳️ The Tunnels: Not New, Not Forgotten

Pop Trolls didn’t start digging tunnels after everyone got eaten. They already had Root systems under the trees. Those tunnels are everywhere. They just stopped being talked about.

And Branch? Branch remembered.

🌿 So What Did Branch Actually Do?

He didn’t create the bunker. He claimed a space that already existed.

Think about it:

The bunker is connected to the tree roots

It’s hidden, reinforced, layered, like something that evolved over time

It feels less like 'I built this' and more like 'I moved into this and made it better.'

Which screams: “This place already felt safe to me.”

Because it reminded him of somewhere he’d already survived.

🧠 Trauma Architecture (Yes, That’s a Thing Now)

Branch’s brain associates safety with:

Underground

Enclosed

Quiet

Hidden

Routes that lead away

So, of course, he gravitates toward tunnels. Not because he wants to hide forever, but because his body remembers that tunnels once meant survival. The bunker isn’t paranoia. It’s muscle memory.

👀 Did the Village Notice?

Oh. Absolutely.

But here’s the thing: The village also remembers the tunnels. They remember running, hiding, and panic. So when Branch builds downward instead of outward, no one says: “Hey, that’s weird.”

They say nothing. Because saying something would mean admitting they remember too. And that’s uncomfortable.

🐾 Animal Tunnel Theory?

Could part of it have been dug by animals or natural root erosion?

Yes. And Branch reinforcing that is even more telling.

Because it means:

He didn’t need perfection

He needed something that already existed

Something already hollowed out

Something already forgotten

🧨Conclusion

Branch didn’t build a bunker because he’s afraid of the future. He built it because the ground already remembered the past, and he trusted that memory more than the village’s forced joy.

The bunker isn’t him being dramatic. It’s him saying: “You all pretend this never happened. I remember where we hid. And I’m not letting go of that.”

And honestly? That’s not cowardice. That’s survival with a floor plan. 🌱🕳️
