NaNoWriMo Day 4
Already overthinking. Going to try and reset for tomorrow. Might pivot to some other writing exercises.
I could probably write 50k of D&D prep and session notes but that feels like cheating 😅

NaNoWriMo Day 2
...I got distracted by Spiritfarer and I'm already needing to play catch up.
GOAL: Writing sprints tomorrow to get to 5k.
NaNoWriMo Day 1
I'm using Tumblr to document my progress this year, as well a connect with any other writers to help keep me accountable! My pen name on NNWM is phoenixsnaps - feel free to add me as a buddy!
Current word count: 1211
Current plan: fantasy/adventure. Novelising some of the D&D adventures for one of my regular games.
Goal: Hit 50k words, keep the momentum, get back into the writing swing. Once upon a time I used to spit out thousands of words without thinking; past corporate career burnout and other adulting factors have hit that area of my brain very hard so I'm looking to reclaim it.
Stretch goal: 50k with a reasonable conclusion to the story. I've completed NNWM before (a long time ago) but it was always 50k of much bigger tales that remain incomplete.
Pros:
A large range of characters and plot points already exist to draw from.
It's all homebrew so I don't need to worry about actual D&D / Forgotten Realms lore.
I'm the Party Notetaker so I have a huge pile of notes and context to build on.
We're currently on hiatus on this campaign but due to pick it up again 2024 so it'll be a good creative refresher for these characters.
We're level 11 so some big arcs have already concluded to write about.
Overall, shouldn't need too much planning or research to keep creative momentum going for the NNWM exercise.
Cons:
It's an active campaign and there's some big unknowns in campaign lore that I only have theories on, so I'll need to find a point where I'm comfortable moving away from "party canon" so I don't muddy the current stories.
There may be too many characters.
And too many arcs.
I'm worrying about the audience of the story already when I should be focusing on the writing itself.
I'm liable to get distracted by many things.
