BETTER LATE THAN NEVER
The process of trying to create new and interesting movies, almost everyday lately, has me thinking that the process is too dissimilar to my street photography process.
When shooting the street i try to go out and photograph whatever interests me while trying to encapsulate a sense of raw authenticity, one of the reasons i shoot a lot of film. After shooting, i then print the contact sheets and try and then the concept and project generation begins.
With my video making process I essentially mimic this process, I film point of my day that i believe could have some relevance and at the very least make some interesting cutaway and then i look at my footage, listen to the dialogue, find some music on Soundcloud and then cut a movie together.
Yet always keeping authenticity at the centre of my work, between: the ‘boring’ events of a piece of fiction or the 'boring’ events of everyday life, i choose the everyday, as even the most mundane occurrences will always have more depth, especially the ones involving human interaction. I quote Henry David Thoreau - “Rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth”.
Look
"Success is simply a matter of luck. Ask any failure." - Earl Wilson
I don't want to condone luck, nor say that I necessarily believe in it, yet this photograph was not all together planned, like many I take. What I do plan, is my eye, my mindset and my equipment and from there on I am open to the world around me.
Great photography, is like the concept of luck. Sitting around looking at 'that guys work' or thinking 'I could take that, kind of image' isn't going to make me a great photographer.
If I'm going to be in the right place at the right time, I have to make my own luck. The preparation of my artistry and simplicity of carrying a camera with me everywhere is how ready myself for the next opportunity, the next moment to capture.
I do not want to be the one commenting on the work of others and proclaiming it's luckiness, as a jealous man would do, as wasting my time on jealousy is similarly a pointless thought process, as sometimes I am ahead, sometimes I'm behind, the race is long, but in the end it's only with myself. All that I can really do to differentiate and better myself than the next guy is to be harder working than him.
I did not plan this photograph entirely, but it was not luck.
NEW KICKS
I purchased these shoes recently when i was away from home and need a new pair instantly. So on that day, as the kicks on my feet were falling apart i wanted to try and find some converse, not just any but the leather or those new rubber converse. As they can still be pulled off in smartish attire i wanted something that was almost all rounder, that i could use in almost any situation. All i could find on the day was a the regular converse yet they had my size ad were in all black and with 4 minutes before the shop close i bought them. After remembering something i had read or heard about the use of beeswax with canvas, I decided to purchase some bars of it online, plus it was only for around 2-3 quid.
What I heard was that rubbing it in and letting it melt into the fabric, it would waterproof them.
So i gave it a try,
and here are the results.
P.S. Not mentioned or really hinted at in this video it the fact that I trying new things in my life, bypassing fear, new thing that will help me progress and keep moving. As well as purchasing these new shoes (kicks)
Surround yourself with creative people.
Better late than never, I have began to appreciate the real advantages of university.
Grades, Credit, Punctuality, Community
Community is what matters.
Also in many ways applies to life and the place that you decide to plant yourself.
The best way to learn a language is to I to a country and emerge yourself in that language, but most important the people that speak that language.
Think of creativity as a language, if you've got the spark, the talent but mainly the desire to create, the foremost element on the path to creativity is to surround yourself with like minded individuals.
Not only will it motivate and inspire your personal practice but together you could create the unimaginable.
“You are who you associate with. Look around at your five closest friends and that’s who you are. If you don’t want to be that person, you know what you gotta do.” - Will Smith

Eventful day Today I helped out a bunch of fine artists get footage and pictures of this chair they created, (not designed) in the name of art. In which it floats on water. With the handful of footage me and my friend managed to capture I am going to edit together a video showcasing their work in the most creative way I can, while also getting it done fast. But I realised that I loves having my camera shooting video, capturing footage, noticing every second of life other than the little moments I normally try and capture on photography. I might have to look into film making.
Good weekend
The last few days have been sun and fun filled. But I realised that I want to create more. Keep making content and keep motivated. As much as I like to relax or go for a few drinks, I love the feeling of creating something new. Ending the day with an input in the world that isn’t driven by monetary gain.
I wanna crate more meaningful work and much more of it, but essentially leave the world a better place then when I came to it.
I wanna add to it.
I wanna be remembered.
