I took this photo of Coney Island's famous Stillwell Ave in the summer of 2016 on a quest to relive some of my fondest childhood memories there with family and at the time I would never have guessed in a million years that it would be recreated in oil on canvas by an awesome palette knife painter in @emiliefantuz I'm absolutely thrilled with the completed work and honored that she chose my photograph as a reference for her first oil painting of a NY cityscape! On top of all that it took @emiliefantuz the entire month of July (my birthday month) to complete this amazing oil painting. I think most people have heard the phrase “A man’s home is his castle”, which brings to mind a funny and entertaining Australian film I watched years ago appropriately named “The Castle”, which is about a proud family man who refuses to submit to Eminent Domain in order for an airport to be built on his land.  As it turns out my second home in the Bahamas that my father has been building for the last 27 years and counting resembles a castle or a fort albeit with a lot more color and artistry than your typical old drafty English castle might have. The Dolphin House Museum is built without the use of machinery and uses concrete, steel, conch shells, stone, tile, beach glass and all manner of things found washed up on the beach nearby or donated from visitors in its construction.  It is a true labor of love.

While photographing these domestic animals I observed them in a very quiet and peaceful state and to my surprise, they quickly became aware of my presence despite my stealthy attempts to get closer to them. One by one, two at a time, groups of three and four they curiously approached the barb wire fence from the depths of their pasture to observe me. Then I thought to myself these animals appear in this moment to lead simpler lives out on this green Louisiana grassland. Yet I wouldn't trade my human life for theirs with all of its complexity. Do they feel the same about their lives, would they trade for a life as a human?
