Before I was met with this weeks challenge, Iβd read a poetry book that somehow connected with me based on my style of photography. It seemed as if the poems were describing part of what I was thinking when Iβd be shooting landscape images. Who knew itβd lead me not in the direction I thought, but to make a moody still life image.
So here it is - my photograph inspired by the poem SundayΒ by John Donlan. (This may be past the point, but I re-read this poem on a Sunday when I chose it.)
A few lines from the end of the poem go like this:
β¦ Healing, you leak light like an eggshell pin-pricked: you glow, you hum like a man well mothered and well fathered.

The βtangenzialeβ of Milan is a ring of by-pass highways built around the city since the mid-β60s, with the aim of easing traffic congestion.
On a highway, youβre not supposed to stop, unless it is an emergency. Getting out of your car, not out of necessity, but just for the sake of looking around, is therefore a way of saying βstop the world, I wanna get offβ. You leave your daily world, where time is never enough and everybody is always in a hurry, and find yourself in a world that existed long before humans, that flows so slowly that it almost looks still, and that we are less and less used to considering.
This unusual dimension β all the more surprising because discovered in the most unlikely of places β brings back the childlike joy of exploring, and awakens our senses. And we see as if for the first time a landscape that, from the highway, looks almost unreal, because we are closed inside a car, and we canβt feel a thing, and we see it always from the same perspective. But then, when you walk on the grass just a few metres off the guard-rail, you canβt but wonder how alive that grass is, and how much more real than everything in your carβ¦

Botanical | Samuel Zeller
βBotanicalβ is a modern photographic reinterpretation of the classical botanical illustrations produced between the 18th century and the beginning of the 20th century. Reality is refracted by the greenhouseβs ground glass and reminds me of the paper used in watercolour paintings. The colors are subtle and sophisticated, they mirror the tones found in these kind of illustrations.
The whole idea was to reproduce preserved nature in the style of botanical illustrations.
