☸ phuture collective issue two. ➚
We had the opportunity to ask skerp a phew questions which we'll be asking all of this issue's roster as well. Get to know us & check it out below <3 .
How would you describe your sound?
☸ I would describe my sound as janky, skerpy.... I always try to create the weirdest atmosphere I can, but with a groove anybody can get down to. I like to take sounds that are "unconventional" out of context and turn them into something convincing ☸
Can you give us some background on your musical career?
☸ Initially it was guys like UZ and Baauer that got me into producing, but lately it's really been people like Mr. Carmack, Sam Gellaitry---people pushing the boundaries of the genre ☸
Can you recall a specific memory you have that captures your musical passion?
☸ I remember going to a show at U Street music hall in DC and seeing so many people grooving on the same level, all brought together by a DJ, and I remember thinking "wow, I've never heard music hit that hard and have such a unifying effect" ☸
What projects would you like to take on next, and why?
☸ I've never played live, so DJ'ing would be the next project I'd really like to take on ☸
If music were a fruit salad, what combination of "fruit" would your "salad" have?
☸ If my music were a fruit salad, I'd say it's a mix of wonky percussion, janky bass, and offbeat vocal samples ☸
If you could invent a genre, what would you call it and how would you define it?
☸ As far as a genre, I'd call it derpstep---beats that don't have a conventional "center" of pitch, but rather having a melodic shape without a typical "melody" ☸
If you were a music director for an action film, what track would you choose to introduce a fight scene?
☸ Fight scene music---either "champion" or "hustler" maybe even "I see you" ☸
In one sentence, explain what music is to someone that has never heard it before.
☸ Music is the most efficient way to share a feeling, all through sound ☸
If you could pick one sentence/phrase to be associated with you in history, what would it be?
☸ Hmmm I don't know. I just love sharing experiences with people through music, whether it's showing someone a certain artist/song or making it myself ☸
As we make the finishing touches not all of this interview will stay on soundcloud, so peep all of it while you can!
