Consider this: Taking care of yourself is like cleaning up your room; it is not enough to clean your room once. Eventually, dust will sit on your furniture again, your floor will be dirty, clothes will pile up in one corner and other things might pile up in the other corner. If you neglect your room because you are too busy, it will get messier and you will not feel comfortable. After a while you will come to a point where you need to tidy again, because the sight is just too unbearable and you just feel too uncomfortable. But if you clean your room every week and take some time out of the day to organise and put away your things, your room will always feel nice and you will always feel comfortable. Now, your room equals your mental health; if you neglect it too long, you will feel drained and uncomfortable at one point. You will be pushed to take care of yourself, to recharge your batteries, in order to function again. But if you keep neglecting yourself, you will never feel a 100% okay. So, what you need to do is take time every week for self-care. In order to avoid a mental breakdown, it is necessary to check in with yourself every week. Do not let your emotions pile up to the point where you just do not feel okay anymore. Take care of yourself, my love, for you deserve it so much.

I’m terrible at relaxing, but I’m trying to practice it lately. Taking a step back and not being constantly proactive makes my anxiety freak out. But just because my mind is threatened by my lack of action doesn’t mean I can get away with not taking breaks. It’s healthy to disconnect from everything and recharge for a good while.
