'listen...' by John Williams
A new score from the greatest composer of my lifetime. I am a child again, bathed in the cool static glow of a television beaming images of an extra-terrestrial saying goodbye to his only friend. The past dwells, fades out. The present reemerges with a slow dissolve. The soundtrack, somehow, remains the same. Featured on the original motion picture soundtrack to Disclosure Day (2026)
Note the coda which is reminiscent of his mentor Bernstein's "Somewhere", used at the end of West Side Story. Listen to the moment of harmonic uncertainty, the slight atonal hesitation at 3:36. Bernstein used this extensively to convey the idea that the utopian ideal remains unresolved and unstable, almost there but not-quite, fleeting yet within reach. Wiiliams, an eternal optimist perhaps, resolves the harmony then reinforces it, cares for it, until it becomes unquestionable.

Official Trailer to the new 4K restoration of Mary Harron's I Shot Andy Warhol (1996)
The scintillating feature debut of Mary Harron (American Psycho) and one of the most controversial independent films of the 1990s, I Shot Andy Warhol stars an electric Lili Taylor as Valerie Solanas, a militant feminist whose attempted murder of Andy Warhol brought instant fame to her radically anti-male SCUM Manifesto. Dropping out of grad school in the midsixties, the brilliant yet volatile Solanas survived in New York City as a destitute artist, sex worker, and panhandler, soon striking up a friendship with Warhol superstar Candy Darling that brought her briefly into the orbit of the world’s premier pop artist. With vivid, hallucinatory attention to historical detail, Harron captures the explosive cross-pollination of New York’s political and artistic countercultures as well as the creativity, snobbery, and decadence at the heart of the legendary Factory.

'Brutalist' by Kim Petras
"First, I have to take you back to 12-year-old me in a little town in Germany. Pretty much every weekend, my dad used to take me on trips to get my transition going. We would go on road trips basically to every major (and not major)city in Germany lol. Since my dad is an architect, he used to always take pride in showing me buildings that were either architecturally significant or just buildings he liked. There was one building in particular which was a brutalist post office that we both agreed was really good. Next time we went to that same city, a few years later, the building had been knocked down and there were plans for a pretty run-of-the-mill apartment building that was gonna get built in the spot. My dad and I both agreed they ruined something perfect and beautiful for something very agreeable. We both felt like this had ruined the city, while people who live in that new apartment building probably think it’s the best thing. One thing that has always circled around me since I was a child is this opinion that transition is ruining something perfect and natural and sacred… and to be honest, I still struggle with this every now and then. It really gets to me, no matter how much I work on myself and my self-confidence and my self-worth lol. No matter how you flip it, me and my dad were also guilty of saying ‘they ruined it’ just like my grandma telling my dad that we are going on these drives to ruin my life (love you, grandma!). [...] Anyways, no matter how much people think they know better than you on what your life should be… if ruining it feels right… you gotta do it."
'Holy Escrow' by idialedyournumber
Emo with aggressively square wave/chiptune-y synths releases so much serotonin in my brain and Jessie Everill's solo project has it in spades. A welcome throwback to anyone who still remembers Zolof the Rock & Roll Destroyer

sorry but "My execution date's before my birthday / Plug your ears and fuck me backwards from yesterday" is the greatest lyric I've ever heard.

'Nico’s Groove (feat. Lady Skatina)' by Jason Piccioni
Piero Piccioni's son making '90s-neo-soul reimaginings of his father's work is a delicious concept. Piero Piccioni Revibed is streaming now and will release on Jason Piccioni's own London-based label Camille 3000
The album uniquely blends never-before-released original recordings from Piero’s archives with Jason’s modern production, arrangements and mix approach, creating a bridge between classic cinematic composition and contemporary electronic Jazz Funk.
