Don’t get too obsessed with trying to prove your opinion is the only right one by providing bible quotes. 

Keep in mind that bible quotes, especially short ones, can be taken out of context, can change their meaning if you look at them within the context of the entire chapter and even within the historical or cultural context. 

Keep in mind that the sentence you try to prove something with may be quite different, and possibly more accurate, in another translation. 

Remember that the bible has been used to justify horrible things historically and still is used to justify them by some horrible people. 

Keep in mind that even “bible experts” disagree on how some things should be interpreted. 

Keep in mind that a statement is not suddenly holy just because someone adds “The bible says so”. 

Remember that the bible, if we take every single word literal, would contradict itself frequently. 

Keep in mind that the bible is full of metaphors and figurative speech.  

Am I saying “don’t read the bible” or “the bible has no meaning at all”? Certainly not. Read the bible - but don’t just read it. Use the ability to think that God gave you.
