In Rome, this flower was called columbine, because of the similarity of the petals with pigeons, and in different countries it acquired different names: elf shoes, grandmother's cap and many more.

Its meanings are contradictory: in antiquity it was considered the flower of courtesans, fertility and carnal love, and already in the Middle Ages it represented the holy spirit. I would like to know why did this happen
