GOMAD: Gain weight easily with a gallon of milk a day!
This is not a diet that everyone can stomach, but if you are an ectomorph or someone who just struggles to gain weight, then consider the GOMAD diet. Basically, just drink a gallon of milk everyday and then continue eating like you normally do. At first, it will be difficult, but after a while you will get used to it and see some powerful strength gains. Some guys will just drink a half gallon of milk a day; it all depends on you and your goals. A gallon of milk a day is a lot of milk, most people can't do this kind of thing. That's a lot of protein, carbs and fats, but all at a good ratio. The perfect drink for building muscle is milk, and after you drink a gallon of it in a day you will definitely get all the required nutrients to build muscle. This is the diet that helped a lot of ectomorphs put on muscle mass, along with a good strength training routine like Starting Strength or the one we posted for you. If you drink a gallon of milk a day for an entire month you will gain at least 10 pounds, especially if you are eating right and are young. However, if you are above the age of 35 you might want to get a natural testosterone booster, something like pine pollen or DAA. Having low testosterone levels will make it difficult to gain weight, or at least gain muscle weight. If you have low testosterone then a gallon of milk a day might just make you fat, so make sure you work out hard, eat clean and supplement when needed. BCAA's are also great to take if you have the money to spend on supplements. Don't expect much from them, but they definitely help with recovery and keeping your energy levels high throughout workouts. Creatine would also be great to add in the mix, if you are a true ectomorph you will need to go all out in order to put on muscle mass. Aside from diet, the most important part of gaining weight will be to lift heavier weights each week, keep making progress, even if its micro-loading and only lifting 2 and a half to 5 pounds more.
