WHYY IS HOMOPHOBIC SMEAGOL IN MY INBOX
let us take a moment and grieve for all the lives lost. so many thousand people have been murdered by the zionist entity in the last fifteen months. palestinians in gaza have lost too much, from friends and family to their homes and livelihood.
this ceasefire is not an end to our solidarity with gaza. we will all be here waiting and praying for palestine to be wholly liberated from the occupation and watch her people be happy and free.
in the meantime, please keep donating to palestinian fundraisers. it is essential to support families planning on rebuilding.
alaa is a mother of two young children. her fundraiser has been verified. i request you to help her by sharing and donating to her gofundme.
please donate here
The ceasefire agreement was reached and joy is floating among the Palestinian people
The joy is indescribable here all over the Gaza Strip. This thing seems like a literal miracle.
Rafah crossing will be opened tomorrow, God willing. We need help, friends. Please donate.

thinking about when i was small, how my mom told me that pipe cleaners were just a tool until people started idly shaping things with them and it grew so popular that they were marketed as crafting materials. and that story about how the original frisbees were disposable pie plates that students flattened to throw. and how when i was a child i had a wooden mancala set with shiny, colorful stones, but on invention it was played with rocks and grooves dug into the dirt. and middle school, paper football and tic-tac-toe and mash and mad libs, games that just need pen and paper. and before that, games of pretend with pirates and princes and masked marauders. how at slumber parties after lights out, we used to whisper storytelling games, i say one sentence and you say the next. and shadow puppets. and the way all the kids in the neighborhood used to divide into teams and throw fallen pine cones at one another. and the floor is lava game, and the quiet game, and the games i play with my coworkers that are just words and retention. and "put a finger down" on the high school bus. and little girls clapping together, and how the first jump-rope was undoubtedly just a length of rope who knows how long ago, and how natural it is to play, how we seek play at every age and with any resources we have and with whatever time we can squeeze it into in a day. i'm not an anthropologist or a psychologist but i think after food and shelter and water and air what comes next is games and stories and laughter. i think that there is nothing -- not sex or fighting or forming unlikely bonds with animals -- there is nothing more human than to play.
Can't make this shit up but Israel really just detonated walkie talkies across Lebanon today killing 9 so far and injuring 300. This comes only a day after Israel had detonated pager devices simultaneously across multiple areas in Lebanon, injuring almost 3,000 and killing 8.
This is some cartoon villain shit and the only reason Israel was able to execute an almost replica of the same attack 24 hours prior is exactly because not a single international body had condemned Israel for its terrorist attack, let alone held it accountable.
In the same timeframe, Israel had also bombed countless areas in Gaza including a school filled with displaced Palestinians, killing 8 mostly women and children, while also committing two massacres against families, killing 20 and injuring over 50.
Israel is a terrorist state.

2,300-Year-Old Plush Bird from the Altai Mountains of Siberia (c.400-300 BCE): crafted with a felt body and reindeer-fur stuffing, all of which remains intact
This artifact was sealed within the frozen barrows of Pazyryk, Siberia, for more than two millennia, where a unique microclimate enabled it to be preserved. The permafrost ice lense formation that runs below the barrows provided an insulating layer, preventing the soil from heating during the summer and allowing it to quickly freeze during the winter; these conditions produced a separate microclimate within the stone walls of the barrows themselves, thereby aiding in the preservation of the artifacts inside.
This is just one of the many well-preserved artifacts that have been found at Pazyryk. These artifacts are attributed to the Scythian/Altaic cultures.
Currently housed at the Hermitage Museum.

This is exactly what I feel too. There's no way there weren't stuffed animal toys before steiff, maybe in a commercial level but people would've been making soft representations of animals for as long as humans have been making fabric, I bet!
Finally more people talking about how Steiff didn't invent stuffed animals. This has been a pet peeve of my for ages. I wrote a little thing about this a while back. The toy in question claimed as Steiff's first, the little pincushion elephant, was made using a preexisting pattern even.
TLDR: there's nothing that would inherently have prevented even neanderthals from making soft toys and soft sculpture. They were already making cord and weaving fabric. Early man was making detailed paintings and ornate carvings. The only difference between that and stuffed animals is that textile toys and breaks down a whole lot faster than bone ivory rock.
