The Buddha hands his students six syllables and says: this is the whole path, folded small. *Hail to the jewel in the lotus.* — Kāraṇḍavyūha Sūtra, Chapter 4

A jewel inside a lotus. The lotus grows in mud — the mind, with all its noise and shame. The jewel is what was always there, untouched by the mud. The Buddha doesn't ask you to become someone new. He asks you to say six syllables until the noise quiets enough for you to notice what was already shining. Each syllable closes one door of suffering. If you've ever wanted a practice small enough to carry through an ordinary Tuesday, this is the one a billion mouths have carried before you. The jewel was already there. The mantra just helps you remember.
