A woman in NYC was asked about the clothing she was wearing and her answer was pretty great.
"I'm inspired by my spiritual self.” I envision what the version of myself that embodies the energy that I want to create and nurture and I see her kind of floating above me, close enough to reach. My style is a way to connect and rise into that version of me.
When the mind is full of worldly desires, it is their very nature to confuse the mind. Withdraw the mind from outer things and turn it inwards.
Anandamayi Ma
Jiddu Krishnamurti viewed the habitual mind as a mechanical trap that breeds conformity, dullness, and psychological suffering. He argued that routine thinking prevents true freedom and genuine perception.
Why Habit is a Prison
Mechanical Living: Human reactions, opinions, and thoughts become automatic routines, turning the brain into a repetitive machine.
False Security: The mind clings to familiar patterns, beliefs, and traditions because they offer safety, even if those same patterns cause pain.
Loss of Vitality: An occupied, habitual mind lacks freshness and space, wasting vital energy on constant chatter and old memories.
Breaking the Trap
Passive Awareness: Freedom from habit comes through choiceless awareness—simply observing the habit completely without judgment, fight, or trying to fix it.
Seeing the False: When you look at a mechanical habit and directly see that it is false and useless, the illusion drops instantly.
Continuous Learning: True intelligence means living without accumulated psychological conclusions, allowing the mind to learn anew in every moment.
Some day I’m going to eyeroll myself in to another dimension.
If you ever start taking things too seriously, just remember that we are talking monkeys on an organic spaceship flying through the universe.
“Love all God’s creation, both the whole and every grain of sand. Love every leaf, every ray of light. Love the animals, love the plants, love each separate thing. If thou love each thing thou wilt perceive the mystery of God in all; and when once thou perceive this, thou wilt thenceforward grow every day to a fuller understanding of it: until thou come at last to love the whole world with a love that will then be all-embracing and universal.”
Fyodor Dostoevsky, The Brothers Karamazov
Enlightenment isn’t an escape. It’s seeing, really seeing, what’s right in front of you. It’s staying. Even when it’s uncomfortable. Even when it’s brutally mundane. There’s holiness in every breath. In doing the small things with love. In the life you already have. excerpt from, 'The Forgotten Corners', by Jeff Foster
Our human body is a masterpiece of the cosmos, and when we treasure, respect, and cherish our body, we are treasuring, respecting, and cherishing our cosmic body. When we live in such a way that we take good care of our body, we are taking care of our ancestors and we are taking care of our cosmic body.
- Thich Nhat Hanh, in “The Art of Living".
