jane can remember having one hamburger before this, but she didn't get a say in what type; instead, she was simply given one. at the time, she had no complaints. she was a girl on the run, & any sort of food would've made her happy. however, now sitting in the small restaurant, she finds herself confused. her lips press into a thin line as she leans forward on the counter before momentarily shaking her head.

❛  what is the fuh-gouda-bout-it burger ? is it really different from a regular burger ? ❜  she asks out loud. although she hasn't seen an employee around, she knows the place isn't closed. she saw someone inside, sitting at the counter ( like she is now ), & her stomach guided her inside. but the burger of the day, along with the normal menu, doesn't make sense to her.

"   her mom would probably have her neck if she heard her say this,  and her father ?  well,  louise knows that he'd give the classic:  oh my god.  honestly,  they should name a burger after it at this point.  maybe she will !  louise will lean forward too,  braids swinging as she grins at the other girl.    " order it and i'll throw in a special dessert. " 

          will give the other girl a wink,  easy grin on her lips,  soft pop rock playing from their speakers.  the older she gets,  the more privileges she gets at the diner,  and she eats that up.   " it has gouda cheese,  a pun,  if you didn't catch that. "    and there's no judgement coming from louise,  not this time !  don't judge,  she doesn't mind this new girl knowing that louise belcher doesn't hate her guts right off the bat,  so.  a rarity !  her siblings should be seething with jealousy !   " you can handle spice, right? "

           currently ?   louise is looking up as far as her eyes can go back,  trying to see if she can see the texture of her hat.  it'd been 15 years since she got the thing,  though it had gotten smaller,  a little rattier,  a little more in tatters.  she's 19 now,  doubts the hat is going to last much longer but  -  but what's a girl to do?  nineteen years on this god forbidden earth,  and she has yet to let go of this silly little hat.  still,  she can't bring herself to do anything about it.  and if she's going to a taylor swift concert in the dead of summer  ...  she doesn't know if her hat could handle it,  honestly.    "so you're coming with me, right? need someone to guard the hat, and i don't trust tina and gene and mom as far as i could throw them."  granted,  she's pretty strong for her age and build,  but still.  everyone knew she would always go to her father for help first.

she has to admit, she likes a kid with spunk and who's not afraid of a little danger. around these parts, maybe both of them should be more wary than they actually are, but max has had an earful of annoying warnings from the guys. as if she couldn't handle herself. she's seen lucas jump three feet in the air over a spider. they'd be fine.

          head tilts up,  braided hair brown shifting underneath louise's warm hat.  the redhead is different,  she thinks;  way cooler than anyone she knows,  so she'll have to keep it cool if she wants her around more often.  besides,  louise had been way too bored lately;  the restaurant was slow,  her siblings had finally gotten hobbies,  but all her friends were busy with  family vacations  or whatever.  she could make her own fun   ( and trouble ),  it was fine !   except for the part where she was incredibly lonely.    "  we definitely need to grab souvenirs to sell,  so  ...  whoever wins gets the cash we get from selling.  "

          now,  louise belcher is a  naturally suspicious  person,  okay ?  this,  of course,  is due to the fact that she is an absolute  menace to society,  and she's got a lot of enemies,  okay ?  that's not to say that she's never prepared,  in matter of fact,  she's usually overprepared  -  mentally,  anyways.  the point is,  she'll be wary of people until they prove themselves otherwise !  and she's heard about him,  sure;  the girls her age were all gossiping about the  new boy in town.  seriously,  she doesn't get the hype,  but whatever makes them happy,  right ?    "  wait,  who's your buddy ?  "   if she perks up,  it's because she needs to interrogate them !  ask what they liked,  how they could improve,  would they advertise for them if she gave free fries or drinks to them ?  she's already planning her next business move,  when he reminds her that he's still there,  eyes focusing back in on him,  brows scrunching.  unexpected.  she's not sure what to think of it.    "  well,  who else is going to man the counter,  my useless brother ?  and tina freaks out just about everyone.  i'm the only one who does the work around here.  "    okay,  she's being a little mean,  but sue her.  she's never been known for taking it easy on her siblings,  and if she were nice now,  it'd just be weird !   besides,  everyone who knows louise belcher knows that louise is  dying  make this burger joint her own.   "  strawberry banana,  then.  ask for mango in it if they have it.  "

her little sister is terrifying, for sure. and tina knows when to stop talking if there's a real threat to fear. of course when it comes to louise, the bite is just as harsh as the bark. so, sure, tina pipes down, but there's still a knowing smile on her lips and a barely there 'mhm' as she continues walking back home. " you know, you're free to explain the context anytime, louise. i wouldn't laugh at you. " chestnut-hued gaze stares straight ahead, avoiding eye contact with her little sister. it's easier to be real with each other when you're not putting each other in the spotlight.

         it's the sweetest little thing,  actually.  and louise belcher knows for a fact that there's a cute lil' tabby kitten curled up on her bed,  under her covers,  and she still has to figure out how she's going to convince their parents to let them keep a kitten.  it'll probably help if she leads by saying she's been apartment searching  ...  right ?  make them think they want to keep her around,  yeah !  then they'll have to keep the lil' gal around !    "  before you say anything,  her name is belle,  and you can't convince me to put her back on the streets  -  !  "   she says finally,  swinging the door to her room open,  and  ...  of course belle is curious enough to pop her head out,  her lil' head poking out and meowing quietly at the two girl.  louise's lips are borderlining on trembling,  so.  there's that.    "  i couldn't just leave her out there,  it's raining ! at the mention of her childhood... sorta current but also on-and-off again crush, tina grumbles and drops down into the booth, pulling her knees up to her chest. " i don't even have enough time to get into that right now. " but, she will at some point in this conversation. right now, she's focused on dragging louise to her newest boyband fixation. " c'mon, it'll be fun, louise! we'll get a day off from the shop. dad and mom did say they want more quality time together. " which probably meant, quality time away from the restaurant... not alone working at the restaurant.
