Have you ever heard of anything like cogs adopting toons? Do you thing toon-cog integration might actually be possible in the future?
“I’d like to tout that toon-cog integration will be essential to progress and that said integration is possible – Because it is – But I always end up tripping over the shit in the background whenever I think about it.
One of the strongest cog-toon integrations I’ve seen has to be cog-adopted toons. Usually these are toons whose parents got… Taken. Some cogs try to right a wrong and take the kid rather than trying to return them to toon society, mainly out of a fear that they’ll get scrapped in defense, toons mistaking them for having shitty intentions.
You have these cogs, good people, respecting that their new child is a toon, making a point to not deprive them of their toonhood. Of course, a lot of these relationships are rocky, these are kids going through hard shit, trying to adapt to a new life.
A majority of the relationships settle down, but a large chunk of them end… Forcefully.
Most of the adopting cogs living on-grid get caught eventually, but cogs living off-grid, away from Cog Nation, aren’t immune. It’s an ugly injustice; many of the cogs caught are scrapped. And the kids, holy shit. Cog Nation has its own toon-cog “integration project.”
The shit I found poking around places I shouldn’t be. Found some documents. When the cogs take a toon child, they make a project out of raising them as a cog. They invalidate their toonhood. No play, no fun, just work. They’re overwhelmed and burnt out. Might as well be permagreened. Over time, most of them become ‘greyed toons.’ About 70% of them have adverse reactions to toon humor; they can’t be destroyed or physically hurt, but they EXPRESS distress. There isn’t a day where I don’t kick myself in the ass for not following up. I know this shit is happening and I just walked away. I could have given some toons an opportunity to heal.
The nagging, soul burning realization of the impacts of the risks you didn’t take.
Of course, I logically understand I can go back, but some part of me doesn’t want to move.
Selfishness? Overwhelmed?
Either way, I’m complicit through inaction.
I want to begin but I don’t know how to. What do I do after the toons are out? How would I get them back to toon society? How would toon society react to them? Would it be acceptable to house them with cogs I trust? I can’t house them because I couldn’t give them a halfway-safe life even if I had the resources.
I hate that this shit won’t end until Cog Nation is taken out.
I cannot stop this from happening until the system doing it is gone.”
