AHH thanks anon!! this is going to get long because I like to talk a lot, so be warned.
1: What age group are you and region? Southern regionĀ u17 (u18 on January 1st though!ā¦.wow Iām getting old all of a sudden)Ā
2: Who is your favorite dancer? Since I just answered this, Iāll leave a few dancers that I love that should have been part of that answer. Nic Gareiss, Peggy Cannon (talk about a throwback, but ugh sheās so good), Ā Sandun Verschoor,Ā
3: Whatās your favorite dance? HORNPIPE
4: Whatās your Feis look? Tbh, itās trying to look like I put in half the effort on my makeup that they other girls put into theirs. Iām very lazy and not particularly skilled at makeup⦠But to be more specific, my current feis look is my pixie cut and an insane amount of white tape on my shoes (as I always do).Ā
5: Do you like bling and lots of makeup or are you more traditional style? I like dressing up and solo dresses and all that stuff, but I do think weāve gone a tad too far, and I do really like the traditional look. So Iām a bit torn, but I definitely lean towards the trad side.
6: Whoās your Irish dancer crush? Yeah okay I admit, I have a few, but I donāt want to risk sounding like a stalker because the irish dance world is very small so I will skip this one
7: When and why did you start Irish Dance? Be warned, this answer is going to get long. So technically I started in kindergarten and danced through 3rd grade, but let me just say that I never really progressed past the advanced beginner level and in hindsight I definitely did not show any potential whatsoever. My mom tells me I was awesome, but Iāve seen the home videos, and believe me, I was not even good by beginner standards!!! But anyway, when I was 9 I moved far far away and I didnāt dance until I moved back to my hometown three years later (age 12). I was a bit (okay, extremely) chubby and my mom wanted me to get out of the house and exercise, so she made me go back to my old irish dance school. I was not thrilled about this to say the least. It meant being awkward in a room surrounded by mirrors and meeting new people. Not very enticing to say the least. But Iām so thankful my mom pushed me out the door like she did, because I became fast friends with basically everyone and I started to become obsessed with the whole dance thing. But things really took off for me about two months in to returning to dance when I discovered the vast amount of Irish music on itunes. Music was and most definitely still is the major reason I have kept up with Irish dance.
8: Who is your favorite musician? DO I HAVE TO PICK JUST ONE? (the answer better be no because Iām not picking just one.) My favorite feis musicians are probably the Feistunes guys or Sean OāBrien, but as Irish/Scottish/etc. music in general, I love Alasdair Fraser, Kevin Henderson, basically anyone off the Celtic Colours cdās, the band Goitse, Vasen, Haugaard and Hoirup (if you havenāt listened to trad music from Scandinavia then you really are missing out. Itās like Scottishā¦but also different at the same time and Iām in love), Colin Farrell, Socks in the Frying Pan, and of course, my very favorite boys, The High Kings.
9: What brand shoes do you wear? Everything is from fays at the moment, but I have loved my rutherfords a lot in the past as well
10: Celtic Star or Gavin? Iām going to be annoying and say neither
11: What would you describe your dancing style as? (Reel dancer/slip jig dancer) I am probably more of a reel dancer if anything
12: Full wig or bun wig? Is neither an appropriate answer? I donāt wear a wig anymore! But if I did have to choose, itād be bun all the way. I HATE big wigs on me with a burning passion and they gave me huge swollen bruises on the sides of my head. I can only hope that I will never wear one ever again!
13: What is your dream/goal for your ID career?Ā
My realistic dream goal? Get my TCRG and open a school.Ā
My pretty unrealistic dream goal? Learn Polish and open a school in Poland. Iād love to open a school in eastern europe and I love Poland, so why not? My dad would probably die of joy with the prospect of having a constant excuse to be there.Ā
My most unrealistic dream goal that has about a 5% chance of happening? I want to get my TCRG and pair up with a few other dancers (preferably of other Irish dance backgrounds such as festival style and sean nos) as well as a few musicians and make a school that offers Irish dance lessons of all types as well as having a music school. I want to train some top notch dancers and have a sick performance team, Iād want them all to be well rounded dancers and/or musicians, and Iād want to open this school in Williamsburg, VA.Ā
But as far as short term goals go, Iād like to just generally improve my dancing this year. No specific placements ā Iād just like people to look at me and be likeĀ āyeah thatās Annabelle and sheās good at Irish danceā rather than look at me and be likeĀ āhow did she ever get any of those placements/recalls this year, sheās not half as good as the othersā as I think a lot of people think about me, No one on tumblr has been like this, but I definitely know a handful of people (myself included lol) who feel this way. I donāt really know how to fix this except by practicing a lot, so weāll see if it works! Iād also like to work on cross training more, having better self/body image, and not being a ball of anxiety over dance. Iād like to really enjoy these last months before going to college. Thanks anon!!!Ā
Iām joining your schoolā¦.Poland or VAā¦Iām coming.
@planxty-paris YES JOIN ME!!!
I just got SO thrown off seeing Nic Gareissās name on my dash. Fun fact, heās also a lovely singer and bouzouki player (and canāt catch a sharpie to save his life).
The Irish dance world is such as small world sometimes!! I didnāt actually know who he was until a few weeks ago ā he dances during one of my favorite pieces in a recording by Alasdair Fraser and Natalie Haas that Iāve listened to for years, but Iād never actually seen videos of him dancing until recently. Dang heās good dancer. Iād kill to be half as good as him one day! @callmekeen
I can totally help you with the festival Irish dance stuff! Also if you ever want festival music give me a shout! :)
